Maria Hill’S Constant-tutional Violations
For a place that has Matt Murdock, Jennifer Walters, Franklin Nelson, Jeryn Hogarth, Bernadette Rosenthal, Kristen McDuffie, Blake Tower, Rosalind Sharpe, Isaiah Ross, Holden Holliway, Emerson Bale, Dennis Bukowski, Grace Powell, Matt Rocks, Connie Ferrari, Justin Baldwin, Jason Sloan – Okay, >>gasp pant<< let me catch my breath here – Ebenezer Wallaby, Maria Alvarez, Maxine Lavender, William Hao, Nelson Mandella, and even some guy named Robert Ingersol (no relation); I can’t understand why the Marvel Universe doesn’t have any lawyers in it.
Now, I know you may think all of those people – and several others, I didn’t mention for fear of really padding my word count – are lawyers. Marvel may even think they’re lawyers. With filming of Blanc/Biehn Productions' remake of Hidden in the Woods set to begin July 1st in and around Houston, Texas, all the major players are lining up, and handling effects will be Vincent Guastini's V.G.P. Effects & Design Studio.
Hidden in the Woods star Michael Biehn met Guastini when they briefly worked together on Sushi Girl (in which Hitw co-star Andy Mackenzie also appeared), and Biehn was so impressed with V.G.P.'s work, the producers asked Guastini to come on board and supervise with Evelyn Belmar and Vanessa Cartier. At Texas Frightmare Weekend 2012, I stumbled across a little movie called Jacob (review here), and it completely blew me away. For a completely independent picture made for extremely little money, it packed an emotional punch that few mainstream horror films can pull off.
Truth be told, I've paid to see movies in the theater that display less skill and power than Jacob, and that's a damn shame, but finally someone was wise enough to pick up this gem for distribution, and as of April 16th, Jacob is out on DVD and Blu-ray for your viewing pleasure courtesy of Kino Lorber's Horizon Movies.
Jacob had a return performance at this year's Texas Frightmare Weekend to celebrate its release, and I sat down with main man Larry Carrell to chat about writing, directing, and acting in the film.
Mr. Dark: Give us the background on yourself, and what you've done so far.

Hidden in the Woods is a powerful tale of urban violence and "closely faithful to the atmospheres of the original", in the words of actor/producer Michael Biehn. The film has been acquired to be handled internationally and launched in Cannes by Dimitri Stephanides of Wtf, the Paris-based sales company who also represents Michael Biehn's and Jennifer Blanc's previous film, The Victim.

The Legend Of Darkhorse County, written and directed by Shawn Welling, is set in the titular town where a serial killer/kidnapper is hunted by Sheriff McElroy, played by veteran actor Lee Majors and Jacob’s Larry Wade Carrell at different ages. “That was so cool for me,” Carrell [pictured below at right with Majors] tells Fango, “because I was the biggest The Six Million Dollar Man fan when I was young. I used to run around, going [mimics Steve Austin’s “bionic” sound effect]. There are these murders going on in Darkhorse County, and McElroy’s on the trail, trying to catch this guy. He’s not really aware of the supernatural force that’s out there, just that these kids keep going missing. As he gets closer to tracking him down, he gets in deeper than he thought he would with the supernatural element.”

While attending Texas Frightmare Weekend last month I had the pleasure of meeting Larry Wade Carrell, vice president of Odyssee Pictures and writer/director of the dark horror film Jacob, along with one of the films executive producers, Cynthia Ivans Lauer.
Here is a synopsis of the film…
Lonely and disturbed, Jacob Kell loved his little sister more than anything on Earth. When she is tragically murdered by their stepfather in a drunken rage, Jacob retaliates the only way he knows how… and all those who cross his path will know his brutal vengeance.
I was able to convince Larry to allow me to ask him a few questions about this very powerful and wonderfully executed film.
What inspired you to write and direct Jacob?
I would have to say the cast. Over the past couple of years I have been acting in numerous projects...
