- Mother of Mary Wells.
- The daughter of a Kingston jeweler and a landscape artist, Dorothy Henriques Wells early showed promise as an artist; after graduating from high school in Jamaica (where she majored in fine arts), the young artist attended Canada's Ontario College of Art in Toronto, before returning to her homeland. She was an educator, author and business owner, as well as a painter, whose work (primarily in water-colour) has been described as "expressive, often large and sensitive to light and space....She draws and paints only with her brush in a beautiful free flowing line." In a career of over a half century, she was prominent in her field, both as pioneer and as a innovator of fresh, contemporary ideas.
