At age 14, our General Counsel, Curtis Sobel played his first
professional gig as a Bass Trombonist in a brass quintet he had
assembled. The son of a concert pianist and brother of a professional
flutist, music was in his DNA. He continued to pursue his dreams of
orchestral work, collecting national renown for his work as a bass
trombonist. Sobel double majored in Music and Business, playing through
the end of college including a stint with the Albany Symphony
Orchestra. A tragic car accident cut short his music career in the
winter of 1982.
Sobel took the skill set honed from years in front of an audience and moved into the field of law, concentrating in litigation. Although juries were smaller than the typical audiences Sobel was used to performing in front of, he learned early on that groups of six or twelve as his juries were comprised offered their own distinct "performance issues."
After working in the big firm setting for several years, Sobel established his firm from a single room in Huntington, Long Island. From there, Curtis has grown his practice into a highly respected boutique litigation firm with offices on Long Island and in New York City. For more than two decades Sobel has been privileged to represent many of this country's fortune five hundred companies, litigating over ten thousand cases and taking over one hundred verdicts during his career.
In addition to his work as a corporate trial attorney, Sobel has held the position of general counsel for corporations based in New York. He has also been a frequent lecturer on topics ranging from corporate governance to risk management.
