Yael Leibel is an editor and filmmaker born in Genoa in 1980. She has lived and worked in various European cities, including London and Paris and graduated with a thesis on the language of documentary cinema. Since 2008 she lives and works in Rome.
Before and after the editing diploma at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia she worked in the audiovisual sector, ranging from documentary, fictional cinema, animation, television and video-art. Her animated short "The importance of speaking two languages "won the first prize of the Prix Europa 2011 section Languages through lenses. In 2015 she made the short animated movie "La viaggiatrice immobile". From 2016 to 2022 she worked in Rai (Italian National Television) editing entertainment, documentaries and ads. In 2019 and 2020 she edited the documentaries by Alessandro Bignami "Colpire al cuore" and "Torino 20venti", screened out of competition at the Torino Film festival and broadcasted on Rai Movie. In 2020 she wrote and directed with Matteo Passerini the documentary Normality. In 2021 she edited he documentary "Arabia Felix" by Robert Cahen. She recently took part as assistant to the project Sei Pezzi Facili by Paolo Sorrentino.
