Created by “Polite Society” writer and director Nida Manzoor, “We Are Lady Parts” premiered in the U.K. in 2018 and in the U.S. via Peacock in 2021. IndieWire’s Steve Greene wrote at the time that “Each member of the greater Lady Parts quintet could easily handle an episode on their own,” praising a show which is “at its best when it’s breaking free from restraints, too, tossing in a bunch of playful asides and visual diversions.”
“I wanted to go bolder, sillier, darker and deeper and that is exactly what we strived to do,” Manzoor said in a press release accompanying the Season 2 trailer.

The thriller series will follow Thora (Viola Prettejohn), a rebellious teenage clone who escapes from the boarding school where she and her fellow clones are kept hidden from society. Along with Prettejohn, the cast includes Tracey Ullman, Kelly Macdonald, Aiysha Hart, Spike Fearn, Shaniqua Okwok, Gary Beadle, Kwami Odoom, Susan Brown, Keira Chanse and Edward Holcroft.
This is the second screen adaptation of the book, as a movie starring Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield came out in 2010 from Searchlight Pictures. The film was written by Alex Garland, directed by Mark Romanek and produced by Andrew Macdonald Allon and Reich.

Saudi Arabia’s push to become a major production hub has taken another step forward.
Neom, the coastal region due to be home to a proposed 500 billion megacity, has announced the formal operation opening of its Neom Media Village and Bajdah Desert Studios, which together comprise Saudi Arabia’s largest sound stages and film production support facilities. Some 25 productions have already been supported there in the last 18 months.
Alongside the opening, Neom has formally announced its 40 percent-plus cash rebate production incentive scheme for feature films, TV (drama, reality, documentaries) and commercials, with producers able to secure a higher percentage based on their industry development contributions. Although Neom is set to operate as its own semi-autonomous jurisdiction, the 40 percent incentives scheme put it on the same level as that announced by the Saudi Film Commission last year.

Prominent Arab world broadcaster Mbc is ramping up film and TV production in Saudi Arabia, where a slew of high-end projects in the pipeline is set to join U.S. tentpoles like Anthony Mackie-starrer “Desert Warrior,” which is currently shooting.
Zeinab Abu Alsamh, who is general manager of Mbc Studios in Saudi, said she has roughly 20 projects — both TV and film — in various stages and is looking to greenlight at least some of them for production within the next 18 months.
Mbc is at the forefront of the current Saudi media industry boom, which is being accelerated by the growth in subscribers to its Shahid VIP streaming platform. The service recently reached the two million customers milestone.

As Saudi Arabia diversifies from an oil-based economy, the kingdom is pinning a significant portion of its hopes of becoming a major media industry hub on Neom, a futuristic megacity in-the-making.
It is where the $100 million seventh century actioner “Desert Warrior,” featuring an all-star international cast led by “Captain America” star Anthony Mackie, is currently shooting.
Situated along the kingdom’s Red Sea coast in Tabuk, in the northwest of the kingdom, Neom is a sprawling area roughly the size of Belgium that besides coral reefs and heritage sites, also comprises mountains and generally has a cooler temperature than most of the region.
Bankrolled by Saudi-owned Mbc Group, “Desert Warrior” — which stars Saudi-British actor Aiysha Hart (“Mogul Mowgli”) alongside Mackie and is being directed by Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) and produced by Jeremy Bolt (“Resident Evil”) — is the biggest Hollywood-style tentpole ever shot entirely in the Arab world.

Mega-budget epic Desert Warrior, starring Anthony Mackie and Aiysha Hart, has been a big talking point here in Jeddah this week as it nears wrapping production in Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk. The $150M 7th Century-set action title marks not only the biggest production to shoot in the Ksa since it lifted its ban on cinemas four years ago but it also represents a major collaboration between creative and financial models in the region and Hollywood talent.

AGC Studios is producing the film with Jb Pictures and Mbc Studios, the in-house production arm of leading Mena media company Mbc Group. The project is also the first tentpole-sized project to...

Peacock and UK’s Channel 4 have renewed the critically acclaimed musical comedy We Are Lady Parts from Nida Manzoor.
The series, inspired by Manzoor’s experiences and from the rich and diverse cultural collectives and artists in London, follows the eponymous Muslim punk band, featuring geeky Ph.D. student and lead guitarist Amina Hussein (Anjana Vasan) and fierce and enigmatic front-woman Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey).
Saira uses Amina’s desperation to find a husband as leverage, offering to hook-up dates for her if she agrees to join the band. Amina has never, ever met girls like this before, and soon gets swept up in their joyful anarchic energy. But she becomes torn and caught up between two different worlds – that of her more strait-laced university friends led by her bestie Noor (Aiysha Hart) and the world of Lady Parts.
Other cast includes Juliette Motamed, Faith Omole, Lucie Shorthouse, and Zaqi Ismail.
