Does someone at MSNBC get a bonus for every media report that includes the name “MSNBC” and the word “apology”? This time, the cable news network apologized for a tweet it posted last night suggesting/fearing/hoping conservatives would not like the new Cheerios Super Bowl ad, and directing readers to its report on the ad. The spot features the same interracial family used in an earlier Cheerios commercial that set off quite a discussion — YouTube’s comments section on the ad was turned off when the talk got particularly heinous. “Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/ biracial family,” MSNBC tweeted, directing readers to its report and ad video. Outrage ensued, with headlines including “MSNBC Slimes ‘Right Wing’ as Racist Over Cheerios Ad,” and “MSNBC Trolls The Right With Cheerios Tweet,” among others. Cue up MSNBC apologies via Twitter: Earlier,...

Cheerios First Ever Super Bowl Ad Features Interracial Family That Spurred Hateful Internet Backlash
Cheerios is bringing back the interracial family that last year touched off an internet firestorm of bigoted comments. This time, the trio is starring in a commercial for the Super Bowl. The ad, titled “Gracie,” features a black father and white mother telling their little girl, Gracie, that she’s about to get a new baby brother, using Cheerios to represent the members of the family. After a pause, Gracie adds another Cheerio to the bunch: “And a puppy.” The father agrees, much to his wife’s consternation. 2014 is getting off to a tough start for NBC News. No sooner does the division announce its priority is getting Today back up on its feet with a new tagline Rise To Shine that will help viewers forget its bungled dumping of show co-anchor Ann Curry, than a report surfaces that NBC News will not renew Curry’s $12 million contract — the one she got when she was shoved off Today. The network has denied the Radar report, noting Curry has been given an actual big assignment which, presumably, is what happens when you pay someone $12 mil a year. Meanwhile, the division’s Sunday Beltway show Meet The Press got its fourth quarter numbers, and they’re the franchise’s worst in its history in the news demo. Mtp also suffered its smallest fourth quarter total viewer crowd since ’91. This news forced the news division to have to insist to Politico...

Melissa Harris-Perry has already given a tear-filled apology for joking about Mitt Romney’s black grandchild on her MSNBC program in December, but conservative radio host Glenn Beck doesn’t know why because he doesn’t think she “said anything bad.” “When I got home and I saw the apology for what she said about Romney, I thought I was going to lose my mind. She apologizes for what?” Beck said on his radio program on Monday. “It was a break with comedians. Yes, it wasn’t nice. Yes, it was hurtful and divisive if that was the intent, but it clearly was not.

The National Review is out with long article Monday morning that examines one possible solution to the recent controversies that seem to have consumed America's "left-leaning" cable news network. "In recent months, Alec Baldwin, Martin Bashir, and, most recently, Melissa Harris-Perry have awkwardly crashed into the trinity of sexual orientation, gender, and race," media editor Eliana Johnson writes, "leading many to wonder if there are any adults in charge at MSNBC."...

As we previously reported, MSNBC host Melissa-Harris Perry had an unfortunate moment while making light of a Romney family Christmas photo, and she has since apologized for the "joke" that fell flat. NewsBusters reports that MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry spent her Saturday delivering a heartfelt apology. The news anchor displayed a holiday family photo that included Kieran Romney, an adopted grandchild who happens to be African American, sitting on his grandfather's knee. It was the paneled comedians with her who made insensitive remarks that turned a light-hearted segment south quickly. The apology transcript - courtesy of NewsBusters - is as follows: Melissa Harris-perry: Good morning. I'm Melissa Harris-Perry. We have a lot of news and politics to discuss this...

Melissa Harris-Perry broke into tears on Saturday while apologizing to Mitt Romney and his family for comments made on her MSNBC show about the former Republican presidential candidate’s adopted, African-American grandchild, Kiernan Romney. “I am deeply sorry that we suggested that interracial families are in any way funny, or deserving of ridicule,” Harris-Perry said at the beginning of the morning edition of the ”Melissa Harris-Perry” show. Her voice cracking and her eyes welling over, Harris-Perry said she apologized to the Romney family “without reservation or qualification” and added, “My intention was not malicious, but I broke the ground rule that families are off-limits.

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry, who had been criticized for panelist remarks on her Dec. 29 show about Mitt Romney's family and adopted African-American grandson, offered a televised apology to her viewers on Saturday morning. "Whatever the intent was, the reality is that the segment proceeded in a way that was offensive," Harris-Perry said. "Showing the photo in that context of that segment was poor judgment. So, without reservation or qualification, I apologize to the Romney family. Adults who enter into public life implicitly consent to having less privacy, but their families and especially their children
