There is no doubt it’s always tear-jerking when a good movie guy dies or in particular is killed. However, there were obviously some moments when we cried watching the demise of the bad guys (and don’t say you never did it).
These 7 movie villains, chosen by Reddit, literally broke our hearts with their deaths.
1. Blade Runner (1982) - Roy Batty
Rutger Hauer’s rogue replicant died lamenting his memories "will be lost in time, like tears in rain" and realizing the inevitability of the fate waiting for him after what he had done.
“Probably the only villain I felt deeply for,” says Redditor @_my_simple_review.
2. The Mummy Returns (2001) - Imhotep
In the end of the movie the audience starts sympathizing with the High Priest of Osiris, whose actions were dictated by his love for Anck-su-namun, who eventually betrays him. Imhotep’s subsequent death is an extremely sad and touching moment to rewatch.

Fans love a good violent Batman movie once in a while, but when a promising animated film gets censored after it proved to be the perfect avenue to channel the grim and grotesque nature of the franchise, it surely was a massive disappointment for the audience.
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker almost gave fans what they wished for, but after a tragic shooting accident that happened in 1999 at the Columbine High School, the media’s portrayal of violence was put in question. This forced Warner Bros to distribute a censored version, while the original cut was released later in 2002.
5. The Decapitation Of Two-Face’s Dummy

Courtroom drama is supposed to be part of the Law & Order universe's brand, but Svu doesn't always follow suit.
In recent years, Ada Carisi often debates the case's merits before the trial, but once the cops convince him to press charges, the case is moved off-screen.
Law & Order: Svu Season 25 Episode 10 was an exception, featuring one of the most sensational -- and unrealistic -- trials in the series' history.
This trial was the logical culmination of the Maddie Flynn arc, which has stretched over most of the season. The newscaster at the beginning of the hour did a great job of recapping it for viewers who had managed to miss the entire story.
It could have been a powerful indictment (no pun intended) of the shortcomings of the criminal justice system in cases like Maddie's. Unfortunately, this time around, the writers chose sensationalistic drama over realism, undermining the point they were trying to make.

Jonathan Nolan elucidates the inception of the iconic line from ‘The Dark Knight.’ ( Photo Credit – Flickr )
In a recent revelation, Christopher Nolan disclosed that the memorable line from his celebrated Batman film, “The Dark Knight” (2008), originated from his brother and co-writer, Jonathan Nolan. Nolan acknowledged his initial lack of understanding of the line’s profundity: “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
During a recent interview with Deadline, Christopher Nolan discussed his ongoing battle with a specific line from “The Dark Knight” as he didn’t originate it. He admitted that the line, penned by his brother Jonathan Nolan, strikes a chord with him, despite his initial confusion. Christopher Nolan initially incorporated the line into the script without grasping its whole meaning, but as time passed, its truth dawned on him. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy has some of the most quotable dialogues in cinema history. Several lines by Batman and Joker in the film have left a mark on pop culture and have even found themselves in modern memes. However, not every line could leave an impact like Harvey Dent’s- “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

Fans were shocked to learn from Christopher Nolan that the iconic dialogue was not written by him but by his brother, Jonathan Nolan. The Nolan brothers have collaborated on several projects like The Dark Knight Trilogy and The Prestige. When the Westworld co-creator recently visited the SXSW Film & TV Festival, he explained the iconic Harvey Dent dialogue.

There's no one way to play Batman. With "Batman Returns," star Michael Keaton cut more than half his lines, making for a broody, mysterious Dark Knight that fit perfectly among the more outlandish freaks that populated Tim Burton and production designer Bo Welch's nightmare fairytale landscape. For his Dark Knight trilogy, however, Christopher Nolan wasn't afraid to let Christian Bale's Batman bellow multiple lines using his now-famous guttural growl.
Both approaches worked, but there's no doubt Nolan's trilogy presented a much more quotable Dark Knight. Several of Bale's most striking Batman lines have now been solidified in pop culture history, with perhaps his infamously overwrought "Swear to me!" from "Batman Begins" being the most salient example. But Bale's Batman wasn't the only part of Nolan's trilogy that proved infinitely quotable. The director's scripts were a treasure trove of meme-able lines, many of which found their way into mass culture almost immediately.

Recently, Christopher Nolan made an interesting admission: The most famous line from his fan-favorite Batman film, 2008’s The Dark Knight, wasn’t his creation and was a line that he initially didn’t quite get. Nolan said his brother, frequent collaborator and co-writer Jonathan came up with the prophetic line, “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
“I’m plagued by a line from The Dark Knight, and I’m plagued by it because I didn’t write it,” Nolan told Deadline last month. “My brother wrote it. It kills me, because it’s the line that most resonates. And at the time, I didn’t even understand it … I read it in his draft, and I was like, ‘All right, I’ll keep it in there, but I don’t really know what it means. Is that really a thing?...

Over 15 years after its release, "The Dark Knight" remains one of the best superhero movies ever made. It's a blockbuster that changed movies forever, helping usher in the era of superhero domination in cinema and legitimizing the genre as more than just popcorn fare. Heath Ledger's posthumous Academy Award win marked the first time a superhero movie had received recognition for its acting at a major awards show, while the movie being snubbed for a Best Picture nod led to the so-called "Dark Knight Rule" (which extended the category's number of nominees from five to 10).
"The Dark Knight" was also the movie that kickstarted Christopher Nolan's love of IMAX, and, all that aside, is just a well-written film with fantastic dialogue that continues to be referenced and parodied to this day. Arguably, however, no line has taken quite on a life of its own quite like Harvey Dent saying,...

A prolific TV character actor, voiceover artist, and one of the tallest performers in Hollywood has passed away. As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Richard Moll, known by most as the tall, bald bailiff Aristotle Nostradamus "Bull" Shannon on "Night Court" and the voice of Harvey Dent/Two-Face on "Batman: The Animated Series," died at his home in Big Bear Lake, California. He was 80.
At a towering 6-foot-8-inches tall, Moll often played intimidating figures, like his first television role of "Big Thug" on "Welcome Back, Kotter," Harold the Monster on "Here's Boomer," the abominable snowman in the film "Caveman," the gigantic zombie soldier in "House," Hoagie in "The Flintstones," Mestema in "The Dungeon Master," Hugh Kane in "Scary Movie 2," and even one of the Dementors in "Jingle All the Way."

The 23rd edition of the Tribeca Festival will unspool June 5-16, 2024, in New York City, organizers said today, and submissions are now open.
Festival Director Cara Cusumano has been promoted to SVP of Programming and José F. Rodriguez to Senior Programmer.
The fest, presented by Okx, and founded in 2001, has expanded over the years from film into television, immersive, games and audio storytelling and also leans heavily on music and live events, which may be helpful next year as ongoing Hollywood strikes by actors and writers slow production on U.S. projects.
“Tribeca is a global platform for storytellers to showcase art that speaks with purpose. As the industry has changed, we have evolved to be inclusive of all forms of storytelling,” said Tribeca CEO and co-founder Jane Rosenthal. “We’re proud to be the launchpad for the next generation of artists. In the universe of James Bond, there are several tiers of villains. There are the primary villains, of course, the mad geniuses like Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Auric Goldfinger, Karl Stromberg, or Max Zorin, who plot to take down financial institutions, governments, military installations, or even the entire world. Sometimes it’s even all of the above Next, however, are the secondary adversaries who may support the main villain in their plans but are often either in it for their own financial gain (as opposed to world conquest), or because they’re in trouble, and this is their only way out. Think of Pussy Galore from Goldfinger, Milton Krest from Licence to Kill, General Ouromov from GoldenEye, Professor Dent from Dr. No… and the list goes on and on.
And then there are the henchmen who are there for one sole reason: to kill James Bond, or in the words of one famous villain,...

After getting off to a shaky start, David Duchovny’s second directorial feature Bucky F*cking Dent delivers some hard truths and profound wisdom against the backdrop of a 1978 Red Sox-Yankees American League East pennant game. Adapted from Duchovny’s book of the same name, his follow-up to 2004’s House of D finds Teddy (Logan Marshall-Green), an aspiring novelist and Yankees peanut vendor, returning home to visit his estranged, dying father Marty (Duchovny). His work is rejected by a literacy agent who encourages him to commit a crime, go to prison, and write about it––otherwise he’s just another uninteresting voice in changing times. Fresh from a divorce, the shaggy-haired Teddy is going through an awkward phase, stuck in a profound rut. His dad comments that despite being 33 his son looks both younger and older than he is.

Last week was a good one for the NHL’s Golden Knights, who won the Stanley Cup, but not for The CW’s Gotham Knights, which was canceled after its freshman season. Today Misha Collins, who starred as the dashing, idealistic District Attorney and Gotham City mayoral candidate Harvey Dent, took to social media to reflect on the superhero series and thank its Bat Brat fans.

For his sophomore feature, the follow-up to 2004’s little-seen indie House of D, David Duchovny serves up a similarly niche confection, a sometimes-zany black comedy based on his 2016 novel of the same name. The elevator pitch is a tough one; though it’s funny in places, the tone is all over the place, one minute aspiring for the arch, stoner laughs of PTA’s Inherent Vice, the next veering into straightforward sentiment with a rambling final section that hits a similar highway to the 2006 Sundance hit Little Miss Sunshine. There’s also the f-word: the looming curse of American baseball movies that don’t have the word Field in the title, which could hamper its commercial prospects in the wider world.
The setting is 1978, and Yankee Stadium peanut vendor Ted Fullilove (Logan Marshall-Green) has finally finished his novel, the weighty Magnum Opie. He thinks it’s a masterpiece, but his...

More often than not, the privileged ones of societal hierarchy use their nefarious instruments to keep their status quo intact and to do so, they incriminate the hapless downtrodden ones. The sixth episode of the CW’s Gotham Knights reflects on that aspect, as the titular team of amateur crime fighters learn that they weren’t the only victims of the Court of Owl’s conspiracies. In the previous episode, we saw Harvey Dent gradually sinking inside the quicksand of the Court’s schemes, and the team recovered the ledgers of the McKillen crime family, which can help them prove the Court’s involvement in Gotham’s corruption as well as clear their names in the process.

Joker: Folie Deux is deep into production now, filming across Los Angeles, New Jersey, and New York City. It’s in the Big Apple that we’re finally getting our first look at Lady Gaga‘s Harley Quinn costume and makeup, thanks to quite a few photos leaked from the set.
Unsurprisingly, the Joker-verse take on the classic Batman villain has a slightly more stripped down, grounded look. You likely won’t get Lady Gaga running around Gotham City in a full-on red, black, and white motley in this movie but the costume does at least retain the character’s original color scheme introduced in Batman: The Animated Series.
You can check out the pics below:

After the pilot had set the team of ragtag teenagers on the run as they escaped the authorities while trying to clear their names, the second episode of “Gotham Knights” introduced them to some serious heat in the form of a direct attack from the Court of the Owls. In the previous episode, stakes were quickly established as Bruce Wayne was murdered, and the suspected trio Duela and Row siblings Harper and Cullen were set up for the crime as they had been instructed to carry out a heist at the crime scene. Later, Bruce Wayne’s adopted son Turner Hayes was implicated in the crime, and the quartet managed to escape custody with the help of Robin, aka Carrie Kelley. Da Harvey Dent, determined to bring his friend’s killers to justice, announces a city-wide manhunt for the fugitives. Turner asks his best friend Stephanie Brown for help, and...

“Gotham Knights” has arrived on The CW, introducing not only the adopted son of Batman, but the children of some of his most famous rogues. That includes Duela, who is apparently the Joker’s daughter — but is that actually her true identity? Well, Misha Collins won’t confirm or deny.
Here’s the situation: Duela (Olivia Rose Keegan) is a crafty, maybe crazy young thief, who we meet in the first episode of the new series. She’s flanked by Harper (Fallon Smythe) and Cullen (Tyler Dichiara), and together, the three of them are paid to break into Wayne Tower and steal a very specific gun. But, as it turns out, they were hired to do that job as a means of framing them for the murder of Bruce Wayne, who is, of course, exposed to be Batman.
Naturally, the kids are arrested, and during Duela’s interrogation, Harvey Dent (Misha Collins) comes in,...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the series premiere of The CW‘s Gotham Knights.
The CW’s Gotham Knights premiered Monday and, with it, Misha Collins made his return to the network, about three years after the end of his 12-season run on Supernatural.
In Gotham Knights, Collins plays Harvey Dent, Gotham’s charismatic, hard-charging District Attorney. With a rigid sense of right and wrong, Harvey’s idealism and single-minded quest for justice will ironically and tragically transform him into one of Gotham’s most feared supervillains, Two-Face.
The series picks up in the aftermath of Bruce Wayne’s murder, with his rebellious adopted son forging an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. In the season premiere, Dent is still the straight-laced Da, who is desperately trying to solve Wayne’s murder and take care of his son.

The Batman is dead. Long live … his previously unseen adopted son?
That’s the premise behind “Gotham Knights,” the CW’s latest (and last?) DC Comics-based TV series, potentially putting the pin in a remarkable 18-year run encompassing everything from “Smallville” to the expansive “Arrowverse” and the still-airing (for now) “Superman & Lois.” If this is indeed the end, it feels like a sad, destined-to-be-ignored footnote rather than a triumphant farewell.
Of course, the Dark Knight has always been a particularly sparkly gem in the DC crown, which probably accounts for why his solo exploits remain the dominion of feature films, leaving various television offerings to dig and scrape in the corners and crevices of the Batman mythos for storytelling opportunities. Just in the last 10 years we’ve gotten Batman’s city before Batman (Fox’s “Gotham”), Batman’s butler before Batman (Starz/HBO Max’s “Pennyworth”), Batman’s...

Countdown star Susie Dent has revealed the identity of two Hollywood stars who “apparently” watch the show.
The long-running Channel 4 game show, which has been on the air since 1982, recently welcomed new presenter Colin Murray. He replaced Anne Robinson.
While promoting his new stint as host, Murray and his co-stars Dent and Rachel Riley were asked about their favourite Dictionary Corner guests, to which Murray named Richard Osman.
Riley opted for Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Chris Packham and Tim Rice, whom she said were “all incredible”.
Dent, who sits next to the dictionary corner celebrity guest, remained hesitant to name one, telling Metro.co.uk it was “impossible to choose”.
Dent said she has “the best seat in the house sitting next to so many fascinating guests”.
When asked if they “know of any unexpected fans of the show”, Dent said that former host Richard Whiteley “always reminded us that...

As much as we respect Christopher Nolan for giving his Batman trilogy a clear-cut, definitive ending after only three films, one can't help but wonder what could've happened if there had been four or five movies in total. What other villains could Christian Bale's Batman have gotten to face off against, and what would that have looked like?
It's a juicy, albeit admittedly pointless question, as Nolan was always interested in doing no more than a trilogy, after all. But if a 2020 interview with Nolan and co-writer David S. Goyer is any indication, they would've picked the villain based on what they wanted Bruce Wayne's character arc in the film to be. "With these three films, and with 'Man Of Steel' even, we always said, 'What kind of story do we wanna tell about our protagonist, what kinda challenges do we want to have them face?'" Goyer explained.

This post contains spoilers for "The Batman."
While Matt Reeves' "The Batman" was pretty much a triumph on the whole, it's not hard to deny that Colin Firth's Penguin was a decisive highlight. The big wigs at Warner Bros. must have thought so too, as the character will soon be heading up his very own series on HBO Max. The spin-off will apparently take place just a week after the events of "The Batman," which ended with the death of mafia don Carmine Falcone. "The Penguin" will likely address the power vacuum that Falcone's death leaves behind in Gotham, and follow Oswald Cobblepot's rise through the ranks of Gotham's underworld in order to take that power for himself.
Farrell himself has cited the HBO prison drama "Oz" as a point of inspiration for "The Penguin." That series followed the shifting tides in a fictional men's prison — fittingly named the...

Sir Trevor McDonald and Floella Benjamin will guest host Countdown as part of the show’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
The quiz show was the first programme to air on Channel 4 when the broadcaster launched in November 1982 and remains the channel’s longest-running series.
To celebrate the milestone, four broadcasters will each take on a week-long hosting stint alongside resident lexicographer Susie Dent and mathematician Rachel Riley.
Benjamin will be up first, appearing on the week commencing 31 October, with TV judge Rob Rinder joining Dent as the guest in dictionary corner.
She will be followed by celebrity vicar and Radio 4 presenter Reverend Richard Coles the week after. Former BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker will appear with him alongside Dent.
The next week (beginning 14 November), McDOnald will return to host the show. McDonald last sat at the helm in September 2021 as part of Channel 4’s Black to Front project, in which...

Batman: The Long Halloween has been embraced as a superb Batman tale, a solid mystery story, and a superlative effort from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. It has remained in print since its arrival in 1996-97. Warner Animation tackled this in 2021, releasing it in two parts, which I liked when I reviewed them here and here.
The parts have now been sewn together into a far more satisfying single volume, upgraded to 4k Ultra HD, which incrementally enhances the overall enjoyment.
The 13-part story is set early in Batman’s career, with Loeb plumbing the Gotham underworld as established by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli in Batman: Year One. Interfering in Carmine “The Roman” Falcone’s (Titus Welliver) gang operations is the arrival of the Holiday Killer. Tracking him with little effect over the course of a year are Batman (Jensen Ackles) and his grudging allies Captain James Gordon...

Countdown star Susie Dent has shared an “exceptionally appropriate” word of the day ahead of the announcement of the UK’s new prime minister.
On Monday (5 September), Liz Truss is expected to be announced as the new prime minister after a six-week Tory leadership campaign.
Voting among the estimated 200,000 Tory members tasked with choosing Boris Johnson’s successor closed on Friday (2 September), and either the foreign secretary or Rishi Sunak will be declared the victor at 12.30pm by 1922 Committee chair Sir Graham Brady.
Ahead of the announcement, Countdown lexicographer Dent shared a “hilarious” choice for her word of the day.
“Word of the day is Zugwang [tzoog-tzwung],” wrote Dent on Twitter. “A situation in chess (and life) in which a move must be made, but each possible one will make the situation worse.”
It did not take long for fans to pick up on the apparent subtext of the tweet, which...
