SeriesFest Season 9 Independent Pilot Competition Winners Include ‘Humanized’, ‘Chanshi’ (Exclusive)
SeriesFest Season 9 unveiled its list of winners in the independent pilot competition at a ceremony in Denver on Wed, May 10. Jurors screened 55 pilots from creative voices around the globe at this year’s iteration of the television festival.
“The independent pilot competitions are at the heart of our mission. It is why we founded SeriesFest,” said Randi Kleiner, CEO and Co-Founder of SeriesFest. “It was to be a discovery platform for independent artists and give them the opportunity to get their voices heard, their projects seen by an audience and executives, and make new connections. Anyone who has made a pilot deserves to be honored.”

Ellen DeGeneres’ emotional goodbye to daytime ended her flagship talk show on a ratings high note.
The May 26 series finale of “Ellen” yielded a season high 1.8 rating among adults 18-49, according to live + same day Nielsen data. The number marks a 30 percent improvement from the ratings of the show at the same time last year, and a 64 percent improvement over ratings for the show from the week prior. The run of episodes that week garnered a 1.3 rating, up 18 from the week before.
“Ellen” had been steadily improving in ratings as the show reached its announced end date. Over a two week period prior to the show’s end date, the show’s rating rose by 44 percent and averaged a daily growth of 568,000 viewers in its audience. Its final ratings make it the third highest rated daytime talk show during the week, behind “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (1.6) and “Dr Phil...

Exclusive: Ashley Holland, former TV lit agent and partner at WME, has officially joined Onyx Collective as SVP of Scripted Series. She is one of three new executive hires at Onyx as the brand is building up its scripted operation, along with producers Anil Kurian, who is coming from G-Unit Film and Television, and Janice Park, most recently at Made Up Stories, who will both serve as VP of Scripted Series. All three will report to Tara Duncan, president of Freeform and Onyx Collective, Disney’s content brand designed to curate a slate of premium programming by creators of color and underrepresented voices.
Holland, Kurian and Park will spearhead the development and production of Onyx’s scripted series and specials across all programming categories and formats. The three executives round out Duncan’s programming leadership team, which includes nonfiction programming executives Jacqueline Glover, head of Documentary and Jihan Robinson, VP of Alternative.

Exclusive: Ashley Holland, a TV lit agent and partner at WME, is leaving the agency to join Onyx Collective, Disney’s curated content brand for creators of color and underrepresented voices. I hear her deal is still being finalized, and she will stay at WME for a few more weeks, but Holland is expected to be a senior scripted executive at Onyx.
WME President Ari Greenburg sent the a note to the agency this afternoon, announcing Holland’s career move.
“Ashley will be a superstar at Onyx, because everywhere she goes, she has tremendous impact,” he wrote. “We are sad to lose her, but we are so excited to watch her ascend at the Walt Disney Company as part of the leadership at Onyx.” (You can read his memo in full below the post.)

The agency named 25 new partners, spanning a variety of WME departments and offices. WME also announced internally that compensation is being fully restored, across the entirety of Endeavor, starting January 1. Pay reductions came into play in April, after the Covid pandemic shut down theaters, film and TV production and live events, placing financial strain on every agency’s cash flow.
