Robbie Montgomery experienced the intense, demanding management style of Ike Turner firsthand. As one of the original Ikettes of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, she provided dreamy background vocals and dazzling choreography to the stage show — and also provided the future Queen of Rock & Roll with a confidante during her abusive relationship with Ike.
“Tina was like a sister to me. We would try to get her to leave. We talked about it all the time, every time it happened,” Montgomery tells Rolling Stone. “Even though it didn’t happen in front of us,...

Tina Turner joins the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2021 in Cleveland this October, along with Jay-Z, Gil Scott-Heron, Todd Rundgren, Carole King, Foo Fighters, and The Go-Gos. Tina is already an honoree as a member of Ike and Tina Turner, and she is also once again distinguishing herself from the group. Even before she went solo, Turner had star billing, such as her turn as the Acid Queen in Ken Russell’s film adaptation of The Who’s Tommy. But Tina had to skip the credits for her work with Frank Zappa, who was posthumously inducted into the Rock Hall in 1995.
Turner recently made a gracious exit from the stage in HBO’s feature documentary Tina. She is also highlighted in Apple TV+’s upcoming 1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything. This was the year Ike and Tina’s cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary” hit No.

Small businesses are getting a lot of the reality TV spotlight – for good reason: A starring role on a reality TV show can dramatically boost a small company's sales. The shows get big national exposure, turning a tiny restaurant or hair salon into a household name.
Below is a sampling of reality TV shows that feature small businesses and the average number of people that are watching. The numbers are from Nielsen, which provides information and insight into what consumers watch and buy, and are an average of the show's most recent or current season.
"Duck Dynasty"
Viewers: 8.3 million
"Duck Dynasty" revolves around the Robertson family as they hunt, camp and make duck calls for Duck Commander, the West Monroe, La.-based business that the family's bearded patriarch Phil Robertson founded in 1972. The shows season 3 finale was the most watched program in A&E's history.

New York — There's no business like small business.
Mix the high stakes of running a small business with a dash of family drama and throw in a camera crew and you get hit reality television shows such as "Pawn Stars," "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" and "Duck Dynasty."
Turning small business owners into stars has become a winning formula for television producers, but some businesses featured in them are cashing in, too. Sales explode after just a few episodes air, transforming these nearly unknown small businesses into household names. In addition to earning a salary from starring in the shows, some small business owners are benefiting financially from opening gift shops that sell souvenirs or getting involved in other ventures that spawn from their new-found fame.
Sales at Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas are five times higher than they were before "Pawn Stars" first aired in 2009. More people are pouring into the St.

When we left Tim Norman, his mama Miss Robbie Montgomery and their family's booming restaurant business in June, viewers were still waiting on two big events: Tim's wedding to his son's mother, Janae, and the grand opening of the family's new eatery, Upper Crust.
As "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" opens its new season Saturday, Sept. 15, on Oprah Winfrey Network, the Upper Crust is a go, leaving Tim solely in charge of Sweetie Pie's Mangrove location and further stretching the family's time, emotions and resources. "There is some drama to talk about," Norman tells Zap2it, chuckling. "Not everyone was prepared for this explosion and this experience, and there are positives and negatives that come along with it. You guys are going to see all of that."
Still, Norman says, he is grateful for the fresh perspectives the cameras give him as they record his family's ups and downs, most notably...

Oprah Winfrey -- who recently acknowledged that early mistakes led to sagging ratings at her Own network -- is hoping that a slate of new shows will boost the numbers and breath new life into the cable channel.
Oprah on Difficulties and Mistakes at Own
The network announced Thursday that among the new shows ordered for its prime time lineup are a game show in which people answer are given a quiz to win prize money (Are You Normal, America?), a docu-series about a couple with sextuplets (Six Little McGhees) and a talk show hosted by self-help expert Iyanla Vanzant (Iyanla Fix My Life).
Own Cancels The Rosie Show
In addition there is Elura and Michele Take Staten Island -- in which two former prosecutors "tell it like it is" -- and Married to the Army: Alaska, an unscripted series about the wives of deployed soldiers living in Alaska.

Robbie Montgomery spent 20 years as a backup singer for Ike and Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones and other A-list acts -- but it's her second act as the life force behind a pair of popular St. Louis eateries and star of Own's breakout hit "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" that made her more famous than she could imagine.
Content to fill her customers up on the soul food she learned to cook from her mother, Miss Robbie's fierce devotion to family led her back into show business.
