J.R. was born in Stonybrook, New York and grew
up in Phoenix, Arizona. He received his BFA in
filmmaking from Arizona State University and his
MFA from the New York Film Academy. He
directed over 20 short films during the course of
this training, including his award winning thesis
film, "Butterfly," which premiered at The
Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. After
graduation, J.R. interned under Michael Bay at
The Institute. J.R. went on to write and direct
"M.A.G.", a Marvel comic book based fan film
which was well received at the Action on Film
Festival. When he's not writing or working on films,
he spends his time in the gym training in Muay Tai.
