Russell Simmons' recently launched All Def Digital YouTube network will predominantly spotlight young, talented artists looking to gain a wider audience, but one of its first series takes an inside look at a trio of well known hip-hop personalities. Odd World: MellowHigh follows three members of the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All collective--Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, and Left Brain--as they record the first album for their new project, MellowHigh. Though Hodgy, Domo, and Left haven't not achieved the same level of mainstream attention as fellow Odd Future members Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, and Earl Sweatshirt, they share the same youthful energy and in-your-face attitude that has helped make Odd Future into one of hip-hop's most controversial groups. Therefore, while Odd World will spend plenty of time in the studio, we can expect MellowHigh to throw out plenty of surprises. "I mean this is MellowHigh,...

On Wednesday, PepsiCo removed an online ad for Mountain Dew developed by Odd Future rapper Tyler, the Creator after it was criticized for portraying racial stereotypes and making light of violence toward women. In the 60-second spot, a battered white woman on crutches is urged by an officer to identify a suspect out of a lineup of black men that includes Odd Future's Left Brain and L-Boy and Trash Talk's Garrett Stevenson along with a talking goat. The ad offended some who noted all the suspects were black and all of the cops were white. Photos: Grammys 2013:

A brawl at an Odd Future show has drawn the attention of authorities in San Antonio, Texas.
The fight occurred during the rap collective's Dec. 8 show at the White Rabbit in San Antonio. Chassan Rafati, 17, filed a police report against the group reports MTV News, alleging that the group's attack left him with scratches and bruises. The incident wasn't reported to police until six days after the show, and MTV News notes Rafati offered video evidence of the altercation to authorities.
"A person could be observed jumping on stage but the assault could not be observed on camera," reads the report.
A fan video posted to YouTube also shows what appears to be a fight during which someone rushes the stage only to be surrounded by members of the Odd Future crew.
TMZ (who identified the 17-year-old fan as Chassan Rasagi) posted photos of bruises allegedly obtained during the incident.

Good morning!
This interview with Lindsey Shaw is so good and has so many juicy tidbits about Paily, you'll love it.
Casey Wilson is a-mah-zing on Happy Endings, and she's also a huge friend of the gays. She recently talked with The Advocate and said she's never explored any lesbian side, but has girl crushes on Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. Smart lady.
Check out Sara Gilbert's new digs in West Hollywood. Not too shabby!
Kelly Lynch talked with The Av Club about her favorite roles and one of them was as Ivan on The L Word. I learned a lot. Here are some of the best tidbits.
I literally got a call later in the day. “Look, something just came our way, and it’s really romantic.” I said, “Great!” “You don’t have to audition or anything,...

Kris Tapley mourns cinematographer Harris Savides, who died at age 55: "I hadn't heard that cinematographer Harris Savides had been ill, certainly hadn't known that he was on the ropes, but he has apparently passed away at the far-too-young age of 55. I don't know the cause of death but I know this one's a big blow to the industry. Savides most often collaborated with filmmaker Gus Van Sant. He shot films like 'Finding Forrester,' 'Gerry,' 'Elephant,' 'Last Days' and 'Milk' for the director. But he also worked with David Fincher from time to time ('The Game,' 'Zodiac'), as well as Noah Baumbach ('Margot at the Wedding,' 'Greenberg'). His final work will be seen in Sofia Coppola's 'The Bling Ring,' which releases next year." In Contention Frank Ocean predicts success at the Grammys: "Next week,...

The Biebs did it again! Justin has earned the top spot on Billboard's annual '21 Under 21' list. Find out who else made the list! Billboard released its annual "21 Under 21" list Sept. 18, which ranks the hottest young entertainers of the year. Pop star Justin Bieber topped the list for the second year in the row. The ranking is based on record sales, social followings and Billboard editors' expectations of how much buzz the artists will generate over the next year. Boy band One Direction came in second, rising 17 slots from last year, followed by Demi Lovato, Scott McCreery and Matt Miller. Sadly, Justin's girlfriend Selena Gomez fell three spots to number six, trailed by DJ Porter Robinson, British singer Cher Lloyd, and Odd Future rapper Earl Sweatshirt. Nick Jonas dropped two spots to No. 10. The rest of the list: Completing the 21: 11. Jackie Evancho 12. Cody Simpson 13. Mindless Behavior 14. Megan & Liz...

Ron Howard is excited. On the day HuffPost Entertainment spoke with the Oscar-winning director, Howard was promoting a new contest for Cannon that finds him playing mentor to Eva Longoria, Biz Stone, Jamie Foxx, Georgina Champman and James Murphy. Of course, that didn't stop an energetic Howard -- who speaks in polite, clipped sentences that come in bursts -- from going off on some tangents.
Not that you can blame him: Howard is currently editing "Rush," working on the much-anticipated return of "Arrested Development" and preparing to sift through hours of footage from Jay-z's inaugural Made In America music festival, from which he and longtime collaborator Brian Grazer will carve a documentary.
And then there's the contest. Cannon has recruited Howard and the aforementioned crop of over-achievers (aside from the actors, Stone founded Twitter, Chapman is Marchesa's designer and Murphy just dissolved LCD Soundsystem out of a want for...

Frank Ocean was among the long list of performers at MTV's Video Music Awards broadcast on Thursday night. He shared the stage with the likes of Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Pink and One Direction, but it's safe to say his VMAs performance stood out among that company.
Ocean sang a stripped-down version of "Thinking About You," a song off channel Orange. Ocean was seated by a fake campfire, wearing his trademark bandana. The young Odd Future crooner's vocals sound studio-perfect.
Lady Gaga was a fan:
The crowd seemed receptive, especially given that a song like "Thinking About You" isn't exactly a Chris Brown banger. The low-key performance was emotional, with strong art direction.
HuffPost Blogger and DJ A-Trak was another big fan:
Ocean made waves in hip-hop by coming out in advance of his album release. He wrote a tumblr post in which he described a "malignant" love for another man.

Best New Artist is a three-way race between Carly Rae Jepsen, Frank Ocean and One Direction. Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” ranked at number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 for nine weeks, making it the song of the summer and year so far. And Jepsen is Justin Bieber’s protégé. Three other new talents promoted by big stars have won this award: In 1999, Eminem was Dr. Dre’s protégé and won; in 2003, Eminem returned the favor and mentored 50 Cent who won; and two years ago, Usher oversaw the launch of Bieber who also won. Can Bieber pass the torch to fellow Canadian Jepsen? Ocean is a member of the hip-hop crew Odd Future. Last year, their leader, Tyler the Creator, won this award. Ocean, who is performing on the Vma telecast, is also nominated for Best Male Video and Best Direction in a Video for “Swim Good.” Make Your Vma...

Philadelphia -- If closing out a two-day festival with an intense two-hour set wasn't enough for Pearl Jam, then bringing out the man who organized it sealed the deal.
Jay-z joined the group for its second-to-last encore Sunday with a rocking version of his signature hit "99 Problems."
While Jay closed out the first night of the Budweiser Made in America Festival, he handed the torch to the Seattle-based band grunge rockers and they did not disappoint.
Their 25-song set saw tens of thousands of fans jumping, dancing, and singing on the muggy September night to the band's well-known tracks like "Alive," "Better Man," and "Jeremy."
For the song "Unemployable," Vedder told the crowd it was about a hard-working family man who did all the right things in life, but became the victim of job cuts. He said sometimes the so-called job creators are creating jobs outside the United States.

Philadelphia — Jay-z's entrance said it all: He bounced up and down on top of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, mimicking Rocky before he took the stage in front of nearly 50,000. His song "Made In America" played in the background.
Jay-z, like Rocky Balboa, has a rags-to-riches American dream story, and the 42-year-old entertainer – who grew up in the Brooklyn projects and released his debut album in 1996 – shared some of that through songs in his 90-minute set Saturday night at the Budweiser Made In America festival.
He entered from the back of the stage after running down the steps to perform "Public Service Announcement." That was followed with the night's first cameo: a prerecorded video with President Barack Obama.
Obama urged the crowd to vote this fall. He also said Jay-z's story is "what Made In America means" and added that he enjoys listening to the rapper's music on his iPod.

"I'ma up at Brooklyn, now I'm down in Tribeca/Right next to De Niro, but I'll be hood forever," Jay-z raps on "Empire State Of Mind" and certainly the man who grew up in the Marcy Houses is rolling in a new area code, with some considerably more upper crust friends. And while this pairing still seems sort of odd, Shawn Carter is able to grab this kind of talent these days. This Labor Day weekend, you will be able to find Ron Howard at the "Budweiser Made In America" music festival where he'll be making a documentary of some kind about Jay-z. New York — Snoop Dogg has rapped in songs where gay slurs have been tossed about.
He's even said them, part of a long list of rappers who have freely used the f-word – the other f-word – in rhyme.
For years, anti-gay epithets and sentiments in rap have largely been accepted, along with its frequent misogyny and violence, as part of the hip-hop culture – a culture that has been slow to change, even as gays enjoy more mainstream acceptance, particularly in entertainment.
But while perhaps glacial, a shift appears to be on the horizon.
"People are learning how to live and get along more, and accept people for who they are and not bash them or hurt them because they're different," Snoop Dogg said in a recent interview.

When one thinks of a possible Jay-z feature film, the first collaborator that comes to mind is likely not Ron Howard. But such is the case, as we’ve learned the director of A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code and Frost/Nixon is teaming with the hip-hop icon to capture an upcoming concert, one he was heavily involved in creating.
New York Post reports that Howard and his longtime producer Brian Grazer are set to film Jay-z‘s Made in America music festival, which kicks off on September 1st in Philadelphia. It won’t just be a simple performance documentary either, as Grazer said the film will be “born through Jay-z’s perspective…how he puts the event together. Jay stayed the king for a very long time…I can’t even begin to explain how he is capable of remaining relevant. He is a phenom, like a musical Michael Jordan.
