Fox International Productions (Fip) and Ivanhoe Pictures have signed a four-year, multi-film co-financing deal for local language films in India, South Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan.
Ivanhoe, the film and TV entity established earlier this year by international financier Robert Friedland (pictured), producer John Penotti and media executive Ray Chen, has allocated an initial $130m.
The arrangement begins with an investment in 10 Fip films at various stages of production across the four aforementioned territories. Fip is currently making films in 11 countries throughout Asia, Western Europe and Latin America.
Its local-language productions recently crossed a $500m in box office since the company’s inception four years ago.

Fox International Productions and Ivanhoe Pictures have signed a four-year deal to co-finance local language films in China, India, Korea, Taiwan and Japan, the partners said Tuesday. Ivanhoe was launched by international financier Robert Friedland, producer John Penotti and media executive Ray Chen. The company has committed to investing an initial $130 million towards Fox International productions. Fox International is a division of 20th Century Fox, and currently has local production businesses in 11 countries throughout Latin America and Western Europe. The studio said its local language films have made more than $500 million at the box office since the company began producing them four years ago.

Fledgling Ivanhoe Pictures has partnered up with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson’s Color Force on Crazy Rich Asians and will finance and co-produce the Kevin Kwan’s bestseller adaptation.
Color Force will oversee development of the script in conjunction with Kelly Carmichael for Ivanhoe. Kwan will serve as executive producer.
“When we talked about our dream partner for Crazy Rich Asians, we envisioned a company that had a real presence in both the United States and Asia,” said Color Force’s Nina Jacobson.

The company will initially focus on building bridges between the Us and China, India, South Korea and Japan. Beyond that, the company will pursue English-language and local productions in a number of markets.
