After portraying 11 different clones (and winning an Emmy for her efforts) in the recently wrapped sci-fi series "Orphan Black", Tatiana Maslany is slacking off by playing just a single character, Erin Hurley, in this month’s Stronger.
The film is based on the book by Jeff Bauman and Bret Witter and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Bauman, who was standing at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon waiting for girlfriend Hurley to complete the race when the blast from the bomb left by terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev exploded at his feet.
Bauman lost both legs — but was able to identify Tsarnaev from his hospital bed — and the movie recounts Bauman and Hurley’s relationship as he begins his arduous journey of recovery.

A theme appears to be emerging in a lot of 2017 pop culture. It’s become one of the defining features of Game of Thrones, runs through the layered narratives of Dunkirk, and takes center stage once again in Stronger, a film that plays with an implied tagline, “What doesn’t kill you, makes you…” It’s fitting for a world that feels more in flux and in peril than many of us have experienced in our lifetimes, this idea that there’s a level of heroism in mere survival, that enduring and living to fight or simply wake up to another day is something worth celebrating, something noble.
Stronger may not explore this concept as fantastically as Thrones or as grippingly or viscerally as Dunkirk, but there’s a ground level inspiration to it that’s worth admiring. It depicts the story of real life Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman (played by Jake Gyllenhaal,...

It's difficult to get through the trailer for Stronger -- the real-life story of Jeff Bauman, who became a double amputee following the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing -- without being brought to tears. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Bauman on screen and the movie's poster, debuting on Et, shows him mid-physical therapy with the tagline, "Strength Defines Us."
Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions
Director David Gordon Green tells Et that his film is more than just a tearjerker, though. "You're in for a ride," he said by phone. "That certainly expresses a side of the emotional intensity of the movie, but you might be surprised to find a good sense of humor woven in there as well. Expect a few chuckles alongside a tear or two."

That terrible, gut-wrenching sound you just heard? The one that sounded like your favorite music box crashing to the ground, fluffy puppies being denied kibble, and unicorn tears splashing in a rainbow puddle? That was the heart of Nashville‘s Avery as it finally, firmly tore itself asunder.
Yep, this week’s episode finds the Barkley-Barnes union officially undone after Cadence’s daddy reaches his breaking point. And guess who’s right there to help him realize that enough’s enough? A vengeance-filled former reality star with dramatic bangs and a yen to napalm Juliette’s world.

Scandal ends only its third season on Thursday night, and yet narrowing down the show’s many twists and turns into a top 10 list was an effort in restraint.
Take season 3′s “Yolo,” for instance: In a single hour, Huck tortures his onetime apprentice Quinn, Olivia discovers her mom is a terrorist, and the vice president murders her husband. That’s one episode. So we assembled EW’s most committed Gladiators to hash out our twisty top 10, and we think Olivia Pope would be proud of how we handled things. I brought the group a list of more than 20 of...

You never forget your first time watching “Don’t Rain On My Parade.”
We’ve already ranked the top Glee performances of all time, which tend to be big group numbers. But any fan of the show also treasures its individual star-making moments — whether they’re quick ditties sung in the choir room, or, inexplicably, full solos sung at a competition.
In honor of the musical dramedy’s 100th episode, which airs tonight, we looked back over Glee’s first 99 installments to pick out our favorite musical moments for each main character. (And by that, we mean the ones who sing a lot — sorry,...

Derrick Coleman hasn't even played in the Super Bowl yet, but he's already proved he'll be the game's Most Inspirational Player. His biggest fan? A 9-year-old New Jersey girl who penned the sweetest letter ever to the Seattle Seahawks fullback. She was reacting to the recently released Duracell commercial chronicling the odyssey that led him to become the first deaf offensive player in the history of the NFL. His story particularly touched the hearing impaired community, and prompted a moving note from little Riley Kovalcik, who struggles with hearing issues along with her identical twin sister, Erin, reports New York's Daily News.

This debut feature from writer, director and actor Jay Alvarez is, as the publicity enthusiastically tells you, the first feature film composed entirely of cell phone calls. In principle, this novel approach is a brilliant one. For the one thing, it gives the characters the chance to vent their spleens outright. Much like the confessional diary entries of protagonists in found-footage films, no time is spent dilly-dallying around plot points and introductions, we cut straight to the case. Secondly, the approach is favourable because it encourages the idea that films can be made with minimal resources, and that with a great cast and with great writing, dialogue can prove enough to carry any story. This is a most refreshing stance in the current era of filmmaking, and one that we want, so much, to work well.
Unfortunately, multiple problems mean the film just does not live up to these hopes.

On Feb. 26, 2002, conjoined twins Kendra and Maliyah Herrin were born sharing a large intestine, bladder, liver and a single kidney. Each sister had two arms, but just one leg.
The girl's parents, Erin and Jake, faced an agonizing decision: separate the girls, or keep them conjoined. Both options would put the twins' lives at risk. The survival rate for conjoined twins is extremely low, and doctors had never before performed surgery to separate two bodies sharing the same kidney.
When the twins were 4 years old, Erin and Jake decided to have them separated. After a nerve-racking -- but successful -- surgery, Jake and Erin were reunited with their daughters. Five months later in 2007, the girls traveled to Chicago to meet Oprah.
"Their wills are so strong," Erin said during their appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." "Kendra is just up and down off of her bed. It's just amazing to...

Let’s face it: Season 8 of The Office was like getting a Prism Durosport for Christmas when you really wanted an iPod. Meandering plots, characters acting out of, well, character and an overall lack of focus dragged down the NBC comedy’s first full year without Steve Carell.
