Janet Dickerson is a seasoned communications and media relations expert with more than a decade of experience implementing multi-channel PR campaigns, strategic sponsorships, influencer engagement, crisis and rapid response strategies, creative content development, and more. She also specializes in event production and publicity, content production, editorial writing, and diverse/multicultural outreach.
Dickerson began her career in politics, serving as Press Officer for now-U.S. Senator Cory Booker while he was Mayor of Newark, New Jersey. In 2009, she was hired by former New York City Comptroller William Thompson to be Deputy Press Secretary for his Mayoral campaign against Michael Bloomberg. Afterward, Dickerson ventured into the non-profit/advocacy sector by becoming Press Secretary for national research and action institute PolicyLink.
As Managing Principal of the impact PR consulting group Human Impact Solutions, which she co-founded in 2010, Dickerson serves an an adviser to non-profits, political campaigns, startups, and small businesses, as well as community/grassroots activists, groups and organizations.
Some of her clients include 6x NBA Champions the Golden State Warriors, award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Movement for Black Lives (M4BL), Black Philanthropy Month, Youth Mentoring Action Network, New Venture Fund, Breakthrough, The Decolonizing Wealth Project, Blackout for Human Rights (co-founded by Ryan Coogler), Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and Sankofa, the organization founded by entertainer, activist and humanitarian Harry Belafonte. Her firm was also a web consultant on Question Bridge, an award-winning transmedia art project Executive Produced by celebrated actor and activist Jesse Williams, and which now resides at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.
Recently, Human Impact Solutions managed PR for "Zoom Where It Happens" - a live table read series to mobilize voters in the 2020 presidential elections produced by Cynthia Erivo, Tessa Thompson, Kerry Washington, Rashida Jones, Stefanie and Quentin James, Channing Dungey, Karen Richardson, Issa Rae, Latanya Richardson and Ava DuVernay. HIS also led PR and influencer engagement for the "She Will Rise" campaign to appoint the first Black woman to the U.S. Supreme Court; and "Nationtime," the unearthed documentary by William Greaves chronicling the 1972 National Black Political Convention.
