While efforts have been made to seize the assets acquired with the stolen loot — and there have been seismic anti-corruption trials in Kuala Lumpur — the man accused of being the mastermind of the 1Mdb scandal, the flamboyant Malaysian businessman Jho Low, is still a fugitive. The story of human rights lawyer Jared Genser, who has helped free political prisoners in a number of hot zones around the world, is being developed by Orlando Bloom with Amazon as a TV series.
The streamer is in the early stages of developing the Untitled Jared Genser Project, which will be exec produced by Carnival Row star Bloom and former HBO exec Bruce Richmond.
Genser is Managing Director of Perseus Strategies and founder of Freedom Now. He was dubbed ‘The Extractor’ by the New York Times for his work freeing political prisoners.
His speciality is freeing prisoners of conscience and human rights prisoners in high-risk areas throughout the world’s most difficult hot zones, working with a core team of specialized operatives.
Clients have included former Czech Republic President Václav Havel, former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed, and Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Aung San Suu Kyi,...

The Australian International Documentary Conference (Aidc) has unveiled the 10 feature documentary and factual series finalists that will present at its FACTory International Pitching Forum.
Producer and director teams will pitch each project to an assembled group of top-level buyers, commissioners, and distributors at Federation Square’s Deakin Edge Auditorium, receiving expert industry feedback and potentially sealing financing deals on the spot. The live forum, to be held March 5, is open to all Aidc delegates and the public.
