Union J's George Shelley has revealed that he was originally meant to join MK1 on last year's X Factor.
He was rejected from MK1 when member Charlie Rundle said that she didn't think he would fit in, Heat reports.
Shelley was rejected as a solo act at the Boot Camp stage of the competition, but was brought back to join Triple J, who then became Union J.
Shelley said: "The media made out I was forced into [Union J], but I wasn't. The X Factor producers wanted to put me in MK1, but Charlie, the female singer in that band, wouldn't let me.
"She didn't think I'd fit in. So the producers said I could either go in GMD3 or Triple J."
Union J were part of Louis Walsh's Groups category and reached the semi-finals of last year's series, which was eventually won by James Arthur.

District3 have left The X Factor. The boyband became the latest act to be eliminated after falling into the bottom two tonight (November 11) with fellow group Union J. District3 performed a rendition of Bruno Mars's 'Just The Way You Are', while Union J sang Adele's 'Set Fire to the Rain'. Mentor Louis Walsh was visibly emotional at seeing his remaining acts competing against one another in the sing off. Union J are now Walsh's final act in this year's competition. After the two groups performed to earn a place in the final six, it was left to the judges to save their preferred act. Walsh was the first judge to be asked for his vote but refused to choose between his acts. Gary Barlow expressed his surprise at District3's "worst vocal performance to date" and chose (more)...

It was Best of British on tonight's episode of The X Factor, but there weren't any servings of pie and mash. Instead, there were lashings of Elton John, Robbie Williams and Nicole in a white trouser suit on the menu. But who do you think gave the best performance of the night? Did James Arthur blow you away with Adele's 'Hometown Glory'? Or maybe District3 nailed it with 'Tears in Heaven'? Perhaps Christopher Maloney's version of 'I'm (more)...

X Factor group District3 have spoken about wanting to get back to their musical roots during their performances. On last night's episode of the show (November 3), the group sang Taio Cruz's hit 'Dynamite'. However, their performance drew criticism from judges Nicole Scherzinger, Tulisa and Gary Barlow. The group, who are mentored by Louis Walsh, said that they felt "deflated" following their performance. Greg West, Mickey Parsons and Dan Ferrari-Lane spoke on The Xtra Factor later that evening, and said: "It's always good to take a risk, and we're always finding ourselves and who we are on (more)...

X Factor act District3 have chosen their own song ahead of this week's live show. The boyband were criticised last week after mentor Louis Walsh had them sing 'I Swear', with the other judges branding the performance "dated". Gary Barlow told them: "You've had a really bad night tonight. The harmonies were off. When you watch this back you'll be disappointed. I think in the battle of the boybands, Union J have taken it tonight." They ended up in the bottom two on Sunday's results show, but were saved after the judges sent the vote to Deadlock. Melanie Masson was eliminated from The X Factor after receiving the fewest votes. (more)...

Melanie Masson was eliminated from The X Factor tonight (October 14). The 44-year-old contestant became the second act to leave the competition this year after she was placed in the bottom two alongside District3. Masson sang 'Stay With Me', a hit for Bette Midler and Duffy, in a bid to stay in the show, battling against the boyband's version of '(Everything I Do) I Do It for You'. However, she was eliminated after the judges failed to reach a majority decision and it went to Deadlock. Turning to the judges after the contestants' performances, presenter Dermot O'Leary asked them who they would like to send home. Walsh said it was "an amazing sing-off", before voting to save his own act District3 and send Masson home. Tulisa said the acts were "completely different - but both very talented" and also voted (more)...

Louis Walsh is ''quietly confident'' a group could win 'The X Factor'. The mentor believes his groups GMD3, MK1 and Union J - and wild card act Times Red - could be in with a shot of winning the show and is confident in all of the bands and their ability to work hard. He said: ''I'm really honest with the guys, I just tell them it's hard work and if they work hard, they'll get it. I'm quietly confident. I think there's a lot of competition.
