“Lucifer” showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson didn’t want a sixth season of their Tom Ellis-led Netflix drama. After all, they had made their peace with the fact the show was renewed for a fifth and final season by the time the series finale was just about to be shot last spring, when the streaming service came to them and asked if they wanted one more round for Lucifer Morningstar (Ellis).
“When they told us that we might have Season 6, we were like, ‘We don’t want it.’ Like, ‘What do you mean you don’t want it? Really?’ ‘Yeah, we love our ending.’ And they’re like, ‘Well, think about.’ You know, we’re writers, so we thought about it,” Henderson told TheWrap. “And then, we were just riffing and we’re like, ‘Oh, s–t, so much of what Lucifer has dealt with is becoming his...

(Warning: This post contains massive spoilers for the series finale of “Lucifer.”)
Just when it seemed like Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and Chloe Decker (Lauren German) would get their well-deserved happy ending after saving the life of their time-traveling, half-angel adult daughter Rory (Brianna Hildebrand), the reunited family had to go and finally figure out why Lucifer abandoned his daughter in the future: To become the proper ruler of Hell he was always meant to be, transforming into a Devil who doesn’t punish, but works to help the damned resolve their issues and move on to heaven.
Lucifer is very reluctant to go, knowing that he will miss Rory’s childhood and the rest of Chloe’s human life, with Rory going through all of the trauma she has already experienced once in the future again, unable to know why her father left her. But the Devil agrees to...

Kevin Alejandro had a slightly different experience from his “Lucifer” co-stars when wrapping up his time on the show, as his last day of shooting on the sixth and final season was one in which he both acted in the episode and directed it. And it just so happens that this particular installment, “Goodbye, Lucifer,” featured the moment that fans of Alejandro’s Detective Dan Espinoza have been waiting for ever since he died and went to hell at the end of Season 5B: the closure that allows him to head up to heaven.
The scene comes in the penultimate episode of the series, which launched Friday, and features a conversation between Dan and his young daughter with Chloe (Lauren German), Trixie (Scarlett Estevez), who has been devastated over her father’s death for months and unable to cope without him.

It’s official — Netflix has ordered a sixth season of Lucifer, which will be its last. The announcement (you can see it below) acknowledges the fact that the streamer previously renewed the series for a fifth season, which also was billed as final, calling Season 6 “Final final.”
The news comes almost a month after Deadline reported the series star Tom Ellis has closed a deal to return as the title character for a sixth season. Netflix started talks with series producer Warner Bros. TV about another installment of the comic book drama ahead of the fifth season premiere. The rest of the cast and executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson also closed new deals for another season.

“Lucifer” will live on, with Netflix announcing that they have renewed the show for a sixth and final season. The announcement was made on social media Tuesday morning.
This now marks the second time the show has been renewed for a “final” season at Netflix. After airing on Fox for three years before being canceled, Netflix revived it for a fourth season in 2018. It was announced last year that Season 5 would be the last. The show made a tongue-in-cheek reference to its surprising longevity, saying Season 6 will be the “Final final” season in making the announcement. No episode count was announced with the renewal. The longest season to date was Season 3 on Fox, which was 26 episodes.

A sixth season of Lucifer is moving closer to reality after star Tom Ellis has closed a deal to return as the title character.
Netflix earlier this year started talks with series producer Warner Bros. TV about another installment of the comic book drama beyond the upcoming fifth season, which had been billed as a final installment. Executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson, who have been steering the show, quickly closed new deals for another season.
It took lengthy, difficult negotiations with Ellis but he also recently signed on to return. The rest of the cast are also on board, sources said. With all key pieces in place, Netflix is expected to proceed with the pickup.

The upcoming fifth season of Lucifer may not be as final as it seemed.
Netflix is in talks with series producer Warner Bros. TV about another installment of the comic book drama, sources have confirmed to Deadline. I hear executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson, who have been steering the show, would need to make a new deal but would like to do another season.
If all comes together, I hear the plan is for Lucifer to go back into production in September. Star Tom Ellis and other Lucifer cast members already have been approached for broadcast pilots and new series on various platforms, so Netflix and Wbtv would need to step up their efforts to secure the actors. But they are available, and sources close to the situation are optimistic that a renewal would happen.

Netflix will divide the fifth and final season of Lucifer into two eight-episode segments. The first eight will arrive, then a little break of indeterminate length, then the final eight will appear, according to series star Tom Ellis.
The revelation was made today during The Kelly Clarkson Show. Clarkson was giving her mom and sister a tour of the Lucifer set guided by Ellis.
Clarkson’s family are huge Lucifer fans, with her sister a particular fangirl who introduced Clarkson to the series.
Netflix expanded the final Season 5 episode order for Lucifer, adding six more hours to bring the season total to 16 episodes. The move to add additional episodes came from the impassioned fan support, the same base that got the former Fox show moved to Netflix.
Buoyed by strong fan support, which made Lucifer the No. 1 trending topic worldwide on the day of its May 2018 cancellation, series producer Warner Bros.

Netflix has decided to give the devil his due. The streamer has expanded the final Season 5 episode order for Lucifer, adding six more hours to bring the season total to 16 episodes.
The addition was announced Friday on the official NetflixUS Twitter account. The move to add additional episodes might have come from impassioned fan support, the same base that got the former Fox show moved to Netflix.
Last month, Lucifer executive producer Ildy Modrovich tried to break the news gently to fans that their beloved TV show is entering its final season.
In a Twitter post, Modrovich tried to head off efforts by fans who already were contemplating lobbying for a sixth season of the show. Netflix picked up a fourth and fifth season of the comic book drama after it was canceled by Fox after three seasons, in part because of the huge outpouring of support from fans of the series.

It's sad, but it's true:
Lucifer will end with its upcoming fifth season at Netflix.
The news was announced just over a week ago, and while it's good to know the show will be getting a conclusion, the big question remaining was whether the final season would have an expanded episode order.
Sadly, we have confirmation that Lucifer Season 5 will span ten episodes, in line with Lucifer Season 4, the show's first season on Netflix.
This means the series will conclude with 77 episodes.
