Sprott's grandfather Blythe, who went by the stage name Dan Edwards, hosted The Cactus Dan Show in Detroit, Michigan from 1953-1958 on WWJ-TV. Blythe later received his Ph.D. and became a professor for Cal State LA.
In 2009, he directed Abuse, a one-act play fighting against hate speech that played at the local college, along with his first short film Boxtown to raise money for the city's homeless shelter.
