The recent third season of The Witcher was Henry Cavill's last, as the Man of Steel actor announced his decision to part ways with Netflix's adaptation of the best-selling fantasy novels back in 2022.
Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will take over as Geralt of Rivia from season 4 on, and a new photo from the season 4 set gives us a first look at the updated costume the actor will don for the role.
Though the image did fool us at first, this is not actually Hemsworth himself (although he does look quite a bit like him), but his stunt-double Joel Adrian.
During a recent interview with Collider, co-star Freya Allan said she's looking forward to seeing what Hemsworth brings to the role, but is also concerned about the level of fan backlash he's sure to receive.

Geralt of Rivia’s story has an end date on Netflix.
On Thursday, the streaming service renewed The Witcher for Season 5, but revealed that it would be the last season.
The shocking announcement comes as production is finally getting underway on The Witcher Season 4 following countless setbacks.
“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate Season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” showrunner Lauren Hissrich shared in a statement.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
Saying goodbye to the hit fantasy drama will be tough, but at least we have two seasons that will help soften the blow.

Netflix has officially begun production of The Witcher Season 4 and shared a sneak peek of the cast together from the recent table read. The streaming service has also given the green light to Season 5 of The Witcher, which will film back-to-back with Season 4 and will be the final chapter in Geralt’s story.
Seasons 4 and 5 will adapt the remaining Sapkowski books, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake, promising an epic and satisfying conclusion to Netflix’s hit fantasy drama.
After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the fourth season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other.
If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire and finding one another again.

After her role as Fringilla in The Witcher, Mimi Ndiweni is one to look out for. The actress is of British, Zimbabwean, and South African descent and has been in a handful of movies and TV shows. With about ten years in the industry, it’s safe to say that Ndiweni has amassed an impressive portfolio. Besides her role in The Witcher, Ndiweni’s part in the TV series Mr. Selfridge helped catapult her to greater heights. She has also made appearances in the movies Catherine Called Birdy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Cinderella, and The Legend of Tarzan. With all that in...

Netflix's "The Witcher" may stray from both Andrzej Sapkowski's books and the popular video game series, but the controversial show does not skimp on the brutality. Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) slashes his enemies every which way, lopping limbs and halving torsos with fell swoops of his steel and silver swords. Geralt must be ruthless to survive, because in the Continent, he's one of the good guys. Elves, monsters, mages, and outlaws are all out there, scheming to get a piece of each other by spells, archery, or simple, old fashioned, bone crushing savagery.
"The Witcher" doesn't have the cold brutality found in "Game of Thrones," even in its most vicious moments. But in terms of sheer quantity and variety — men, monsters, magic, swordplay, hand-to-hand, entire pitched battles — "The Witcher" is among the most quantifiably brutal fantasy shows going. So, after tallying up three seasons of death and destruction,...

Spoiler Alert: This recap contains spoilers for “The Witcher” Season 3, Part 2, now streaming on Netflix.
“The Witcher” fans knew Season 3 would be bittersweet. It’s the final installment of the Netflix fantasy series before Henry Cavill, who has starred as famed monster hunter Geralt of Rivia since Season 1, is replaced by Liam Hemsworth in an unexpected shake-up.
Beginning in Season 4, Hemsworth will be donning Geralt’s swords, Witcher medallions and long, white locks, while the rest of the cast remains intact — except, of course, for those characters who died in Season 3, Part 2’s bloody battles.
Since the recasting was announced, fans have been wondering how the switch from Cavill to Hemsworth will happen. Would Hemsworth appear in the Season 3 finale? Would some kind of spell change Geralt’s Cavill-esque appearance into something more Hemsworth-ian? How would Geralt’s relationships with Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), Ciri (Freya Allen) and Jaskier (Joey Batey) be affected?...

Whichever way "The Witcher" (say that three times fast!) elects to send off Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia, Netflix's marketing team is certainly pulling out all the stops. The streamer has released a second and final trailer for season 3 volume 2 just a few days ahead of its arrival, complete with all the trimmings "Witcher" fans could ask for. There's even a line or two of dialogue that all but explicitly nods to Cavill's impending departure from the show. It's almost enough to give you a lump in your throat, in-between the clips of our treasured grouchy monster hunter dad going all stabbity-stabbity on his enemies.
"We didn't come this far just to abandon each other," Geralt growls at one point. "Then don't abandon me," Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) replies, as the trailer shows Geralt and his "dear friend" holding back tears. It's not all vulnerable admissions and earnest sentiment,...

The Witcher season 3 will be split into two batches of episodes, with the first batch reaching the Netflix streaming service on June 29th and the rest being released on July 27th. The show is inspired by a series of novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski, and a lot of fans were disappointed that season 2 strayed away from the source material. As the premiere of season 3 approaches, showrunner Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich has said that this season is going to be more faithful to Sapkowski’s work than the previous one.

But I talk a lot in interviews about the fact that you cannot go straight from a page to a screen. And so what we try to do and what I’ve always talked to Sapkowski about is keeping the tone of the books the same. And...

The Witcher franchise expands later this year on Netflix.
The streaming service announced Saturday during its Tudum Global Fan Event that The Witcher: Blood Origin will launch worldwide on December 25.
The six-part series is set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, and will tell a story lost to time - the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
Yeoh is set to play Scian in the highly anticipated series.
"Scían is the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves," reads the official character breakdown.
"No one can come close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart."
"When a chance presents itself to retrieve a stolen sacred sword, taken from her fallen tribe by nefarious means,...

Netflix audiences tossed all their coins to their Witcher during Season 2’s debut weekend. The fantasy show’s premiere debuted at No. 1, with audiences spending a whopping 142.43 million hours immersed in magic and monsters with Geralt (Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra). The first season of “The Witcher” followed, securing the second-place spot on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV Shows list, with 49.18 million hours of screen time.
“The Witcher” is based on the book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, which also inspired multiple video games. It tells the adventures of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Cavill) and his run-ins with enemies and deadly creatures. Season 2 of the Netflix series sees Geralt protecting Ciri (Allan) at his childhood home in the hopes of keeping the young princess safe from the Chaos within herself. “The Witcher” also features Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Anna Schaffer, Eamon Farren, Royce Pierreson and Mimi Ndiweni,...

“The Witcher” Season 2 makes a lot of choices typical to second seasons of suddenly popular series. What worked well is repeated, be it Henry Cavill’s husky, irritated energy or self-contained stories about men cursed into monsters. The established ensemble is separated, tasked with carrying their own arcs (and destined for a stirring reunion in the final episodes), while new characters set up supplementary goings-on to support a series now comfortable in its long-game. Enemies become allies, allies become enemies, and everyone wants to take a bath with Geralt. Goals are the focus — not necessarily completing any, but setting and pursuing them. Everything is about the future and building to it, which makes less room for good, old-fashioned fights with multi-dentured she-demons and tentacled tree people.
But they’re still there. “The Witcher” Season 2 can grow a tad exhausting as it walks through the world-building due diligence expected of a...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched all eight episodes of Season 2 of Netflix’s “The Witcher.”
The ending of “The Witcher” Season 2 introduces a legion of new antagonists who are all hunting down Ciri (Freya Allan), as she becomes the No. 1 target in the Continent, thanks to her mysterious, reality-jumping powers. Luckily, she’ll be protected by Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), who reunited and seemed to bury the hatchet, and their simmering romance, after Yennefer’s betrayal — at least for now.
The final shot revealed the identity of Emhyr var Emreis (Bart Edwards), the emperor of Nilfgaard, also called the White Flame, who turns out to be Ciri’s own father, previously known as Duny. He’ll have some competition chasing down his daughter in Season 3, because Redanian spymaster Sigismund Dijkstra (Graham McTavish) has teamed up with the shape-shifting sorceress Philippa Eilhart (Cassie Clare). Ciri,...

I appreciate the full circle we've come in with The Witcher Season 2 Episode 7. There's something satisfying about touching base with the familiar.
And it's not only geography but relationships too. Geralt's reunion with Jaskier is actually more touching than his reconnection with Yennefer. Mainly because we knew Yennefer was about to betray them.
The penultimate episode of the season does a solid job at bringing together the most dramatic moments of revelation and tragedy and then leaves us with a sinister cliffhanger.
I'll admit that I didn't recognize Vola's home when Ciri and Yennefer portalled there at the end of The Witcher Season 2 Episode 6, but seeing as it's where Ciri and Geralt first met, it seems fitting that Ciri and Yennefer make their first magical trip there.
Unfortunately for Vola and her family, Reince visits before Ciri drops in, leaving their bodies for her to find.
It's no wonder...

When I first watched the trailer for Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” which reimagines 19th-century Regency-era Britain as a racially equitable society in which people of color possess the same upward social mobility as white Englishmen, my eyes shot out of their sockets. I was both confused and angry, my mind suspended in disbelief.
Much to my chagrin, this seems to be a prevailing theme across several Netflix originals. It seems the streamer believes it can help with ethnic representation in the media by forcefully injecting people of color into rigidly Eurocentric worlds. This is not as grave a mistake as M. Night Shyalaman casting white actors in East Asian and Inuit roles for his adaptation of the “Avatar” animated series, or the problematic casting of a white woman, Scarlett Johansson, as a Japanese cyborg in “Ghost in the Shell.” But it’s still a mess.
