Both George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien have been some of the biggest names in the fantasy genre, each renowned for their extensive literary creations that have sparked beloved TV adaptations and blockbuster movies. Martin has openly expressed his admiration for Tolkien’s work on Middle Earth, a realm teeming with fantastical races, intricate languages, and epic battles.

If you’re a fan of the Mission: Impossible franchise, you owe a debt of gratitude to none other than Steven Spielberg. That’s right, the legendary filmmaker, 77, not only inspired Tom Cruise to offer the directing gig to Brian De Palma for the first film in the series, but he also played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of Cruise’s career.
Mission: Impossible, which was released in 1996, is one of Cruise’s most notable films. This marked not only his first work as a producer, but also his first serious attempt at a major franchise. But above all, it is an exceptional flick that set the standard for the greatest franchise that continues to this day.

From co-directing the pulse-pounding John Wick and seamlessly transitioning to headlining major projects like Deadpool 2, David Leitch’s trajectory in the film is nothing short of remarkable. Playing Brad Pitt’s stunt double in a number of movies, including Fight Club, Leitch began his career in Hollywood as a stunt and fight coordinator.
Needless to say, his enlightening journey with his producer wife, Kelly McCormick, is just as enchanting as the films they make. Not so recently, when the dynamic duo spilled the beans about the casting experience of Deadpool 2, including the role that Brad Pitt almost graced, we got a rare glimpse into the ‘what-ifs’.

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani asked the owner of a local radio station for more money and airtime several days before he was suspended for violating an on-air conduct policy.
This week, Wabc (770 Am) owner John Catsimatidis said Giuliani made the demand via text message on Tuesday, May 7, two days before Catsimatidis suspended him for making conspiratorial comments about the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election.
The comments violated an internal policy issued by Red Apple Media earlier this year and re-stated in writing last week by Catsimatidis himself, according to a statement sent to The Desk on Monday. The policy cautioned Giuliani and others from making unfounded claims about the 2020 Presidential election in on-air broadcasts. The letter sent by Catsimatidis warned Giuliani specifically against the practice.

In the world of comic book movies, there has never been a stranger relationship than the one between Jon Watts and Spider-Man. One of the most critically as well as commercially favored and strongest IPs of Marvel Comics, Spider-Man’s entry into the MCU was placed in the hands of a creator with the strangest IMDb credits under his directorial section.
Known for directing music videos, shorts, a claymation movie, and television series, Watts couldn’t have been placed at a more substantial position and with a more high-risk, high-reward IP than directing Spider-Man’s first debut under the Marvel banner after the controversial 12-year-long saga at Sony.

Andrew Garfield’s arc as Peter Parker in his The Amazing Spider-Man film series may have come to an abrupt end when fans were expecting more, but it still lives in their hearts nonetheless. This became apparent recently when Marvel fans jumped in the picture to remind everyone of his web-slinger saga by Marc Webbs after the shooting of the stunt scenes faced some criticism.
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in his own superhero film series.
This critical approach came from Jon Watts, the helmer of all three of Tom Holland’s movies as Parker, who recently shared some pretty bold advice for the next Spider-Man director regarding the slinging stunt scenes. But instead of gaining appreciation from fans for it, Watts instead faced criticism, with fans reminding him of how Garfield managed to pull those stunts off for his saga.

James Cameron is currently one of the highest-rated filmmakers in the entire entertainment industry, having helmed fan-favorite masterpieces like Titanic and 1986’s Aliens. But he wasn’t always this famous, nor were his outstanding directing skills garnering interest from audiences for at least a few years after he kicked off his directorial debut with Xenogenesis in 1978.

That said, besides The Terminator film series, what actually made him super famous in the industry was his brilliantly helmed Avatar saga, which quite literally surpassed the Star Wars lore by flying colors. But that wasn’t Cameron’s first attempt at outshining George Lucas’ universe, because the first attempt came nearly three decades earlier in 1980 through one of Cameron’s poorly-rated films.

Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has lost his daily radio talk show after being suspended by the broadcaster over policy violations.
The suspension came after Giuliani received repeated warnings to not offer unsubstantiated views about the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election. Giuliani is one of several figures who painted the outcome of the election as fraudulent, and has been criminally charged in two states for allegedly helping then-incumbent Donald Trump overturn certain election results. Trump lost the election to then-Senator Joe Biden.
Giuliani’s show was one of several hosted by right-of-center personalities as part of a strategy to develop Wabc Radio into a conservative powerhouse under the guidance of the station’s current owner, Red Apple Media founder John Catsimatidis.
But Wabc is not an outlet where anything goes, Catsimatidis said...

One need only look at James Gunn to realize that not all good things in life come in the form of blessings and opportunities. Some of them appear in a red, white, and blue costumed dysfunctional superhero who vows to bring peace to the world, even if he has to kill every man, woman, and child for it. John Cena’s iconic Peacemaker returns to Dcu to get what he wants, even with James Gunn standing in his way.

2012’s The Avengers is widely regarded as one of the best movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, perfect just the way it is. But little do fans know that the film wasn’t always supposed to unfold the way it did. In fact, this version only reached fans because of Robert Downey Jr., their favorite Oscar winner and former Tony Stark portrayer.
The Avengers (2012).
As it turns out, the original version that filmmaker Joss Whedon had planned for the movie wasn’t meant to include any of the supporting characters from the previous movies in this film at all, which included Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts as well. But then Downey Jr. stepped into the picture and went against Whedon’s decision, just to include his character’s love interest in it, too.

Despite the mysticism of voice-over acting and the mysterious voices behind the animated parts, there remains a strong attraction to the medium of animation for actors who strive for real creative potential beyond the allure of recognition and glamor. Kevin Conroy stands out, among the millions of other faceless heroes, as one of the most respected and famous voice actors whose contribution to the DC comics lore has made him synonymous with Batman.

Hugh Grant is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood, and his perfect combination of wit and charm only makes it more understandable why. Needless to say, his very charming personality and physical features are also the reason why a lot of the roles he has donned have been in rom-coms. But even through those rom-coms, Grant has displayed quite a bit of action.

However, one time, this display of action in a similar ruthless manner as Tom Cruise almost ended up killing him. This happened in the iconic film that set him up as the King of rom-coms and is still regarded as a masterpiece, Four Weddings and a Funeral. But that isn’t the only surprising fact, because Grant was actually never the first choice to play the protagonist in that movie!

The first and original Dune live-action movie from 1984, based on Frank Herbert’s novel series of the same name, may not have been as perfect of an adaptation as Denis Villeneuve’s, however, Kyle MacLachlan’s performance as Paul Atreides in it was nothing short of epic. This was perhaps because of his nerdiness and ever-lasting love for the superhit science fiction book series.
Dune (1984).
That being said, MacLachlan obviously had some advice for Timothée Chalamet as well, when he heard that the younger Hollywood heartthrob would be the one replacing him in the iconic role for Villeneueve’s reboot of the saga. It would not be incorrect to say that George R.R. Martin’s criticisms of Game of Thrones gave rise to the ‘dragons’ in House of the Dragon.
When David Benioff & D. B. Weiss’ Game of Thrones first hit our screens, one of the most awe-inspiring elements was undoubtedly the dragons. These mythical creatures may have won the hearts and imaginations of many fans as we watched Daenerys Targaryen raise them from tiny hatchlings to massive, fire-breathing beasts.
However, it appears that Martin, the mastermind behind the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, regrets these things the most.
George R.R. Martin (Image: Gage Skidmore/Wikimedia Commons)
He had some valid reservations about the dragons’ portrayal in the original show, which he believed improved in the prequel series, House of the Dragon. According to Martin, Game of Thrones’ dragons lacked “personality” and were all too similar to one another.

David Benioff and D. B. Weiss’ Game of Thrones transcends boundaries as a beloved historical fantasy series. Chris Pine unarguably looks effortlessly perfect in every single role he dons, and the same was the case when he played the fan-favorite character of Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman franchise. Yet, as immaculately as he performed in this role that went on to win the hearts of fans from all across the globe, what’s surprising is that the actor actually never wanted to play him.

Although it may seem unbelievable to many, it is only true that Pine rejected the role of the beloved husband-material Steve — not once, but twice. But the reason behind his turning down the iconic part was only understandable because he felt like his character “sounded like a second fiddle,” and he, for one, had “no interest,” whatsoever “in playing the boyfriend” in a superhero movie.

Although Kit Harington attracted all eyes on him with his prolific performance since the beginning of Game of Thrones, people can’t forget one House Stark character who set the tone for the show’s notorious unpredictability. It’s none other than the actor behind the role of Eddard “Ned” Stark, Sean Bean, who left quite an impression on the series and its fans.

Despite Sean Bean’s appearance in Game of Thrones being cut short with an untimely demise at the end of season one, his impact on the series extended far beyond his character’s arc. His influence was later seen in the performances of subsequent actors, including Paddy Considine who appeared as King Viserys in the prequel series House of the Dragon.

Zack Snyder’s dreams of rebooting the entire DC universe were short-lived, and the filmmaker was pushed out before he could create a conclusive enough world. While fans were disappointed to see him go, they have pretty much backtracked and are excited to have James Gunn helm the superhero universe now.

A former Marvel director, Gunn has already proven his capabilities in the genre and will be directing the first Dcu film, Superman. However, fans are not happy after hearing the recent update about the movie and believe Gunn is making the same mistake as Snyder.

James Gunn and Zack Snyder are both auteurs and incredible filmmakers. Yet, DC fans have not been kind to Snyder for his dark take on the mythos and seem to hate him with a passion.

People in the entertainment industry seem to get into awkward and embarrassing situations all the time, especially after getting drunk at some major events and afterparties. And while we do know that the first name to have popped into your mind after reading this must have been Jennifer Lawrence’s, this one’s about someone else entirely: Robert Pattinson.

As it turns out, Pattinson once got drunk enough to get into a fight after midnight with none other than the iconic diva who made her way to becoming one of the top artists in the music industry from scratch, Adele. And, unsurprisingly enough, things didn’t really turn out all too well for the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire star, as he later admitted just how much he regretted that encounter.

Chris Pine, one of the most charismatic actors in the entire global entertainment industry, was close to going broke once. Yes, you read it right. Despite being such a handsome young aspiring actor in his 20s, the Hollywood heartthrob would have nearly gone broke in the early 2000s. However, both his bank balance and his career were saved thanks to one fan-favorite fam-com.

The year 2023 was one to forget for Marvel Studios. Time hasn’t been kind to them since Avengers: Endgame rocked the world. That was the peak for MCU, wasn’t it? Who doesn’t remember fans going crazy for a movie that was almost a decade in the making. Ten years of lore was all leading up to that one moment. Amongst all the superhero movies ever made, the Infinity Saga truly was in a league of its own. But 5 years down the lane, the MCU is struggling. And the reason is a cause of worry for every cinema aficionado.

The iconic character of Doctor Strange in the MCU has become one of the most loved ones over the years, and a major credit for this goes to none other than the fan-favorite Benedict Cumberbatch. In fact, the 47-year-old actor was so widely loved in the role that even those fans who rallied for Joaquin Phoenix for the role can’t imagine someone else playing the character.

That being said, Phoenix got really, really close to nabbing that role from Cumberbatch. However, fortunately enough, things went in the favor of The Imitation Game actor. What’s more, even though his involvement in the movie cost Marvel millions of dollars due to scheduling conflicts, the franchise still agreed, as per what the director of the 2016 movie Scott Derrickson recently confessed.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently suffering severely, and its recent box office bombs justify just how much on the edge of the cliff it is. If anything, except for a few, there have hardly been any perfect movies from the saga after Avengers: Endgame, which itself was released nearly half a decade ago. This is why many seemingly termed this problem as being “superhero fatigue.”

However, two masterminds tend to differ in their respective opinions on this situation. According to the Russo Brothers, this recent downfall of the MCU isn’t due to “superhero fatigue,” but is rather a part of a “generational divide.”

Who would have guessed the author of A Song of Ice and Fire novels George R.R. Martin, to be a Marvel fan? Usually, writers of his stature often claim to be neck deep into von-Goethe, Hemingway, and the obvious Shakespearean dramas. But Martin broke stereotypes after claiming to be an avid comic book fan, particularly inclined towards Marvel, more than DC.

The X-Men: The Animated Series was a masterpiece in its finest form, and Larry Houston was one of the producers at the helm of it. But even after such tremendous success with it, Houston still has one major regret about the show.

This regret is about his not exploring the character arc of a super-powerful yet long-forgotten hero, who was even more closely related to Scott Summers than what the non-comic book readers may expect. Every entertainment buff knows how the one saga perfectly connected to Ridley Scott’s name is the Alien franchise. Even after 32 years since the release of Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series, the four seasoned show still seems like a quality watch. Worthy of celebration and binge-watching, the 1992 series brought in dark visuals, compelling stories, and incredible characters that impressed fans, once and for all. But among all the profound things that the show did, Timm indefinitely created a better version of one Batman villain.

America’s major television broadcasters are urging the leading two presidential candidates to participate in a series of debates this year.
The encouragement took the form of a letter endorsed by the news businesses of ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox and NBC, and is a rare sign of unity and solidarity during what is typically a partisan and politically-charged election cycle.
The letter comes at a time when the leading candidates from both parties — President Joe Biden, the incumbent, and former President Donald Trump — have signaled a likelihood to skip out on this year’s presidential debates.
If that comes to pass, it would be the first time since the mid-1970s that the leading candidates from both parties have refused to engage in a televised presidential debate.

The disappointment that comes from seeing a great film do poorly at the box office almost certainly never goes away. One of the most important Batman storytellers of all time, Bruce Timm, does not seem to understand how good Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is.
Timm, who produced Batman: The Animated Series and co-directed Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, discussed how much he “cringe[s]” at the beloved animated 1993 Batman flick in an interview from last year. He noted that while the 1990s were a major decade for animation in motion pictures, the Kevin Conroy starrer was initially intended to be a television special.

For Timm, it seems as though “ten percent” of the movie was missing. It is possible that he will always watch the best possible cut of the movie. However, the version that audiences saw is among the greatest Batman films ever,...

Bruce Timm started working with DC Animations since 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series. Since then, he has worked on numerous projects that have come from the pages of DC Comics, and is still an important part of the Dcau. When he started working with DC, Marvel animation was but a blip in the pop culture world, and the MCU did not even exist.

It wasn’t until 2008’s Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. that the MCU started taking shape under the leadership of Kevin Feige. Fiege, now the President of Marvel Studios, had a vision, that he slowly started to bring to life. But still, it took him a little while to achieve a franchise that is now considered to be the most profitable.

James Cameron is often considered as someone who would go beyond his way to ensure he gets his demands fulfilled. Take for example, when the filmmaker had to send out empty threats of making an Ellen Ripley-free version of Aliens, after Sigourney Weaver wasn’t approached by her agent with the offer of returning for a sequel.

According to GQ, James Cameron had spent months writing the sequel story for 1979’s Alien after he was assured by 20th Century Fox that Sigourney Weaver was tied in for a follow-up. However, after writing the script, as he was informed that the actress wasn’t even approached with the offer for a sequel, Cameron decided to fast-forward the process and get what he wanted, by bluffing.

Both Batman and Superman were meant to inspire; one lived in the shadow of fear, the other in the light of hope. The two superheroes have similar goals in life: they want to thwart evil while leading separate lives in order to defend their city and its citizens. They follow different paths that pit them against the most evil villains; they are neither allies nor rivals.
Batman and Superman, no matter what, never lose sight of who they are and, thus, are adamant about upholding their moral standards. There is a fundamental distinction in the characters’ origin stories, even though at times it seems like they are more alike than different.
