Protests interrupted the show at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards this afternoon.
Chants could be heard from outside the venue on Sunday afternoon (February 25) at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, Calif.
While Jim Gaffigan was on stage to present the award for Best Ensemble Cast in a New Scripted Series to the cast of Jury Duty, screams could be heard and they were so loud it seemed like they were possibly inside the room.

Reports from the show reveal that there are chants of “Free Palestine” and “Free Gaza” outside of the tent at the pier. It appears to be from a single protestor with a bullhorn playing a recording. The chants have been continuing for at least 10 minutes and still have not stopped.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Gold Finale
At the beginning of each episode, The Gold announced itself as a mix of fact and fiction with the disclaimer: “The following is inspired by real events. Some characters or elements have been created or changed for dramatic purposes.” That meant while several of its characters had the real names of figures associated with the Brink’s-Mat Robbery, including Kenneth Noye, Micky McAvoy, John Palmer and Dci Brian Boyce, some were created for the series.
Money launderer Edwin Cooper is one of the invented names, for a character likely inspired by real-life solicitor Michael Relton, who was sentenced to 12 years for his part in washing the proceeds of the 1983 robbery. Detective Nikki Jennings is another invention, a composite character inspired by several of the female police officers who worked on the Brink’s-Mat investigation.
Two other characters appear under what seem to be invented names,...

The latest appeal from Bill Cosby contends that if five other women at his retrial hadn’t been allowed to give testimony about being assaulted and drugged by him, the man once known as “America’s Dad” wouldn’t have been sentenced to up to 10 years behind bars last fall for the 2004 rape of Andrea Constand.
“This evidence was used to strip Cosby of his presumption of innocence and to try to establish that Cosby had the propensity to sexually assault women,” the comedian’s appeal attorneys Sarah Kelly-Kilgore, Kristen Weisenberger and Brian Perry wrote Tuesay in a sprawling and over-sharing formal appeal filing (read it here) in the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.
“This evidence never should have been admitted at trial,” the trio of Cosby’s latest lawyers adds, calling it “striking dissimilar” to what occurred with Constand, the former Temple University employee. “For the reasons set forth above,...

Less than a week after losing yet another set of lawyers, Bill Cosby was told Friday by the District Attorney that put him behind bars for the 2004 rape of Andrea Constand that his latest sprawling attempt to get a new trial, a new judge or out of prison altogether should be Doa.
“Defendant William H. Cosby, Jr’s motion should be denied without a hearing,” said Montgomery D.A. Kevin Steele’s office today in the most restrained part of their response to the paperwork of October 5, That quilted motion came just under two weeks after the much accused actor once called “America’s Dad” was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for the assault of Constand, a former Temple University employee.
“This is a timeworn case, and defendant has had his many days, months and years in this court,” Steele and Deputy D.A. Robert Falin also wrote,...

Less than a month after Bill Cosby was sent to state prison for the 2004 rape of Andrea Constand, the man once called “America’s Dad” was up to his old tricks of replacing lawyers.
“Kindly withdraw my appearance on behalf of the Defendant, William Henry Cosby, Jr., in the above-docket mater,” said Joseph P. Green late last week in a filing in Pennsylvania court (read it here). “In light of the entry of appearance of other counsel of choice for the defendant, William H. Cosby, Jr., kindly withdraw my appearance as co-counsel for the defendant,” asserted Keystone State based Peter Goldberger today as the lawyer also exited the case (read that filing here).
“My work has ended,” Green told Deadline Monday erasing any ambiguity of his role for the actor going forward. Technically, the departure of both Green and Goldberger, who took over as Cosby’s attorneys in June after...

Most celebrities have not been vocal so far about the news that Asia Argento paid a young actor a settlement after a sexual encounter when he was 17.
The New York Times broke the story Sunday evening that former child actor and musician Jimmy Bennett had received $380,000 from Argento after the 2013 encounter in a California hotel.
Members of the media were less circumspect than Hollywood talent, although some questioned why the accuser was named and cautioned that the news should not overtake the progress made by the Me Too movement.
Oscar observer Brian Perry tweeted, “The big Q is whether people will look past this moment to still embrace all Asia has done for #MeToo.”
The big Q is will ppl look past this moment to still embrace all Asia has done for #MeToo.
And if so, will ppl accept some of the genuine remorse from a few of the men involved in accusations.
