Exclusive: Neill Blomkamp’s alien abduction thriller They Found Us has shut down pre-production in Saudi Arabia as it reworks its finance structure, we have learned.
Suicide Squad and For All Mankind star Joel Kinnaman is attached to star in the AGC Studios-backed movie, which was due to get underway in coming weeks. Cast had yet to travel to set.
A growing number of sizeable English-language movies are choosing to film in Saudi Arabia. Among big productions to recently shoot in the territory have been AGC’s Anthony Mackie pic Desert Warrior — currently in post-production — and Gerard Butler movie Kandahar. They Found Us is among a handful of U.S. productions being made in collaboration with Saudi production hub Neom.
The move to restructure the finance plan behind the independent movie comes just as tension in the region is growing due to the Israel-Gaza crisis.

Almost exactly one year after Kevin Smith sold his horror anthology Killroy Was Here as an Nft (with the Ashley Benson slasher Alone at Night following in his footsteps soon after), Variety reports that XYZ Films has picked up the domestic distribution rights to another film that blends horror with crypto. Thankfully, this one isn’t being sold as an Nft, it will be heading out into the world in a more traditional way. The new movie is called The Deep Web: Murdershow and it will take viewers on a dark ride when a journalist’s search for clues to his sister’s murder leads him to a disturbing crypto currency torture website inside the deep web called The Murdershow. As those close to him disappear, he must find and stop this reign of terror.
The idea of torture website kind of reminds me of the Hostel movies. If that franchise were still alive,...

Joel Kinnaman (For All Mankind) is attached to star in They Found Us, an alien abduction thriller to be directed for AGC Studios and Temple Hill by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (District 9), which will head into production in Australia later this year.
The film to be fully financed by Stuart Ford’s fast-growing independent content studio, AGC Studios, is based on an original screenplay by Jeremy Slater, whose credits include Moon Knight, Fantastic Four, The Exorcist, The Lazarus Effect and The Umbrella Academy. It will follow a father (Kinnaman) and his daughter Kaylee as they undertake a camping trip in the Utah wilderness to heal their broken relationship. After being attacked by a hostile extraterrestrial lifeform, their lives — not just their relationship — wind up at stake, as they fight with a humanoid beast to stop their abduction to an unknown and terrifying alien world.

Neill Blomkamp burst onto the scene with the impressive sci-fi movie District 9, which landed a Best Picture nomination. Since then, the director hasn’t quite lived up to his debut, following that film with muddled allegories like Elysium and Chappie. Perhaps that’s why he’s shifting gears a little bit by putting together a supernatural horror movie […]

Huh. Deadline is reporting that Neill Blomkamp, director of District 9, Chappie and Elysium, quietly made a supernatural horror flick over on the west coast of Canada this past Summer. According to the report Blomkamp was all set to shoot an action-thriller called The Inferno but, you know, plague happened and the large production was put on hold. Undeterred Blomkamp gathered a local crew and talent and ran around British Columbia, under on set Covid-protocals, shooting this mystery movie. Plot details are being kept under wraps on the project but we hear it is something the filmmaker had always wanted to make and is expected to be finished around spring next year. With so many people across the world forced to stay indoors due to the Coronavirus pandemic, demand for Netflix has surged.
Never before has the online streamer been so popular, and to keep its subscribers entertained, the Big N has today rolled out a slew of exciting additions to its lineup of content.
That means from May 15th, Netflix subscribers will be able to access season 6 of Madam Secretary, all three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and sci-fi gem District 9. The latter initially debuted back in 2009 as Neill Blomkamp’s feature film, who would later go on to helm Elysium and Chappie. Blomkamp was then tipped to helm Alien 5 – a direct sequel to the classic Aliens – but sadly, despite a collection of awesome concept art emerging onto the interwebs, said continuation never came to pass and is “unlikely” to happen, after all.

Taylor Kitsch (21 Bridges) is attached to star in Neill Blomkamp (District 9) sci-fi thriller Inferno for Stuart Ford’s Agc Studios.
Lone Survivor and Waco actor Kitsch will play a cop who is called to investigate a seemingly ordinary murder in the New Mexico desert. The arrival of the FBI confirms his suspicions that something bigger – perhaps extraterrestrial – is at play. The hunt for the killer puts him face-to-face with a humanoid beast who will stop at nothing to exterminate the one witness to the crime.
Production is due to get underway in early 2020. CAA also brokered the Agc financing deal and will co-represent domestic and Chinese rights.
Blomkamp, who followed-up acclaimed debut District 9 with sci-fi pics Elysium and Chappie, posted New Mexico imagery on his instagram account in August. Inferno would mark his first feature since 2015 movie Chappie. The director tweeted over the summer that he was off the RoboCop sequel.

It may have only been ten years since District 9’s box office success and Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture put Neill Blompkamp on Hollywood’s radar in a huge way, but already people are predicting that the filmmaker will struggle to ever reach those heights again after his follow-up features Elysium and Chappie suffered from the law of diminishing returns with both critics and at the box office.

We talk to Assassin's Creed Odyssey director Hugo Giard about final chapter of The Fate of Atlantis.
This week marked the end of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s current Dlc storyline, The Fate of Atlantis. Following "Fields of Elysium" and "Torment of Hades," "Judgment of Atlantis" is the final of the three-episode saga and wraps up the storylines built in the previous chapters, which revolve around the protagonist (either Cassandra or Alexios) as they explore Elysium and the Underworld (essentially Heaven and Hell) and work out the dilemmas of those in the afterlife. In "Judgment of Atlantis," our hero ventures into the legendary aquatic city, aiding denizens and making impossible decisions that could change the city forever.
Odyssey’s major post-launch content will likely end with "Judgment of Atlantis," though Ubisoft did announce the game’s educational Discovery Tour Mode and the community-driven Story Creator Mode at...

Best-selling author Jonathan Maberry’s visionary mind is coming to a TV screen near you. Production has begun on V Wars based on the novels and comics of the same name. The series will run for ten episodes and stream on Netflix.
V Wars centers around a virus outbreak that triggers a dormant gene in humans and turns five percent of the worlds population into vampires. Of course, this turns into a global epidemic pitting vampire against humans, and of course there is good and bad on both sides. The show will star Ian Somerhalder as Dr. Luther Swann, Adrian Holmes (Elysium) as Michael Fayne. Peter Outerbridge as Calix Niklos, and Jacky Lai (Silent Hill: Revelation) as Kaylee Vo.
Jonathan Maberry is a prolific writer and an all around nice guy. He has worked as an editor, comic book writer, teacher/lecturer, novelist, playwright. He is best known for the Joe Ledger Series,...

Exclusive: MGM is developing a new installment of RoboCop and has set District 9 director Neill Blomkamp to helm the picture, which is titled RoboCop Returns. The studio hopes to revive a franchise that began with the Paul Verhoeven-directed satirical sci-fi action thriller that Orion released in 1987. Original writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are producing and exec producing, respectively. Justin Rhodes, who co-wrote the Terminator film that Tim Miller is shooting, will rewrite the script that Neumeier and Miner wrote years ago as a planned sequel to Verhoeven’s hit, an installment that never happened. That duo is creatively involved in moving forward their creation for the first time since the original.
The original starred Peter Weller as a badly wounded cop on death’s doorstep who is turned into a cyborg law enforcement officer tasked with wiping out crime in an out of control Detroit, but who...
