MSNBC is launching a live event series, MSNBC Live, that will mark the return of Luke Russert.
He will serve as host and creative director of the events, which will include forums in Washington, D.C. and other locations across the country. The live events also will include some of the network’s top anchors and hosts.
Rebecca Kutler, senior VP of content strategy at MSNBC, will oversee the development and implementation of the live events, and Lauren Peikoff will serve as executive producer.
Russert worked for NBC News from 2008 to 2016, including hosting a regular show, The Briefing, for MSNBC.com. He recently authored the memoir Look for Me There, about his travels around the world and how he coped with the grief over the sudden loss of his father, Tim Russert. The Hollywood Reporter first reported on Russert’s return.

MSNBC wants a piece of the live events business, and it is bringing back a familiar face to lead its effort in the space.
MSNBC is launching a live events brand called “MSNBC Live” next year, combining live interviews and panel discussions, as well as forums and other events featuring MSNBC anchors and talent.
The cable news channel is bringing back Luke Russert, who served as a correspondent and anchor for NBC News and MSNBC from 2008-2016, to serve as the host and creative director of the event brand.
“At these events MSNBC regulars will be talking with some of America’s leading thinkers. It is our hope we can advance important dialogue and reach a measure of understanding as well as remember what makes America great — its unity in diversity and commitment to democratic ideals,” says Russert. “I want people to leave better informed and inspired to promote positive action.

CNN keeps feeding the mouths that bite it.
As Warner Bros. Discovery has orchestrated massive changes and cuts to the popular news giant, a stream of producers, anchors and executives have left — some of their own volition, and many of them not. But no matter the case, a growing number of these now-former CNN die-hards are being scooped up by rivals including MSNBC, ABC News and CBS News.
CBS News on Wednesday announced it had lined up Lisa Ling as a contributor. The veteran journalist spent eight years at CNN leading viewers through interesting issues as host of the documentary series, This Is Life,” which was cancelled amid a cutback of original programming that uses outside partners. ABC News on Wednesday announced that Brooke Bower, who had been managing editor of CNN Politics, was joining as executive producer of the Sunday politics show “This Week.”

Ana Cabrera, an up-and-coming daytime anchor at CNN, is expected to leave the network and join NBC News, according to three people familiar with the matter — the latest in a series of CNN personnel who have defected to the NBCUniversal news unit.
At present, Cabrera anchors the 1 p.m. hour on CNN, a move she made after working weekend anchor shifts and as a Denver correspondent for the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed outlet, which she joined in 2013. But she is expected to depart and, after waiting out months-long period during which she cannot compete with CNN, join NBC News in an as-yet-undisclosed capacity, these people indicated.
Spokespeople for both CNN and NBC News declined to comment.
There may be a natural roost for Cabrera. MSNBC has yet to install a permanent anchor in its 11 a.m. slot, a space that was previously inhabited by Craig Melvin.

Laura Jarrett, an up and coming correspondent at CNN is ready to fill big shoes at NBC News: She will take over coverage of the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Supreme Court previously handled by veteran Pete Williams.
Jarrett is slated to join NBC News in January as a senior legal correspondent, according to a memo from Rich Greenberg, who heads up the investigative unit for NBC News, and to whom Jarrett will report. Jarrett had been at CNN for six years, most recently as a co-anchor on the network’s early-morning program “Early Start.” She also served as a legal analyst for the Supreme Court’s decision overruling Roe v.
