Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has not given up her quest to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson, demanding he either “resign” or “be vacated” after ushering through legislation to send military aid to Ukraine on Saturday.
“Mike Johnson’s speakership is over. He needs to do the right thing to resign and allow us to move forward in a controlled process. If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated,” Greene told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.

Amid the U.S. House passing a bill this week that would ban TikTok, Bill Maher wasted no time Friday sharing his thoughts on the controversial matter.
To kick off the latest episode of HBO’s Real Time, the host joked during his monologue, “China, you know what, you can manufacture everything else that we use, but keeping our kids stupid, that’s our job.”
The bill, which passed by a vote of 352-65 in the House, would lead to a nationwide ban of the popular video app if its China-based owner, ByteDance, doesn’t sell it. Lawmakers have expressed concerns that the company’s current ownership structure is a national security threat. President Joe Biden has said if Congress passes the measure, he will sign it, however, the bill has to pass the Senate first.
Later on Real Time, during his discussion with Republican Rep. Nancy Mace and Democratic Rep.

Bill Maher tapes his show, which means news that breaks on Friday is usually not mentioned.
Such was the case on Friday’s Real Time, as earlier in the day, stories broke that Maher has fired his longtime agents at CAA, allegedly over not being invited to agency head Bryan Lourd’s A-list house party during Oscars week.
Ironically, Maher’s “New Rules” editorial was about the trend toward whining about the small stuff in life.
“Being obsessed with your mental heath is bad for your mental heath,” he proclaimed. He tied it to why President Joe Biden’s approval rating is so low “when things are pretty good.” He cited the modern blessings of next day shopping, stuffed crust pizza, and porn on your phone. So “cheer the f**k up,” he advised.
“Yes, you are on the spectrum,” Maher said. “So’s everyone alive. That’s why they call it a spectrum.

On Thursday, fresh off a major policy victory, organizers and activists from Climate Defiance confronted Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan at an event at a country club in his home town of Wellesley, Massachusetts. Moynihan was there to participate in a fireside chat about the economy and the finance industry. A Rolling Stone reporter was there to document the action.
As soon as Moynihan started speaking, he was surrounded by protesters from the climate group. An activist loudly demanded that the CEO commit to stop financing fossil fuels; behind him,...

The latest U.S. lawmaker to interact with politically-minded creators is Ro Khanna. The U.S. Congressman (D-ca) hosted a live stream that took place outside the White House and included input from streamers like Vaush and Emma Vigeland.
The three-hour stream ranged across hot-button issues like climate change, affordable housing, and student debt. The influencers joined Khanna in groups, with Vaush (real name Ian Kochinski) and Vigeland helping the Congressman kick off his broadcast.
The creators who linked up with Khanna are some of the strongest political voices on platforms like Twitch. Vaush has made headlines thanks to the lively debates he’s engaged in on social media. According to The Washington Post, another creator who met with Khanna in D.C. is Clara “Keffals” Sorrenti, who has used her platform to fight back against transphobic trolls.

Of the thousands of members of Congress who have served throughout history, few will be remembered, with rare exceptions. Those who become presidents, or Speaker of the House, or have buildings named after them are less likely to be forgotten. Then there are those whose policy stands solidify their legacies. When California Representative Barbara Lee became the lone member of Congress to vote against the war in Iraq in 2001, she became a target of nonstop hate mail and death threats. Now, decades later, as she strives to become just the third Black woman in American history elected to the United States Senate, her willingness to take a stand in the face of such adversity years ago has emerged as a political asset, landing her high-profile endorsements from colleagues like Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.). In the latest THR “Power Watch” column, Lee — who was the subject of the 2020 Starz documentary Barbara...

Washington, Aug 24 (Ians) From Vice President Kamala Harris to Ambassador Eric Garcetti, top American leaders congratulated India for the historic touchdown of Chandrayaan-3 on the southern polar region of the moon, calling it an ‘incredible feat’.
“Congratulations to India for the historic landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the southern polar region of the moon,” Indian-American Kamala Harris wrote on X on Thursday as India became the fourth country to achieve the feat after the US, China, and the erstwhile Soviet Union.
“It’s an incredible feat for all the scientists and engineers involved. We are proud to partner with you on this mission and space exploration more broadly,” Harris said.
Last month, India signed the three-year-old Artemis Accords, a US-led international partnership on planetary exploration and research.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca) was briefly hospitalized on Tuesday after a fall.
A spokesperson for the 90-year-old lawmaker said in a statement, “Senator Feinstein briefly went to the hospital yesterday afternoon as a precaution after a minor fall in her home. All of her scans were clear and she returned home.” TMZ first reported the news, but her office said that their original report was inaccurate in that she is not currently hospitalized.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that he spoke to Feinstein on Wednesday morning and “she said she suffered no injuries and briefly went to the hospital as a precaution. I’m glad she is back home now and is doing well.”
Feinstein was diagnosed with shingles earlier this year, something that kept her from Capitol Hill for nearly three months as she recovered. Her health has been the subject of intense speculation among reporters and Capitol Hill staffers,...

New Delhi, July 22 (Ians) The rapid rise of Indian-Americans from politics to administration, entrepreneurship to technology, medicine to hospitality, science to academia has put the global spotlight like never before on the high-achieving four million-plus strong diaspora.
The community happens to be the most educated with the highest median income in the US, with an average household earning of $123,700 — making them the top earners in the US among other Asians in the country.
As the profile of the Indian American community — now the second-largest immigrant group in the US — has grown, so too has its economic, political, and social influence, according to a recent Carnegie Endowment study.
In 2010, only 18 per cent of Americans saw India as “very important” to the United States, according to The Chicago Council survey.
Now, India is perceived by Americans as their seventh favourite nation in the world, with 70 per cent of people viewing India favourably in 2023, says a Gallup survey.

Billy Ray and Todd Garner are back for Week 6 of the Writers Guild standoff on Deadline’s Strike Talk podcast. Click below to listen.
This week, our hosts look at what the seismic developments of the past week will mean. Hailing it as groundbreaking, the Directors Guild agreed tentatively to a deal, and will bring it to membership shortly. At the same time, about 48% of SAG-AFTRA members cast votes on whether to authorize an actors strike if a deal isn’t struck the month’s end, and an overwhelming 97.91% of those voting gave the guild a strike authorization. Armed with that resolve, the guild has just began negotiating with the AMPTP, while there’s still no progress on getting back to the table with the writers.
The WGA picket line presence is still being felt: While DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter saw her guild make a tentative deal, the series...

While representing Silicon Valley’s 17th congressional district, Democratic congressman Ro Khanna has pulled off a unique political balancing act. He’s successfully positioned himself as a progressive capitalist, supported by billionaires in Big Tech while serving as a co-chair of Bernie Sanders’ last presidential campaign, which pilloried the billionaire class. But Khanna sees bringing disparate groups and ideas together as the key to success in politics and life.
After getting a law degree from Yale, Khanna interned for former President Jimmy Carter and former Vice President Al Gore, as well as volunteered for one of President Barack Obama’s early campaigns. He eventually served in the Obama administration before heading into private practice at a high-profile Silicon Valley law firm. He lectured at Stanford, then launched his own political career, running unsuccessfully for Congress once, before winning on his second try. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Khanna discusses his Hollywood staples,...

As striking writers gathered Wednesday afternoon outside Netflix’s Manhattan headquarters, they were greeted by a visitor from what might be considered enemy territory: U.S. Rep. Ro Khanna, a Democratic congressman whose 17th district sits in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley.
Khanna, here as an ally, gave a rousing speech through a bullhorn to demonstrators as their protest got underway on the second day of the WGA strike. “Many of us in Congress will be standing with you in your just fight,” he said to cheers.
Before then, Khanna spoke with Deadline about the disruptions caused by technologies, such as streaming and artificial intelligence, that have emerged from the computational laboratories in his home district.
“Writers are the heart and soul of the entertainment that we watch,” he said, adding that the models for compensating them “have changed because of the technology in my district in Silicon Valley.

Dianne Feinstein, the 89-year-old Democratic senator from California who has been mulling whether to run for another term in 2024, announced on Tuesday that she will, in fact, not be doing that.
“I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends,” Feinstein wrote in a statement. “Even with a divided Congress, we can still pass bills that will improve lives. Each of us was sent here to solve problems.

Rep. Katie Porter (D-ca) announced on Tuesday that she is running for the U.S. Senate in 2024.

Dianne Feinstein (D-ca). Feinstein, 89, who has served in the Senate since 1992, has not yet revealed her plans, but there has been widespread speculation that she will not run again.

San Francisco, Dec 3 (Ians) Praising Indian-origin Democrat Ro Khanna, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has released internal ‘Twitter Files’ that revealed how the micro-blogging platform took orders from the US President Joe Biden’s team to suppress the censorship of his son Hunter Biden’s laptop story, published by the New York Times during the 2020 US presidential elections.
Musk tweeted a link to the account of independent journalist and author Matt Taibbi, who posted a series of tweets revealing the Twitter Files.
“On October 14, 2020, the New York Post published ‘Biden Secret Emails’, an expose based on the contents of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop,” Taibbi posted late on Friday.
He claimed that Twitter took “extraordinary steps to suppress the story,” removing links and posting warnings that it may be unsafe.
“They even blocked its transmission via direct message, a tool hitherto reserved for extreme cases, e.g. child pornography,” Taibbi posted.

The White House was said to be “giddy and gleeful” in the wake of Election Night’s surprisingly strong showing by Democrats. But the administration has nothing on the mood of Bill Maher, as exhibited on Friday’s Real Time.
A week after a downbeat Maher was ready to throw shovels of dirt on America while anticipating its demise at Republican hands, the comedian returned in a jubliant mood. “I haven’t had a text from Joe Biden in three days,” he said in his warmup. “I feel like he’s ghosted me.”
Maher seemed amazed at the turn in fortunes, noting that Pennsylvania may have been the biggest surprise. That’s the state where the polished Dr. Mehmet Oz “lost to a guy who dresses like the airline lost his luggage.”
Noting that ex-President Donald Trump is suffering a backlash, with many now touting the 2024 prospects of Florida Gov.

You are allowed to disagree, Bill Maher argued during his Friday Real Time on HBO. And he brought up two instances of news this week from the world of television to underline his point.
Maher talked about Whoopi Goldberg’s crisis and suspension from The View because of her analysis of what the Holocaust was really about. Maher, who has been targeted by Goldberg in the past, said he was not in favor of her cancellation, “as much as I disagree with her crazy statements.”
He pointed out Goldberg’s show is called The View, emphasis on “The.” That’s the problem in America,” he said. “There is one true opinion, and everyone else can go sit in the corner.”

Reporters on Capitol Hill on Wednesday buzzed over the sightings in Senate hallways of Paris Hilton, the reality star who met with lawmakers to advocate for protections for youth in congregate care facilities.
At a press conference just outside the Capitol, Hilton said, “Today I come here not as Paris, but as a survivor.”
“For 20 years I couldn’t sleep at night, as memories of physical violence, feeling of loneliness, the loss of years rushed through my mind when I shut my eyes.”
“This was not just insomnia. It was trauma,” she said.
Hilton said that when she was a teenager, “I woke up to two large men in my bedroom,” asking her if she “wanted to go the easy way or the hard way.”
She said that she thought she was being kidnapped, but she was physically dragged out of her house and being sent to a residential care facility,...

In many ways, Sen. Joe Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as his vice president is historic: She is the first woman of color on a major party ticket, as well as the first female vice-presidential Democratic pick in more than three decades. Yet many on the left were not overly pleased with the pick, pointing to Harris’s somewhat regressive record when she was district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California. Among these critics were sex workers’ rights advocates, who have been vocal about Harris’s...

If you want to meet a Republican politician who’s the ultimate poster boy for shameless apple-polishing — the kind of eager conservative loyalist who would crawl across broken glass to shine Donald Trump’s shoes — you should watch “The Swamp,” the new HBO documentary, and get a load of Matt Gaetz, a congressman from Florida who got swept into the U.S. House of Representatives by the Trump tidal wave.
Gaetz is a real piece of work. At 38, he’s got the baby-faced, handsome-but-not-too-dashing, smile-by-committee looks and easy-talking facility of a jock bro who was popular in high school and is now a mid-level bank manager. If you had to describe what his job is, the most accurate thing to say might be that Gaetz is a congressman who plays a congressman on TV. With his Chris O’Donnell immaculateness, he’s a constant presence on Fox News and CNN, mouthing his talking points,...

Washington — Andrew Yang has dropped out of the Democratic presidential primary, but his signature plan to give every American adult a $1,000 a month has never been more popular.
With the novel coronavirus likely to plunge the economy into a recession and decimate the livelihoods of people who own small businesses or work in jobs without a guaranteed salary, lawmakers across the political spectrum have come out in favor of direct cash payments as a response to the pandemic. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-n.Y.) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hi) as well as Sen.

In this week’s episode of our Useful Idiots podcast, hosts Matt Taibbi and Katie Halper are joined by Congressman Ro Khanna of California, who also serves as a national co-chair of Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign. They discuss the DNC’s role in Iowa caucus debacle, and the prospects for New Hampshire and beyond (note: this episode was taped before the New Hampshire primary).
Khanna, who unseated an eight-term incumbent Democrat for his seat in 2016, sits on the House Armed Service Committee, Budget Committee, and Oversight Committee. He has made...

When a group of bills known as Sesta/Fosta was introduced in early 2018, it garnered widespread bipartisan support. The bills were intended to curb online sex trafficking, a goal that was easy for lawmakers to get behind, and one that few wanted to be seen actively opposing. One of the few dissenting votes was from Rep. Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California. In addition to his broader concerns about how Sesta/Fosta could potentially chip away at free speech on the internet, he had received calls from sex workers in...

Stephon Clark lived and died in Sacramento. When the 22-year-old father of two was shot and killed by local cops after a foot chase in the spring of 2018, it provoked the largest national uproar over a police killing of an unarmed black man since the groundswell of protests that began with the death of Michael Brown and the Ferguson uprising five years ago this week. The Sacramento officers who took Clark’s life were not charged with any crime.
It didn’t happen in Rep. Ro Khanna’s district, but it was close enough.

Robert Mueller wrote a scathing letter to Attorney General Bill Barr in late March, blasting Barr’s infamous four-page summary to Congress because it did “not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of the special counsel’s findings. That is the takeaway from a bombshell report published Tuesday evening in the Washington Post.
Mueller’s letter, sent days after Barr’s cursory briefing of March 24th, blamed Barr’s communique for spurring “public confusion about critical aspects of the results of our investigation” into the Trump campaign’s contacts...

In his latest bid to win over the hearts and minds of the left leading up to his 2020 presidential campaign, Senator Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) has rolled out a new federal marijuana legalization bill.
On Thursday, Booker and Representatives Barbara Lee (D-ca) and Ro Khanna (D-ca) introduced the Marijuana Justice Act, which seeks to remove marijuana from the list of controlled substances, thus legalizing it on the federal level.
In addition to federal legalization, the bill would retroactively expunge the criminal records of those who had been charged with marijuana...

Michael Cohen’s testimony Wednesday was by turns explosive and chilling, as the president’s former fixer detailed crimes he committed to help put Trump into office, and warned the world, in his closing statement, that Trump might not leave the White House without a fight: “I fear that if he loses the election in 2020,” Cohen said, “that there will never be a peaceful transition of power.”
Cohen’s full-day testimony before the House Oversight Committee was tough on the president, whom Cohen described as a “racist,” a “con man,...

This new piece of legislation sounds audacious at first. It tells companies like Amazon: if you pay your workers so poorly that they have to go on food stamps, the government is going to hit you with a 100 percent tax on such subsidies.
Sponsored by Bernie Sanders and California House Democrat Ro Khanna, the bill is called the Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies Act, or Stop Bezos Act.
Initially, Sanders was thrashed in the press for his “ham-fisted” proposal.
“In Bernie Sanders vs. Jeff Bezos, Only Workers Lose,...

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, a 19-year-old gunman walked onto the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, armed with what police say was a military-style semi-automatic rifle and countless magazines — and killed at least 17 people. He was a troubled man who had shown repeated signs of being unstable and yet was able to legally obtain a semi-automatic rifle capaable of causing unimaginable carnage.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott called the attack “pure evil” and vowed to have a real conversation about sensible gun legislation, saying, “The violence has to stop. We cannot lose another child in this country to gun violence in a school.
