We were supposed to have received James Wan’s new horror movie Malignant back in August, but that was in the Before Times when death wasn’t carried on the breeze after being coughed out of an infected lung. Now, it’s set for release this year on HBO Max, and accordingly has been given a rating by the MPAA.
Something along these lines was already expected, but it’s now been officially stated that the film will be rated R for “strong horror violence, gruesome images, and for language.” Sounds good to me.
Rather refreshingly, specific details about the project are hard to come by. It was first assumed, not unreasonably, to be an adaptation of Wan’s 4-issue limited comic book series Malignant Man, which was co-written with Fall of Cthulhu’s Michael Alan Nelson and features a terminal cancer patient first discovering his tumor is a supernatural...

James Wan is returning to the world of horror before helming Aquaman 2 with Malignant.
James Wan's tenth feature film as director is now in production. Malignant has been described as a giallo, and stars Maddie Hasson, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Abel, George Young, Michole Briana White, and Jacqueline McKenzie.
It was confirmed that Wan would work on Malignant back in August when it was still an as-yet-untitled horror project. The film should act as a nice palate cleanser before he begins the long task of bringing Aquaman 2 to the screen for Warner Bros, and a late-2020 release date for the new celluloid scream will likely be confirmed in time.
Wan has already started three successful horror franchises in Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring - could this be the first in a new series of giallo films where Wan and others can follow in the footsteps of horror masters like Dario Argento,...

Hexed #1
Story by Michael Alan Nelson Art by Dan Mora Color by Gabriel Cassata Letters by Ed Dukeshire Cover by Emma Rios, Dan Mora Publisher: Boom! Studios
It’s hard to put on finger on what works and doesn’t work in Michael Alan Nelson and Dan Mora’s first issue of their new series Hexed. It is a follow up to Nelson and Emma Rios’ 2009 miniseries of the same name, but with it being a new first issue, one would assume that this would be a good jumping on point. Unfortunately the new Hexed #1 is not very new reader friendly.
The issue begins with a break in at an art museum, but the thieves in Splinter Cell gear run into the series’ protagonist Luci Jenifer Inacio Das Neves, Lucifer for short. She is gifted in the mystic arts and is working to stop magical objects from falling into the wrong hands.

While he’s still slogging away on the delayed shoot of Fast & Furious 7, The Conjuring director James Wan has one eye on potential future gigs. He’s now set up an idea, based on the Malignant Man graphic novel series he created, over at 20th Century Fox.Malignant Man is a weird superhero origin story focusing on a bloke named Alan Gates. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, he begins to accept the cards that fate has dealt him, only to learn that his tumour is not what he thinks at all. It’s actually a mysterious, supernatural parasite that grants him a new lease on life and a set of otherworldly powers to boot. Yet with his new powers come – you guessed it! – fresh responsibilities, because he’ll have to put his abilities to use battling an evil army out to destroy society.Wan came up with the original concept for the graphic novel,...

Peter Facinelli knows a thing or two about genetically and supernaturally gifted families after six years of leading the Cullen clan in The Twilight Saga. Now Facinelli is focusing on a new bad-ass brood with Protocol: Orphans, a graphic novel he created with writer Michael Alan Nelson, illustrator Mariano Navarro and ... Jeff Probst?
"To be honest, I was inspired by Survivor," Facinelli told ETonline. "I was watching Survivor and wondering why I was so addicted to it. I realized I liked it so much because it's about a group of strong-thinking people that were thrown together and have to work together as a group. That idea inspired me to create this comic about a bunch of highly trained orphans that, to save the world, have to work together as a family. A big dysfunctional family."
