Sony’s Spider-Man Universe had a good idea at the start: bring together key characters from the Spiderverse. But they forgot something important: Spider-Man himself. Despite a few movies already, the universe hasn’t been received well, except for the ‘Venom’ series, which is ending this October.
The latest disappointment was ‘Madame Web.’ This December, we’re getting a movie about one of Spider-Man’s top villains, Kraven the Hunter. Let’s see what we know about it.
The movie will be rated “R”
We don’t have much info on the movie’s plot, but the villain was supposed to be in it earlier. Execs held off because his stories are pretty intense for older viewers. The movie will likely be rated “R,” but we’re still unsure which story it’ll use. In August 2018, Richard Wenk was hired to write the script, following his success with ‘The Equalizer 2.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe started with the best intentions, it was supposed to gather the most important supporting characters from the Spiderverse, but they forgot one important thing, Spider-Man himself.
Despite, by now, having several installments, the cinematic universe wasn’t all that well-received with the exception of the ‘Venom’ franchise, which is scheduled to get its last installment this October. The latest flop in the Ssu was ‘Madame Web,’ and this December we’re bound to get a story centered around one of the most notable Spider-Man villains, Kraven the Hunter, so let’s see what we know about the movie.
‘Kraven the Hunter’ will be a darker story
Not much is known about the overall plot of the movie, except that the villain was supposed to be featured even earlier but the execs avoided him due to having pretty brutal stories aimed at more mature audiences. The upcoming...

Kraven the Hunter is seeking new hunting grounds, with the Aaron Taylor-Johnson starrer taking a release date just vacated by The Karate Kid.
On Friday evening, Sony moved the villain-centric Kraven the Hunter to the prime winter spot of Dec. 13, 2024 (back from Aug. 30, 2024). Kraven steps into a date that was occupied by fellow Sony pic The Karate Kid, a crossover event movie starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. Karate Kid now moves to May 30, 2025.
The move comes after the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, the Netflix spinoff starring Machio as his original Karate Kid movie character Daniel Larusso, was delayed due to last year’s actors strike. Sony pushed the new Karate Kid to allow it to follow Cobra Kai‘s final season, with the summer date also seen as friendly for the all-ages audience its intended for. A central performance from Levi Miller isn’t enough to lift a run-of-the-mill war film that struggles to maintain dramatic interest
Get our weekend culture and lifestyle email
Watching Before Dawn, it is quickly obvious that this first world war drama didn’t have a budget big enough to stage blockbuster scale battlefield recreations – instead, there’s plenty of scenes following characters inside trenches, the camera poised below ground level. Director Jordan Prince-Wright exploits the restricted spatiality of these settings, often keeping shots tight and human-oriented, with scant locational details. The cover of night also helps. It reportedly cost $900,000 in earthworks to dig the trenches, transforming farmland in Esperance, Western Australia, into environments that can plausibly – at a push – resemble terrain in war-torn Europe.
The marketing materials for Before Dawn do a good job impersonating a bells-and-whistles production but the film itself is another matter: there were times, particularly early on,...

The hunt is officially on, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson is going on a wild rampage in the latest trailer for Kraven the Hunter.
The footage, released Monday, shows a glimpse at how Taylor-Johnson’s Sergei Kravinoff became the Kraven. While on a safari to hunt lions with his father (Russell Crowe), a crime lord and hunter, Sergei is attacked by a lion after failing to shoot it. Having been seen as weak in his father’s eyes, he’s left for dead, but everything changes when the lion’s bite seems to give him superpowers.
“I stared death in the face, and for the first time, I saw my true self,” Taylor-Johnson’s Spider-Man villain can be heard saying in the trailer for the upcoming Sony film.
As Sergei grows up, he begins his personal hunt for the bad guys, viciously going after each one. At one point he says, “My...

Another year, another CinemaCon! /Film's own Ben Pearson is attending the yearly film showcase in Las Vegas, and has the first word on some really cool exclusive trailers and footage presentations—including the upcoming Spider-Man villain spin-off "Kraven The Hunter." CinemaCon debuted some clips from the film which comes out in the fall, and needless to say, there is a lot to discuss.
The movie is set to be the fourth installment in Sony's Spider-Man cinematic universe — yes, here's another one to remember — after their other villain films "Venom," "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," and 2022's favorite meme "Morbius." It's definitely interesting to see them branching out so hard into the villain canon, and it'll be fun to see where this one goes. The new "Kraven" film is directed by J.C. Chandor and written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk.

Disney's latest live-action riff on a classic is "Peter Pan & Wendy," a new adaptation of the classic "Peter Pan" story. Ever since first taking center stage in J.M. Barrie's 1904 stage play, Peter Pan and the magical land of Neverland have captured imaginations all over the world. The whimsical story with a hint of darkness has inspired plenty of movies, plays, and books over the years, each with a slightly different take on the Boy Who Never Grew Up. Here's a brief look back at all of the notable movie adaptations and how they each made the Neverland mythos their own.
"Peter Pan" (1924)
The first authorized movie adaptation of "Peter Pan" was this silent film version, starring Betty Bronson as Peter Pan, Ernest Torrence as Captain Hook, Mary Brian as Wendy Darling, and Virginia Brown Faire as Tinker Bell. J.M. Barrie personally worked on a screenplay for this one,...

Joe Wright's 2015 film, "Pan," an anachronistic and colorful origin story for Peter Pan, sounded like a good idea on paper. Reimagined origin stories were very much in vogue then throughout popular culture, and the tale of how an immortal elven boy came to Neverland only to become rivals with a one-handed pirate is certainly ripe for exploration. Also, Wright was a hot commodity, having directed a Best Picture Oscar nominee ("Atonement"), a strange action film ("Hanna"), and a high-profile literary adaptation ("Anna Karenina"). Additionally, Wright managed to secure an impressive cast that included Rooney Mara, Cara Delevigne, and Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard the Pirate. Levi Miller played Peter Pan, and Garrett Hedlund played an ally to Pan in the form of the young, sexy, two-handed James Hook, a ship's captain destined to live up to his name.
"Pan" was made for a hefty 150 million. On its opening weekend, it made a rather dinky 15 million.

Since its launch in 2019, a pillar of Disney+ has been revisiting and building upon stories from across the Walt Disney Company's brands. Whether that's traveling deeper into a galaxy far, far away with new "Star Wars" shows, uncovering uncharted corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or catching up with fan-favorite characters from beloved shows and movies like "The Santa Clause," "Night at the Museum," or "Enchanted," the House of Mouse's streaming platform continues to offer interesting and exciting ways to revitalize their biggest franchises. Although, the service also creates an avenue to revitalize lesser-known or forgotten properties from Disney's past. With their 100th anniversary just around the corner, that's likely to happen a lot more in 2023. But even before the new year is upon us, the company has announced that they're taking another trip back to Witch Mountain.

With the arrival of December comes embracing the Christmas horror subgenre. When it's good, it's good. When it's bad, you still can't turn away. There's just something about the holidays going absolutely wrong that serves as both nightmare fuel and brilliant catharsis depending on the execution. It's why holiday horror film classics like "Black Christmas" and "Gremlins" still reign supreme on many of the Best Christmas horror lists to this day.
In the case of Chris Peckover's "Better Watch Out," the Australian Christmas horror film is more than good, with its horrific subtext concerning toxic masculinity aging better with time. The film follows 17-year-old Ashley (Olivia DeJonge) who has been hired to babysit the 12-year-old boy you'll absolutely despise by the film's end, Luke (Levi Miller). Luke has a crush on Ashley and ropes his best friend into a misguided faux home-invasion plan to attempt to seduce the teen.

Christmas horror movies are some of the most fun you can have during the holidays. There's something thrilling about combining the comfort of a holiday movie with the violent chaos of horror, to make a movie all about feeling unsafe during a time when you're supposed to feel the safest. The juxtaposition of blood and snow, plus all the Christmas lights make for delightfully colorful movies. It also helps that Christmas horror movies work on two separate holidays; You can add them to your October And December watchlists.
One of the best horror Christmas movies of the past few years is Chris Peckover's "Better Watch Out." The Australian horror movie is an R-rated riff on "Home Alone" and "Funny Games." It follows Ashley (Olivia DeJonge), a 17-year-old babysitting precocious 12-year-old Luke (Levi Miller) at Christmas time. After Luke, who has romantic feelings for Ashley, fails to seduce her, the...

When "Stranger Things" launched in 2016, most of its cast were virtual unknowns. Aside from veteran stars like Winona Ryder, the show was the first leading role for many of its cast members, especially the younger kids. Part of what made the show work so well was the fact that all those young kids were supremely-talented. The Netflix hit asks a lot from its stars — lots of action, lots of emotion — and every member of the ever-growing ensemble is up to the task, which makes for a fun watch.
It's also a useful launching pad for further stardom. The series tends to take breaks between seasons — three years passed between Seasons 3 and 4 — leaving the cast free to pursue other acting opportunities. This raises their profiles, providing them a solid base from which to hopefully continue their careers after "Stranger Things" comes to an end with its fifth season. Unsurprisingly, a lot...

Of all the jobs depicted in horror movies that are hazardous to your well-being, babysitting ranks high among the most dangerous. The low hourly rate doesn’t compensate for the utter terror a babysitter will endure from masked intruders or worse.
Halloween Ends opens with a life-altering tragedy of babysitting gone wrong, a shocking twist on the franchise’s babysitting origins. It makes for another fright-filled reminder of the high-risk, low-reward job in the world of horror movies.
This week we’re saluting the babysitter with a look back at ten of the worst babysitting gigs in horror movies. There’s not enough money in the world to make these gigs worth it…

Streamline brings us a captivating exploration of self-destruction; Jason Isaacs and Levi Miller team up in this emotionally charged tale of a young boy on the verge of sporting greatness only for his just released from prison father to disturb his equilibrium.
Just as our main character is, we are submerged into the idyllic setting of nature. Grey and green tones consume the screen in a dreamy manner only to be immediately interrupted by the familiar sound of an Apple alarm tone. The harsh reality of a 15-year-old boy trying to make it as a pro swimmer; non-stop early mornings come rain or shine, then a full day of school. The familiar sight of cupping bruises down his back and a toned physique insinuates the fact this boy is dedicated yet; it seems rest is in order before some life changing trails if he is going to fight his body’s state of fatigue.

This first-time director’s tale is about an Australian kid heading for the Olympic trials who also has to deal with violent family
It’s a generic title, and this brooding Australian indie sports drama itself feels a bit generic: you’ll probably guess the ending seven minutes into the movie. Still, it’s well-acted, particularly by Levi Miller who plays 15-year-old swimming prodigy Benjamin, known to everyone as “Boy” – a transcendent athlete gifted with Michael Phelps levels of talent. Miller impressively looks the part: strong legs, broad back, shoulders as wide as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. What’s more, he manages to bring a spark of personality to a character who for chunks of the movie is a super-focused obsessive swimming machine.
The film begins four months before the Olympics trials. Scouts from an elite sports institute in Brisbane are sniffing around; but then Boy’s dad Rob (Jason Isaacs...

Arclight Films has boarded to handle worldwide distribution rights with Gracie Otto (The Last Impresario) directing.
In the rowdy and rambunctious musical comedy, Red (played by Boylan) is at a crossroads in her life. A vivacious and hilarious redhaired woman grappling with high expectations and low self-esteem, she pours herself a cup of ambition and trades her 9 to 5 career in real estate for a life under the spotlight as a Dolly Parton impersonator.

Arclight Films is launching international sales on the horror-thriller “The Devil to Pay,” starring Danielle Deadwyler, Catherine Dyer and Jayson Warner Smith.
Arclight chairman Gary Hamilton made the announcement Monday, coinciding with the launch of the online American Film Market.

Lane Skye and Ruckus Skye wrote and directed the film, and produced alongside Deadwyler, Martin L. Kelley, Allison Maier and Gabriel Olson.
“Danielle is a formidable talent, leading this gripping tale of familial defense through its pulse-racing twists and turns, as excellently plotted by Lane and Ruckus,” said Hamilton. “Our buyers have shown a consistent appetite for this kind of cerebral, elevated horror-thriller that both entertains and enlightens.
