Twenty-three year old Elijah McClain was stopped by police while walking home from a convenience store in Aurora, Colorado, on Aug. 24, 2019. Someone had called 911 and said he was wearing a ski mask and looked “sketchy.” When officers arrived, they pulled him to the ground and placed McClain in a carotid hold, which restricts blood flow to the brain to render an individual unconscious. When paramedics arrived, McClain was injected with 500 milligrams of ketamine to sedate him. On the ambulance ride, he suffered a heart attack, and died a few days later.

Workers strained their eyes to decipher ballot designations that voting machines had already tabulated as the hand count dragged on. Some officials on the Spalding County Board of Elections and Registration in Georgia didn’t trust the machines, so they’d initiated automatic hand recounts of all elections, and at the end of the third day of counting, Nov. 14, 2023, the workers had found what was to be expected: The counts by machine were the same as counts made by hand. The hand count was completely unnecessary, but the results had added up just fine,...

Fans of the Power franchise are losing Ghost again — but this time, it’s the series.
Starz has canceled Power Book II: Ghost, with the show’s fourth season to serve as its last. It will be broken into two parts, premiering June 7 and September 6. Watch the teaser above.
The move was prefaced by Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch this week when he revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive.
Using the Power franchise as an example, he said: “You look at the [Power] map and say, ‘Ok, if I take one of those characters out and spin one of those out, I can bring that on to replace the Power show at half the cost.’ Now I’m putting a lot of money right to the bottom line. And I’m really not losing anything in terms of acquisition costs and subscriber viewership,...

ABC News has settled its sexual harassment lawsuit connected to its former “Good Morning America” producer Michael Korn. Kirstyn Crawford, an ex-abc News producer, who filed the suit against Corn and the network back in August, accused the company of neglecting the allegations.
The terms haven’t been revealed, but the case was settled on Friday in New York State court, and it was moved for dismissal “with prejudice,” which means it can no longer be refiled against the network or Corn, according to a court filing obtained by TheWrap.
Corn, who abruptly exited ABC in April, was named president of news for Nexstar’s NewsNation in May.
In a statement, ABC News thanked Crawford for coming forward.

Former Good Morning America producer Kirstyn Crawford has settled a legal battle against ABC News, which she accused of sweeping under the rug multiple sexual harassment allegations against her then-boss and ex-senior news executive Michael Corn.
A stipulation was filed on Friday in New York state court moving for dismissal of the case “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be refiled, against ABC and Corn, who allegedly assaulted Crawford during a 2015 work trip to Los Angeles for the Academy Awards. Lawyers for Crawford, ABC and Corn signed the document. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
In a statement, an ABC News spokesperson thanked Crawford “for courageously speaking out about her experience at ABC News.” The rep added, “Ms. Crawford thanks ABC News for its prompt response to her formal complaint in 2021.”

Sza has shared a new music video for “Snooze,” which portrays a “multiverse” of romantic relationships with Justin Bieber, actors Woody McClain (Power Book II: Ghost) and Young Mazino (Beef), and hitmaker Benny Blanco.
Directed by Bradley J. Calder, the clip features our previous cover star falling in and out of love with her co-stars in the video. In the opening scene, the Tde singer goes on a picnic with Bieber before they head over to her bedroom to share a joint. Then, we get a glimpse at her romances with McClain and Mazino. The former is set in a darkly lit gym, while the latter takes place on a farm, where they ride a horse and an Atv. Meanwhile, Blanco eats french fries off her butt.
Things really get weird when Sza seems to find happiness with a robot. Toward the end of the video, we get a preview of an unreleased track.

Sidney Lumet’s Serpico is an exemplar of a certain brand of character-based social realism that Hollywood excelled at in the 1970s, as well as an essential time capsule of New York City during the same period. Eschewing the backstory of detective Frank Serpico (Al Pacino) and keeping things firmly anchored in his time with the NYPD, the film builds character less by regurgitating facts and events than through gritty verisimilitude. This enlivens the clashes that arise from Frank’s offbeat humor, counterculture-friendly fashion sense, and unwavering morality as he butts heads with institutional powers that value conformity and blind allegiance above all else.
The conflicts that Frank finds himself involved in begin small, like when he refuses the offer for free creamed chicken at a local diner and instead orders a roast beef sandwich, much to the chagrin of both the owner and Frank’s partner (Al Henderson), who...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 4 Episode 13 “Open.”] It was in Season 2 that Grace (Sierra McClain), thanks to a call her husband Judd (Jim Parrack) was on, learned her father cheated on her mother. It’s now in Season 4 of 9-1-1: Lone Star that the family actually talks about it. And since this is a drama, it of course all comes out in the worst way possible. And it’s in the hospital that Grace discovers her dad told her mom everything. But now, they can start healing. McClain takes us inside this episode and teases what’s ahead. Two takeaways are we are not worthy of Sierra McClain, and Owen has one of the absolute worst love lives ever.
Given the mixed feelings about the Nazi biker terrorist storyline at the forefront of the season, Owen learning by the end of 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 4 Episode 13 that his girlfriend could have murdered her husband to be with him is a bold and potentially polarizing choice.
But the hour also warmed the cockles of our hearts by briefly reuniting the McClain sisters onscreen to sing angelically as our beloved Grace finally had a more evolved arc this season.
We kicked the hour off with a wild emergency call, and those are among the things that one misses the most this season. It's been light on the calls, but they're nothing short of entertaining when we get them.

Finally, we're getting some Grace content, you guys!
Grace Ryder is really the heart of the series, and it's been long overdue for the season to give her a meaty storyline or at least pick up one from her past.
And thankfully, 9-1-1 Lone Star Season 4 Episode 13 will deliver on that as we check back in with Grace's family, including her parents and previously unseen sisters.
Much of 9-1-1 Lone Star Season 4 has scaled back on the emergencies and the calls that the teams have been dispatched to in favor of providing us with more personal arcs and insight into the various characters off the job as much as on it.
It's been a polarizing decision with mixed results, but no one can deny how great it is when they've taken time to delve deeper into characters, especially those of whom we haven't learned much about over the years.

She'll be there for you. Bonnie Somerville, best known for playing Mona throughout the eighth season of "Friends," just tied the knot in the Santa Susana Mountains. On April 8, the actor married creative director Dave McClain - the person she says made her believe in true love. According to People, the ceremony took place at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in California, with Somerville's mom, Maureen, walking her down the aisle.
"I never believed in soulmates until I met Dave," Somerville told People. "I love everything about him." And evidently, so does Maureen. "She raised me alone so she's my best friend and both mom and dad to me," Somerville explained. "She loves Dave and they have an amazing bond."
