Before Justin Bieber's "Journals," there was Ariana Grande's "Yours Truly."
It was Aug. 30, 2013, and Grande - who rose to fame on Nickelodeon's "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat" - suddenly emerged as a musical superstar with her debut album. Thanks to her dreamy voice and impressive range, the budding phenom, who was then 20 years old, proved she was so much more than just a teen star.
The album was a testament of how '90s R&b, hip-hop, pop, and doo-wop can complement one another. Paired with production by Babyface, The Rascals (Leon Thomas III and Khris Riddick-Tynes), Antonio Dixon, Harmony Samuels, Tommy Brown (aka TBHits), as well as cowriting credits from the aforementioned and Victoria Monét, Sevyn Streeter, Jordin Sparks, and Priscilla Renea (now Muni Long), "Yours Truly" was an instant victory. The inevitable has happened. For the first time, a TikTok dancer will appear on Dancing with the Stars. And yes, of course, it’s Charli D’Amelio.
The 18-year-old star, who has been described as the “queen of TikTok,” will vie for the Mirrorball Trophy during the 31st season of the long-running competition series. To earn the top prize, D’Amelio will have to out-dance a slew of other contestants, including a member of her own family. Heidi D’Amelio, Charli’s mother, will also be part of the season 31 cast. Rather than serving as her daughter’s dance partner, Heidi will go up against her. Good luck, mom!
The younger D’Amelio will add her name to the list of internet personalities who have competed on DWTS. Other members of that group include YouTube fashionista Bethany Mota, one-time Vine star Hayes Grier, acrobatic violinist Lindsey Stirling, and YouTube standout Jojo Siwa.

When it comes to advocating for gender equality in the music industry, Bebe Rexha is one of the kingpins for change. Not because others are just starting to speak more openly about representation in media, but because it's right, and it matters. Whether she's calling out predatory music producers or championing the celebration of female expression in songs, the 29-year-old "Last Hurrah" singer just wants all artists to have a fair shot at making it big - and if that means taking a bat to the patriarchy, then so be it.
One of the ways Rexha is making efforts for the cause is by teaming up with Bumble for its Empowered by Bumble Bizz program. The initiative will connect her, Kacey Musgraves, and Hayley Kiyoko each with an up-and-coming female artist who will then get to perform at a music festival in 2020. This holds meaningful value,...

Spotify’s most popular R&B playlist includes 40 songs, and almost every one contains drums. But you won’t find any percussion in Pink Sweat$’ “Honesty” — little more than a tranquil line on guitar and a series of harmonies, the track is like a demo that never got beefed up but somehow sneaked onto the streaming platform anyway. That fragility immediately marks it as an outlier, and that’s the point.

Young Thug revvs his off-the-cuff adlibs up to double-time, while T.I. praises his plug for delivering his drugs “andale.” The Fast and Furious soundtrack hits shelves on March 17, and also features songs from the likes of Kid Ink, Tyga, Yg, Wiz Khalifa, Sevyn Streeter, Prince Royce, Kevin Gates, Flo Rida and more.
