Club Charli Xcx will open on June 7, when the singer and songwriter unleashes her pulsating new studio album, Brat. The album’s release date arrives nearly two months after she announced it with its neon green minimalist cover artwork and chaotic lead single, “Von Dutch.” Charli is keeping her energy high in the lead-up to the summer release with two new singles and the complete Brat tracklist.

While George Daniel is notably one of the masterminds behind the 1975, he’s recently been hitting the studio with another innovative British artist: his fiancée Charli Xcx. The pair announced their engagement last month, but in between wedding planning, the singer’s focus is on her upcoming sixth studio album. In a recent interview on the Spout Podcast, Charli discussed bringing Daniel into the fold as a collaborator and what she’s learned from the 1975’s recording process.

The 1975, a band whose members are no strangers to real-life carnage, recreated fictional scenes of horror from movies at their Halloween concert at a venue with the comically unscary name of the Little Caesars Arena (horror! horror!) in Detroit. Their “Halloween Party,” according to NME, included callbacks to American Psycho, The Ring, and The Blair Witch Project.
Some of the horrors began after the band performed “About You.” Huey Lewis and the News’ “Hip to Be Square” came over the Pa, and singer Matty Healy was seen dressing like Patrick Bateman,...

When the 1975 goes off-grid following the conclusion of the Still… At Their Very Best tour, it won’t mark the end of the band itself. Earlier this week, Matty Healy told an audience in Sacramento that an “indefinite hiatus of shows” has been planned following the run of concerts. Two days alter, in San Jose, the frontman clarified: “I didn’t mean to scare any hardcore fans by insinuating that we were splitting up or anything like that. That’s not happening. Don’t worry about that.”

The Elizabeth Banks-produced sex comedy Bottoms has hit theaters, and now, its soundtrack featuring music by Charli Xcx and composer Leo Birenberg is out, too. Stream the album below.
Spanning 27 songs, the Bottoms soundtrack features music co-composed by Charli and Birenberg, ranging in style and intensity. Tracks like “Bottoms” and “Sex with Mrs. Callahan” bring the upbeat, bit-crushed pop maximalism that you’d hope for from a Charli tune. Meanwhile, slower, more ambient tracks like “Josie and Juvie” and “Study Buddies” send the listener floating off into a vibey, ethereal atmosphere.
The soundtrack is augmented by additional production from The 1975’s George Daniel and longtime Charli collaborator A. G. Cook. Some Charli-heavy songs, like “Yes No Okay,” even feature guitar distortion and the rhythmic scratches, swooshes, and scrapes reminiscent of Cook’s 7G era, with Charli’s vocals carrying the perfect attitude over top. Our June 2023 CoSign Amber Bain, aka The Japanese House, has shared her second studio album, In the End It Always Does, via Dirty Hit. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.
In her CoSign interview, Bain tells Consequence she found comfort in working with producer Chloe Kraemer, who she describes as now one of her best friends. “She reflected myself back at me in a lot of ways,” she says. “These songs are all about queer experience and being a queer woman, and I think that working with another queer woman helped get those songs out and treat them with the kind of romance that they need and deserve.”
Other collaborators on In the End include Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon (“Over There”), Muna’s Katie Gavin, and Matty Healy (“Sunshine Baby”) and George Daniel of The 1975, the latter of whom co-produced multiple tracks.

The Japanese House and frequent collaborator Matty Healy teamed up again to play a SiriusXM session. While in the studio, the duo performed their new song “Sunshine Baby,” as well as a cover of Shania Twain’s “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing.” Check out clips of both performances below.
In their cover, Amber Bain and Healy remove the keys and background vocals that make the original “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing” feel slightly dated. Instead, the artists give the acoustic guitar at the heart of the track room to breathe, finger picking a delicate melody that turns the pop ballad into something of a folk song.
The SiriusXM session comes as The Japanese House promotes In the End It Always Does, her second full-length album. Chloe Kraemer produced the LP, while the Healy collaboration “Sunshine Baby” features extra production from his The 1975 bandmate, George Daniel. The...

The Japanese House has teamed up with her Dirty Hit labelmate Matty Healy for the new single “Sunshine Baby.” It’s the latest preview of In the End It Always Does, Amber Bain’s second studio album under the moniker.
Bain co-produced the dreamy, synth-laden “Sunshine Baby” with Chloe Kraemer and Healy’s The 1975 bandmate George Daniel. On the track, she reminisces fondly about a past relationship that was destined not to make it with the assistance of backing vocals from Healy. “I miss falling in love,” Bain sings. “I miss the feeling that you get/ When someone fits just like a glove.”
“‘Sunshine Baby’ is my nickname for my dog, and my ex and I always used to lay on the beach together being sunshine babies,” Bain said in a statement. “The chorus is kind of a submission to the end of our relationship, but singing it in a positive light.

The 1975’s Matty Healy has joined British singer-songwriter the Japanese House (a.k.a. Amber Bain) for a new single, “Sunshine Baby.”

Matty Healy is lying on a leather couch, smoking a cigarette and running his hand feverishly across his naked chest and onto his crotch. That might sound like quite odd behaviour in front of a stadium full of people, but if you’ve been paying any attention whatsoever to The 1975’s ongoing tour, it’s all par for the course.
The Manchester-formed band are currently in the US, supporting their fifth studio album Being Funny in a Foreign Language with their At Their Very Best live shows. Fans have watched as the frontman bites chunks out of a supposedly raw steak, snogs fans from the audience, and feigns masturbation. Matty Healy knows exactly how and why he’s just been canceled. It’s Tuesday afternoon, about an hour after Notes on a Conditional Form, the sprawling, undefinable fourth album from his band, the 1975, leaked online in full. Some of the band’s most hardcore fans — people who couldn’t wait the last few days for the album’s official release on May 22nd — are already buzzing about “Roadkill,” a folksy Americana-ish song on which Healy recalls a homophobic slur that was once wielded against him.

Learning to enjoy the 1975 has always required a certain suspension of disbelief. If you can believe that a boy-band-pretty synth-pop quartet from Manchester with a poodle-haired lead singer can create nuanced, voice-of-a-generation anthems hidden inside layers upon layers of irony and bombast, then consider yourself a fan. Matty Healy, the group’s frontman and primary lyricist, may be Gen Y’s premier rock star: a 31-year-old who is as disgusted by fame as he is enthralled by it, a former drug addict who still writes love songs to heroin, a...

The 1975 is set to cap off 2016 as one of the most successful rock bands around right now. With sold out shows all across the world, an appearance at the Apple Music Festival, a top ten single in “The Sound,” and their first number one record in I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It, the UK group has done virtually everything right during the calendar year. So, what’s next? If you want to believe anything the guys put on social media, then you might want to expect another album relatively soon.
