Larry David did not curb his dislike of Elon Musk while at a wedding.
The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator confronted Twitter Aka “X” owner Musk during agent Ari Emanuel’s 2022 wedding, as captured in new biography “Elon Musk,” written by Walter Isaacson.
David and Musk were sitting at the same table during the wedding reception, which led David to ask Musk, “Do you just want to murder kids in schools?” in an excerpt from the book (via The New York Post). The wedding took place four days following the Uvalde, Texas school shooting massacre.
Per the biography, Musk replied, “I’m anti-kid murder,” to which “Seinfeld” creator David asked, “Then how could you vote Republican?”
David later confirmed the encounter to biographer Isaacson, telling the author, “His tweets about voting Republican because Democrats were the party of division and hate were sticking in my craw. Even if Uvalde never happened,...

President Joe Biden spent a great deal of his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on the fate of journalists held in captivity, vowing, “I promise you. I am working like hell to get them home.”
Still in a tone of seriousness, Biden said, “I believe in the First Amendment, and not just because my good friend Jimmy Madison wrote it.”
It took a few beats for many of the 2,600 or so packed into the Washington Hilton subterranean ballroom that the president was making a transition to the satirical portion of his remarks. By the time that he got to a Don Lemon joke, it was on.

Exclusive: The furor over a Chinese spy balloon that flew over U.S. airspace has further chilled D.C.-Beijing tensions, but the entertainment industry already has been swept up in the heightened atmosphere of American hawkishness.
Hollywood studios and producers are poised to get a new level of scrutiny over their dealings with China — reflecting a bipartisan hardline toward Beijing and escalating concerns over its influence.
A little publicized provision of a recently passed defense bill restricts the U.S. government from spending funds on movies that, to gain entry into the Chinese marketplace, are altered in the face of Chinese government dictates.
The provision in the National Defense Authorization Act, approved in a bipartisan vote of Congress and signed by President Joe Biden in December, is the latest example of an increased focus on China’s role, not just in the entertainment industry but also in sports and social media.

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa), whose twelve-year stint in Congress will end next month, said Sunday that former President Donald Trump hasn’t maintained his iron grip on the Republican Party due in part to Republicans’ underperformance in the midterms and the manner in which Trump launched his re-election bid.
Appearing on CNN State of the Union, Toomey elaborated on his closing piece of advice to his GOP colleagues, having said Thursday on the Senate floor that his party “can’t be about or beholden to any one man.

“The View” hosts were quick to call out Republicans’ hypocrisy on Monday, as they discussed former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo comments on the Brittney Griner-Viktor Bout prisoner swap.
After 10 months in a Russian prison, WNBA player Griner was brought back to the U.S. in exchange for the Russian arms dealer. Pompeo made his feelings clear, saying that this swap sets a dangerous precedent and will make it “more likely” celebrities will be taken hostage.
Whoopi Goldberg, however, wasn’t having it and reminded viewers that former President Donald Trump freed 5,000 Taliban members for no reason during his presidency and faced little to no blowback.
“I do want to point out that ‘You Know Who’ traded for no one and gave 5,000 Taliban guys,” she said. “How come no one is bitching about that?”

Donald Trump was certain that evangelical voters and Christian-right leaders would “never” abandon him. In the months before he formally announced his campaign to reclaim the White House, Trump had quizzed certain advisers about what “the evangelicals” thought of his flirtations with a third run, two sources familiar with the matter say. Larry David recently ran into former Trump attorney Alan Dershowitz at the grocery store, and he didn’t hold back from criticizing the Harvard Law professor.
In a heated exchange that was witnessed by a Page Six source, Dershowitz and David bumped into each other at Chilmark General Store in Martha’s Vineyard. Dershowitz confirmed the exchange he had with David to Page Six and said it started when he saw David and tried to say hi, but the comedian walked away from him.
Dershowitz then said, “We can still talk, Larry,” which prompted David to bring up Dershowit’z Trump ties — he mentioned in particular Dershowitz’s fondness for Trump Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
“No. No. We really can’t. I saw you. I saw you with your arm around Pompeo! It’s disgusting,” David said.
“He’s my former student [at Harvard Law]. I greet all of my former students that way.

George Conway said on Friday that former President Donald Trump’s White House aides — including Conway’s wife, Kellyanne Conway — “didn’t push back” on him when they should have.
Appearing on CNN, the conservative lawyer scoffed after host Brianna Keilar read a book excerpt claiming that former secretary of state Mike Pompeo fretted that “the crazies [had] taken over” after Trump began baselessly claiming voter fraud in the wake of the 2020 election, which he lost to President Joe Biden.
“That’s really nice that he thought that and that he said that privately,” Conway said sarcastically. He went on, “Why didn’t he go — come here, go on to Fox — and say that? Why? We’re all hearing it now: ‘Oh, the crazies were there. There was nobody there to push back; it’s terrible. It’s Rudy Giuliani’s fault.’ Well, you could have said something at the time.

President-elect Joe Biden gave a sobering year-end message, particularly about the challenges remaining in the Covid-19 crisis and in the impact of the massive cyberattack on U.S. government agencies.
Biden said that there was hope with a new vaccine, which he received on Monday, but that the virus is still raging out of control, with more than 3,000 deaths per day.
“Here is the simple truth: Our darkest days in the battle against covid are ahead of us, not behind us. So we need to prepare ourselves, to steel our spines. As frustrating as it is to hear, it’s going to take patience, persistence and determination to beat this virus.”
The major news networks and NBC and ABC carried the remarks. CBS streamed the remarks on Cbsn.

Washington, Dec 6 (Ians) The White House has planned to host a series of indoor holiday parties, despite warnings from top health officials regarding the unabated coronavirus resurgence across the country, according to media reports.
An NBC News report said that one such party was held on December 1 where President Donald Trump made a brief appearance.
According to the report, several people in attendence were without face masks, including Republican National Convention chair Ronna McDaniel, who has tested positive for the virus in September, just few days before the President had confirmed his diagnosis.
Shrugging off concerns over the indoor gatherings, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters: "If you can loot businesses, burn down buildings, engage in protests, you can also go to a Christmas party. You can celebrate the holiday of Christmas, and you can do it responsibly.

Washington, Dec 4 (Ians) The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions against an Iranian entity and its director allegedly related to Iran's chemical weapons research.
In a statement on Thursday, the Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (Ofac) designated Shahid Meisami Group and its director Mehran Babri.
The Shahid Meisami Group is "involved in Iran's chemical weapons research and is subordinate to the Iranian Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, also known as Spnd", the statement said.
The US had designated Spnd in 2014 in connection with the Iranian regime's proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (Wmd) or their means of delivery.
The Group "has been responsible for numerous Spnd projects, the cost of which totalled in the millions of US dollars", the statement said.
These projects include testing and producing chemical agents and optimising them for effectiveness and toxicity for use as incapacitation agents, it added.

The Season 7 finale of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver wasted no time in jumping into the main story: the 2020 Election. Yes, even though the election happened over two weeks ago, it’s still in play. Oliver said he would have much rather spent his time talking about the rare yellow turtle the internet has been fawning over, he needed to talk about Donald Trump — or in his words, “this a**hole”.
Of course, he addressed Trump’s refusal to concede. He said that his actions are not surprising, but instead, it’s disappointing to see “sh*t” like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying things like “there will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration”.
“What the f*ck are you talking about you ‘Business Grimace’?” Oliver dragged Pompeo. He went on to say how most Republicans like Pompeo and Mitch McConnell refuse to acknowledge that Joe Biden is the President-elect.

“The Reagans” is an unavoidable mirror. Matt Tyrnauer’s four-part series profiles a couple that held sway over a state and then a party and then the world, but the timeline very purposefully stops with their White House exit in 1989.
Even still, it’s nearly impossible to see the stances, coalitions, and maneuvers that helped Ronald Reagan ascend to the presidency as a precursor to what the United States has experienced over the last four years. The central question becomes: Does “The Reagans” feel so familiar because it’s being pitched to an audience living through 2020? Or are the echoes so unavoidable that any examination of the 1980s and what led to them can’t help but remind us of the headlines of the more recent past?
In practice, it’s a bit of both. Start looking for parallels to the now-outgoing administration and you’ll see them everywhere: disgruntled former employees writing tell-all memoirs,...

Donald Trump may not have been elected the next President of the United Sates, but the former reality television star continues to turn late night’s heads with his refusal to concede to the victorious Joe Biden.
After nearly a week of crying voter fraud and delegitimizing the former vice president’s win, Trump has made a smooth transition of power nearly impossible, or as Jimmy Kimmel simply put it: “the Potus refuses to go-tus.”
During Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live the comedian roasted Trump’s seeming inability to accept the election results with grace. Even a week after Election Day, Trump continues to question the legitimacy of “illegal” votes and those in his close circles have pushed the same message, some testifying and others claiming there will be a smooth transition to a “second Trump administration.”

Appearing amid Donald Trump’s and Republican attempts to cast doubt on his victory, President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday laughed off the potential impact of members of the current administration digging in and making baseless allegations of electoral fraud.
Biden’s appearance came shortly after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told members of the press that “there will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.” Pompeo may have been joking.
When asked about Pompeo’s remark, Biden laughed and then repeated his name.
Trump has not conceded, even though Biden looks to end up with 306 electoral votes and a substantial victory in the popular vote. Meanwhile, Trump’s administration reportedly has refused to release transition funds.

Last month, as infernos raged across the West Coast and President Trump countered scientific consensus on climate change, saying, “I don’t think science knows, actually,” Americans of various persuasions got a glimpse of the apocalypse. Update 10/4/2020: Joe Biden, 77, has tested negative for the coronavirus for the third time since Tuesday’s debate. The Democratic nominee’s campaign has committed to releasing the results of all future Covid-19 tests. Biden is not yet in the clear, however, because most people incubate the virus for two to 14 days before testing positive or showing symptoms, and studies suggest that people may be most likely to spread the virus during the 48 hours before they start to experience symptoms.
