Netflix has released the full trailer for their new series Seven Seconds. This is our best look yet at the anthology crime series and it looks like it will tell a very heavy and intense story that touches on some hard-hitting issues. It looks like a great show and I'm looking forward to checking it out.
In a society fraught with racial tension, sensational headlines, and an audience who would rather be entertained than informed, seven seconds can mean life or death. The new Netflix original series Seven Seconds gives viewers a glimpse into the human stories behind the headlines. In an instant, life is forever changed for Brenton Butler and his family. After a white cop accidentally hits and critically injures a black teenager, a northeastern city explodes with racial tensions, an attempted cover up and its aftermath, and the trial of the century. We're back with another video round-up that should excite fans of The Walking Dead, James Bond, and Salem's John Alden. The first trailer for Arc Entertainment's The Walking Deceased, a horror comedy spoof of AMC's The Walking Dead and other living dead films like Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead, has been released, along with a new behind-the-scenes look at the 24th Bond film, Spectre, and another teaser for season two of Wgn America's Salem.
The Walking Deceased (slated for a March 20th release): "The Walking Deceased is a delightfully bloody addition to the pantheon of zombie-apocalypse spoofs. Lampooning every tried and true zombie meme. Join the Sheriff with his son, and a motley crew of survivors as they weather confrontations with zombies, meet up and then leave their tattered camp–a partially destroyed shopping mall. Somewhere around the hour-and-ten minute mark of Killers, I recapped what had transpired and thought, “Sweet baby Jesus, what else could these maniac “Mo brothers” possibly bash me over the head with?” Violent murders, perverse lawyers, grotesque torture, acidic erasures – then I realized there was still over an hour of carnage left. Expecting more of the same serial-slashing antics, Killers happily breaks from more generic torture-porn mentalities and engages in thoughtful depictions of a “good versus evil” battle that demands blood be spilled on both fronts. All two-hours-and-seventeen minutes are utilized by the Mo brothers, with a little scripting help from Takuji Ushiyama, as their film explores the minds of mass-murderers from a visually relentless, competitive, and unsettling new light.

The steady stream of content for Alien: Isolation continues, as The Creative Assembly have released another piece of Dlc for the title. Safe Haven, which is the third add-on released for the survival horror game, is available through the title’s Season Pass, or can be purchased separately.
Starring Hughes, the Communications Manager at Sevastopol Station, Safe Haven will once again test the survival skills of gamers who wish to take on the challenge. Hughes is desperate to escape the safe room he is currently trapped in, and in order to do so, he must accomplish ten different tasks assigned to him at a communication station.
The Creative Assembly offered a tease of the included storyline on their website:

Let me just say this right up front before you declare us legally insane and/or possessing of piss-poor taste in films — inclusion on this list doesn’t necessarily mean we think the movie is bad. Sure, that’s true of some of them (I’m looking at you Horns), but in most cases these are simply films we had reason to expect so much more from only to be let down — sometimes dramatically — in the end. 2014 was a spectacular year filled with great cinema, and there’s a lot that we absolutely loved (as evidenced by many of our other year-end lists posting this week), but these are the films that fell short. We walk into every movie hoping for the best, but sometimes our expectations get the best of us whether due to the talent involved or the power of a great trailer. We’re only human after all. So...

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into Sevastopol, The Creative Assembly has confirmed that the second Dlc bundle for Alien: Isolation, Trauma, is available today for those on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, while the survival-based content pack is expected to arrive tomorrow for PlayStation platforms.
Much like its forebearer (Corporate Lockdown, which released at the tail-end of October), Trauma will introduce brave adventurers to three all-new maps within the game’s Survival Mode. Specifically, those areas will be titled Reoperation, Crawl Space and Overrun, wherein users will play as chief medical officer Dr. Lingard.
In tandem with the launch, The Creative Assembly released the following blurb for the add-on:
“Racked with guilt and feeling responsible for bringing the creature on board, she holds herself liable for the death and destruction that ravages the station as the Alien is unleashed. Wanting to ensure that her research...

I, like most horror movie fans, love an anthology. There’s no other genre that makes use of the short film the way horror does. Throw three of them together, maybe a bookend segment, and you’ve more than likely got something that horror fans are going to be paying attention to. The first V/H/S film was met with mixed reception, some loved it, some hated it. Me? I loved it. I’m a fan of almost everyone involved in it, and I thought it was a quite solid anthology. Then V/H/S 2 came along a year later, and it was greeted with almost nothing but praise. I’ll admit, as much as I enjoyed the first, V/H/S 2 blew it away. It wasn’t perfect, of course, but it was just on a different level than the first. Now we have a third, and supposed final,...

Headcleaner: VHS Series Gets Third Installment Blues
Perhaps after this third installment this franchise can enter the same void for the format which it’s named, as this is by far the least thematically inventive anthology of the trio. A quintet of five up and coming horror directors spackle this latest omnibus, once loosely geared to tickle our nostalgic fancy for the retired home video format from an era where gritty and scary films used to be more prolific.
Interweaving between its three sordid tales is the wraparound segment, “Vicious Circles,” from director Marcel Sarmiento, better known as the helmer of “D is for Dog” from the first The ABCs of Death film and his feature, Deadgirl. Beginning with a tense teenage couple, whereby the young male filmmaker stumbles upon a high speed Los Angeles chase and uses the opportunity to snag some YouTube footage that will make him famous,...

When people watch V/H/S: Viral, there will undoubtably be some who question the short runtime, while there will be others scoffing at the Go-Pro cameras, iPhone videos, and other technologically advanced recorders that have nothing to do with VHS tapes, which is understandable. To provide a little backstory, Todd Lincoln (The Apparition) was supposed to have a segment in this third installment, but either the short was subsequently cut after a few test screenings or he submitted an unfinished product – whoever you choose to listen to – which doesn’t surprise me in the lest after sitting through The Apparition. And to the haters who will never silence their gripes about authenticity and VHS quality, throwing their hands in the air at the first signs of crisp quality and crystal-clear focusing? Eh, we’ll never stop the haters from hating, and it’s their loss because V/H/S:...

Just weeks after Alien: Isolation dug Amanda Ripley through hell and back on the Sevastopol Station, the first add-on pack, titled Corporate Lockdown, has been released for the game’s Survivor Mode.
Offering three new maps and a playable character whose name should ring a bell to fans who scoured the ship, Corporate Lockdown looks to offer more than a few more hours of slinking through another section of the station. It will provide a glimpse into Seegson Executive Ransome’s attempt at escaping to the Torrens with decoded Nostromo data across three challenge maps titled “Severance,” “Scorched Earth” and “Loose Ends.” Players will be timed, of course, giving them the chance to check their times against everybody else who finishes the maps.
Also new to the Corporate Lockdown pack is the addition of Gauntlet Mode, which tasks players with beating all three challenge maps back-to-back, without dying, as fast as they can.

Popular in the 1960s and early 1970s with more rare appearances in the 1980s, 1990s and the 2000s, the anthology-style horror film has made a solid resurgence in recent years with such portmanteau releases as The ABCs of Death films and the V/H/S series.
With Mexico Barbaro, Fear Paris and other projects in various stages of completion, the anthology horror film looks to continue to be an important part of the horror cinema landscape.
Some anthology films employ a framing or wraparound sequence in an attempt to connect the segments that make up the film while others dispense with this classic Amicus-style approach entirely and simply present a collection of short films connected by genre.
Either way, a horror anthology film is ultimately about the quality of its individual segments and this article will take you on a tour of the greatest horror anthology segments of all time.

To ensure players aren’t getting too confident within Alien: Isolation’s time-based Survivor Mode, Sega has confirmed that Corporate Lockdown — the first of five planned Dlc for the feature — will be released simultaneously across all platforms on October 28th.
Available for $7.99 (£5.59), the maiden add-on will contain a trio of new maps based within the Survivor Mode and even features a new playable character in Seegson executive, Ransome. Those new areas are titled Severance, Scorched Earth and Loose Ends — not exactly the most welcoming collection of monikers, mind you — and players will be forced to navigate through the new environments as the aforementioned executive.
Here’s a snippet of the Dlc’s plot, courtesy of Sega:
“Seegson Executive Ransome has learnt that he has been abandoned by his paymasters. Knowing that the Torrens is on the way, he decides to make his escape and hitch a ride on board, taking decoded Nostromo data with him.

While I enjoyed most of V/H/S: Viral, not really wanting to play favorites, there’s no denying the frantic awesomeness of a little segment called “Bonestorm.” My best goes out to Nacho Vigolondo, Gregg Bishop and Marcel Sarmiento for their respective horror shorts, but Spring/Resolution filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have done the unthinkable and challenged previous V/H/S favorite “Safe Haven” for franchise supremacy. Starting out with a group of skateboard punks looking to record a sick demo, the segment quickly becomes a video-game-esque shoot ‘em up I dubbed “Skater Punk Call Of Duty.” Once Benson and Moorhead hit their stride, there’s no competition amidst the skull-crushing gore, crazy cultists and evil monsters, which you can read about in my Fantastic Fest review of V/H/S: Viral.

What started as a clever way of combining the current found footage trend and fun anthology horror has now become an annual series that many genre fans have embraced. V/H/S: Viral, the third entry into the found footage series, delves into more action territory than straight-forward horror. I guess a change of pace isn’t a bad thing. Though some fans might be put off by this. The wrap around features a chase through the streets of La (“Vicious Circles”), the first story includes an aerodynamic fight between magicians over a mysterious cloak (“Dante the Great”), and the final story includes a burly brawl featuring kids using their skateboards to fend off possessed demons (“Bonestorm”). A lot of excitement is created by these three stories but the feeling of dread or fear is nowhere to be found. All of these amount to an anthology that doesn’t aim...

Shaky cam horrors have had their day, right? [Rec]2 was probably the last shaky cam horror movie I truly enjoyed, unless you count Timo Tjahjanto and Gareth Evans' gleefully deranged short, Safe Haven, from V/H/S/2. The first person perspective is a cost effective way of creating nerve-jangling tension because it feels so up close and personal, but it's been a long time since the sub-genre served up anything fresh. Raised by Wolves doesn't add anything new to the mix either, but there's something about Mitchell Altieri's shaggy dog story that keeps you watching. When a group of extreme skaters go searching for an empty pool at an abandoned house in the barren desert, they discover that the rumours about the house being haunted by a demonic presence might actually hold some water. They maybe shouldn't have skipped the part on 'dark history of occultism' either. The high-spirited...

A number of Sound On Sight editors and contributors are geographically fortunate enough to make the Fantasia Film Festival an annual must-attend event. I have never been to the festival, but have followed it from afar since it landed on my radar years ago when a well-received short film I had a major acting role in called My Sweet Satan, played there.
This year’s lineup of films strikes me as substantially more intriguing than the programs of the last couple of years. Given Fantasia’s staggering breadth of programming spread across multiple weeks, the challenge is in trying to narrow a ‘most anticipated’ list down to just five films. My picks, in alphabetical order, are as follows.
****
Among the Living
Written and directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury
France, 2014
Also known as Aux yeux des vivants (The Eyes of the Living), the third feature film from the outstanding...

Magnolia Pictures/Magnet Releasing have officially set the date on which you can hit play on the third film in found footage anthology series, V/H/S: Viral. Following the remarkable V/H/S/2, which featured Adam Wingard’s eye implant, Eduardo Sanchez & Gregg Hale’s clever first-person zombie piece, the remarkable “Safe Haven” from Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahjanto and […]...

Friday Update: The Fault in our Stars earned a fantastic $8.2 million on Thursday night. That's way ahead of March's Divergent ($4.9 million), and is roughly on par with recent comic book adaptations The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($8.7 million) and X-Men: Days of Future Past ($8.1 million). Before assuming that Fault is on its way to over $80 million this weekend, it's worth noting that the movie received a boost from "The Night Before Our Stars," a premium-priced event with tickets running as high as $25. The event included a screening of the movie and a cast and crew simulcast Q&A, and it seemed like a popular option among fans. However, Fox is reporting that the regularly priced 9 p.m. showings actually accounted for the majority of the gross.Based on this Thursday night figure, The Fault in our Stars will almost certainly earn over $50 million this weekend.Meanwhile, Edge of Tomorrow earned $1.8 million. Among 2014 releases,...

Edge of Tomorrow has two things working for it, and one big one working against it. The bad news is the Mtc tracking. It's low, very low, $23.9 million low. And generally you don't want to defy tracking like that because the fine folks at Mtc have a solid, umm, track record where these things are concerned. So savvy predictors (like us) would be wise to at least consider that number before getting out our own dartboard. As to the aforementioned factors working for Edge of Tomorrow, I'll firstly point to that shiny 90 percent RottenTomatoes score. People seem to like this film once they've been exposed to it, though Rt probably has less effect in the summer, plus people aren't intaking as much television / Internet to be exposed to the big marketing campaigns that could actually swing them on non-sequel titles. However, I'll point to something I just made up called...

Now that The Raid 2 and Killers are out in the wild, the talents behind those two awesome slices of Indonesian action are collaborating on the dark action thriller The Night Comes For Us, where things are shaping up very nicely indeed. The last time Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahjanto collaborated was on the sensational Safe Haven chapter of V/H/S 2, and this time Tjahjanto is directing a script penned by the both of them, while Evans produces and handles action direction. Already on board are Joe Taslim and Yayan Ruhian, familiar faces to any pre-existing fans of The Raid who may be out there, as well as Hammer Girl herself, Julie Estelle. Now, via the production's official Instagram feed, we have a few more names to...

To those who say that the found-footage horror genre has been done to death, I point to the micro-budgeted V/H/S series, which has succeeded in bringing together some of the genre’s most promising directors to collaborate on blood-curdling, interconnected short films.
The first film, V/H/S, was scattershot in its execution, with some strong segments (The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger) and some dull ones (notably Second Honeymoon). Follow-up V/H/S/2 was much better, boasting some terrific scares (especially in instant horror classic Safe Haven) and only one weak link (Slumber Party Alien Abduction). So, I’m understandably excited about the recently announced third installment, now confirmed with the title V/H/S Viral.
The overarching narrative that connects the horror shorts in this film will focus on, “fame-obsessed teens who unwittingly become stars of the next internet sensation.” Though...

Ti West has a polarizing effect on indie horror fans, representing either a great white hope or an overhyped genre hipster. While The House Of The Devil swept me off my feet with a stylish cult throwback experience, The Innkeepers told a sleepy ghost story that turned me into a napping Snorlax – despite moments of shocking terror. Since I refuse to acknowledge West’s The ABCs Of Death and V/H/S segments, I walked into The Sacrament 50/50 on the director’s previous efforts, expecting another elongated buildup and short, punctuated finale – but would this religious nightmare sport a worthy payoff?

The big payoff moment. The money shot. The Omg/Wtf/Nsfw scene in horror. These are the moments that define films. The moment that either grosses and disgusts or shocks the audience in such a way that they have to come back for the sequel. Here are our Top 13 Wtf Moments in Horror.
We're going to try to keep this to relatively mainstream films. That's not to say that some lesser known indies haven't had some shocking moments, but things seem that much more disturbing when the movie in question reaches a wide audience.
Beginning with our honorable mentions, we've got to include I Spit on Your Grave, one of the most censored and banned films of all times. Camille Keaton played Jennifer Hills who was raped for the better part of the first half of the film. Plenty of Nsfw moments there. Also those infamous shit-eaters in Salo: 120 Days of Sodom were certainly shocking.
