Producer-director Stephanie Laing aims to put a modern twist on branded content by teaming with an iconic lingerie maker to generate a showcase for fresh female talent.
Laing has partnered with Authentic Brands Group, owner of Frederick’s of Hollywood, to produce a short-form “comedy-action miniseries” revolving around five women who pursue their dreams in the heart of Los Angeles — at the W Hotel in Hollywood, to be exact. “Hollywood Dreams” stars comedian Blair Beeken, YouTube influencers Hrush Achemyan, Meghan Currie and Amanda Steele and TV host Ellie Lee.
The series bows today and is part of Laing’s Pypo comedy venture, which aims to become a platform for fresh female talent. Pypo — or “Put Your Pretty On” — recently produced the Netflix movie “Irreplaceable You,” starring Kate McKinnon, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Christopher Walken.

Comedies, docs and a Bollywood title are among the Easter and Passover weekend’s packed roster of new specialty releases. The heavy number of limited openers comes just ahead of next weekend’s rollout of Avengers: Endgame, which will mark mostly a pause for new specialties. Terry Gilliam’s long-awaited The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, starring Adam Driver and Jonathan Pryce, begins its regular theatrical run following a one-night showing in hundreds of locations around the country last week. The Film Arcade is bowing fellow comedy Family, starring Taylor Schilling and directed by feature first-timer Laura Steinel. Counterprogramming the religious holiday weekend, Magnolia is opening Sundance doc Hail Satan? with an exclusive New York run before heading to L.A. next weekend. Zeitgeist Films/Kino Lorber is launching doc Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché by Pamela B. Green and narrated by Jodie Foster exclusively in L.

The Film Arcade has released the trailer for “Family,” writer-director Laura Steinel’s comedy starring Taylor Schilling as a workaholic whose unexpected week of niece-sitting naturally ends at the Gathering of the Juggalos. The “Orange Is the New Black” star isn’t the only one immersing herself in the music and culture of Insane Clown Posse, as newcomer Bryn Vale dons black-and-white face paint. Watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis: “Kate Stone (Taylor Schilling) is career-focused, and enjoys her life that way. Her brash attitude keeps relationships at arm’s length, making her an outcast in her own right. When her estranged brother calls asking her to babysit her tween niece Maddie, Kate reluctantly agrees to help. But babysitting overnight unexpectedly turns into a week, and Kate’s life spins into chaos. As Maddie reveals stories of being bullied and of wanting to run away and be a Juggalo,...
