Disney+’s ‘Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story’ First Look
Above is your first look at Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, the Disney+ documentary about the legal case between two England players wives that gripped the UK and made tabloid headlines for weeks. Disney has released three images of Coleen Rooney, the wife of former England captain Wayne Rooney, ahead of the show’s launch. The doc follows how Rooney turned amateur online sleuth to find an explanation for why private stories about her and her family kept arising. Her infamous Instagram post revealing the identity of the leaker ‘broke the internet’ and lead to one of the UK’s highest-profile defamation cases, in which Rooney’s claims about Rebekah Vardy, wife of ex-England striker Jamie Vardy, were found to be “substantially true” by a judge. Britain’s Channel 5 has indicated it will air a quick-turn documentary on the Titan submersible that has gone missing near the wreck of the Titanic. The timing, however, might raise eyebrows.
The ITN-produced doc Titanic Sub: Lost at Sea is set to air at 7 p.m. Thursday in Britain. That’s just hours after the craft – which has five people aboard – is expected to run out of air. Obviously, if the sub is not found by then, there would be even more intense interest in the craft, its mission and those aboard.
Ian Rumsey, managing director of content for ITN issued a statement trying to reassure viewers.

The heartrending search to locate and rescue the Titan submersible before it runs out of its four-day air supply will be the focus of a new fast-turnaround documentary on U.K. broadcaster Channel 5.
“Titanic Sub: Lost at Sea” has been scheduled to air on Thursday at 7 p.m. local time. The doc will be presented by 5 News host Dan Walker.
The ITN-produced documentary promises to “go beyond” news coverage and bring viewers up to date, while examining the wider context about the voyage, its passengers and the fascination with the Titanic shipwreck. The film will also talk to experts and look at the rise of extreme tourism.
ITN is a go-to production company in the U.K. for fast-turnaround films that react to current events. The outfit recently produced a special on British woman Nicola Bulley, who vanished in January without a trace while walking her dog, and...

Exclusive: Netflix’s Harry & Meghan would never have found a home at the BBC, the woman tasked with overseeing the corporation’s documentary programing has said.
According to Clare Sillery, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s approach to the Netflix smash series would be unacceptable for a public broadcaster that “cannot relinquish editorial control.”
Speaking on the eve of Sheffield Doc Fest, Sillery said doc commissioning is a “question of trust and what audiences expect from us,” while she acknowledged that “in the online world people can have complete control of their own narratives.”
Clare Sillery: “This is a question of trust and what audiences expect from us.”
“But the question for the viewer is what you are paying your license fee for,” she said. “[The viewer] expects us to maintain the editorial standards that we have.”

Exclusive: The EP behind Prince Harry’s bombshell ITV interview has stressed its “truly independent” nature in contrast to Netflix’s Harry & Meghan docuseries.
ITN Productions (Itnp) MD Ian Rumsey said Harry & Meghan had been “slightly overshadowed” by the debates thrown up around the royal couple’s involvement with the project. The show, which achieved gangbuster ratings, was co-produced by Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions and they were involved with the editorial.
“It was made in a certain way in conjunction with Harry and Meghan which felt like they were partners in that doc,” said Rumsey. “So I can understand there is a debate about what level of involvement the subjects should have.”
The Prince Harry ITV interview, on the other hand, “felt truly independent,” Rumsey said, although there had been independence concerns before it aired due to presenter Tom Bradby’s friendship with Harry and the fact...

Happy Valley fans have hailed one line from the latest episode of the BBC drama as “perfection”.
The adored series returned after a seven-year break on New Year’s Day, with writer Sally Wainwright reuniting viewers with Sarah Lancashire’s irreverent police sergeant Catherine Cawood, and James Norton’s malicious Tommy Lee Royce.
Every episode of the new season to date has gone down extremely well with fans, but it’s one line of dialogue in the third instalment, which aired on Sunday (15 January), that has them calling for the show to win all the Baftas.
The line in question comes as Catherine is explaining to her grandson Ryan (Rhys Connah) why he shouldn’t be having secret meetings with his father Tommy in prison.
“He has a kink in his brain – a twist, a psychological deformity,” she tells him. “It’s an absence of something that allows him to...

Streaming service Paramount+ has swooped for the Canadian rights to Prince Harry’s ITV interview.
The service will be the exclusive Canadian home for “Harry: The Interview,” which aired in the U.K. on Sunday night and drew an average audience of 4.2 million. In the interview, the Duke of Sussex speaks with journalist Tom Bradby about some of the issues broached in his new memoir, “Spare,” including his past drug use; the fractured relationship with his father, King Charles, and brother Prince William; and his campaign against the British tabloid press.
The 90-minute program, produced by ITN Productions, will debut on Paramount+ in Canada on Jan. 10, the same day “Spare” is published.
The Paramount+ acquisition is a coup for the streamer in Canada, where past royal interviews — such as Harry and wife Meghan Markle’s explosive Oprah interview in March 2021 — have generally landed on broadcasters such as Global.

Amazon’s push into true crime continues with several new UK originals unveiled here at the Edinburgh TV Festival today.
Fake Sheikh and The Greatest Show Never Made come from Voltage TV and Factual Fiction, respectively, and will launch on the streamer next year. They will be joined by a previously announced ITN Productions doc, whose titles been revealed as The Confession, Firecrest Films’ three-part series Three Mothers (working title), a film about YouTuber Ksi and Ben Stokes: Phoenix From the Ashes.
Fake Sheikh tells the story of maverick British reporter Mazher Mahmood, whose exposés generated headlines by his use of false identities to ensnare royals, sports stars, politicians, celebrities and members of the public. The three-part documentary series will track his meteoric rise (he was twice winning Reporter of The Year at The British Press Awards) and subsequent downfall and imprisonment.

With their glittering lifestyles and scandalous love lives, Britain’s royals have always been a honey pot for TV and feature film producers.
Netflix’s “The Crown” and the upcoming feature film “Spencer,” starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, are the latest in a long line of fictionalized accounts of the Windsors. But recently the royal tribe has drawn the attention of documentary makers, as well.
“The British royals have always been popular,” says Nick Tanner, director of sales and co-production, Passion Distribution. “Not least because of the queen’s impressive longevity. But there’s also great interest in what the young royals are doing — especially Harry and Meghan. Their story is compelling because despite their wealth and privileges, Harry and Meghan are real people trying to make sense of the modern world, as we all are.”

Viacom’s Channel 5 has bagged another couple of BBC presenters to make an event show about the climate change emergency.
Chris Packham — who has worked at the BBC for decades on shows including Springwatch, Autumnwatch, and Winterwatch — will host 100,000 Trees with Chris Packham (working title), which will raise money in partnership with charity The Woodland Trust to plant 100,000 trees across Britain.
Packham will be joined by John Humphrys, who last month left BBC Radio 4’s Today show after 32 years, as they shine a light on the UK being one of the least wooded countries in Europe and delve into the science of trees.
Deadline has previously reported on how Channel 5 has lured presenters traditionally associated with the BBC.
