Elvis Presley had been dead for six months when the plastic-surgeon’s knife plunged into Dennis Wise. There Wise lay, on a table in an Orlando hospital, surrounded by photos of the King. He knew what was coming, but the reality of it didn’t really hit him until the doctor, who seemed like a nice enough guy, started carving into his face. “All of a sudden, it started hurting real bad,” Wise recalls. “He said, ‘Give me something!’ and a nurse came over and plunged this needle into me.

As Dennis Wise continues to beat the drum that Newcastle fans will never accept anyone as manager or owner who hails from the South of England, everyone else pays attention to the actual facts of the situation and recognises that Alan Pardew is no longer the man for the job.
In truth, he hasn’t been the right man for the job for some time, and no amount of fighting talk, or insistence that the team are behind him will convince anyone otherwise: the simple fact is, even if they’re fighting, they’re rudderless and badly misused. And Pardew is the man to blame in that respect; he is unable to pick the right system to suit his players, his tactical awareness leaves a lot to be desired and he lacks the self-awareness to identify the real problems.

As a guest on BeIN Sports’ coverage of the Swansea vs Newcastle game yesterday, friend of Mike Ashley and public enemy number 4 (behind Ashley, Pardew and Kinnear) Dennis Wise was invited, for some reason, to give his own assessment of the situation at the club. Inevitably, he ignored the team’s under-performance, the current regime’s ignorance of key transfers, and the manager’s inability to choose the right system and came to the conclusion that the biggest problem is that Newcastle fans simple hate Southerners.
Way to miss the point. It must be wonderful being inside a head like Wise’s where your own attitude and your own reputation for kicking players had no impact on how anyone saw you, because where you were born was all that mattered. No, Dennis, Newcastle fans might not all be as educated and eloquent as you,...
