This is the first week of Battles: Round 2, a new addition to NBC's “The Voice” format. The only things differentiating it from the previous round are 1) duos pick their own song (from a short list), 2) there is only one steal per coach left, and 3) Coldplay's Chris Martin. Let's have a cup of PG Tips (in honor of Mr. Martin) and chat my highlights from the last two episodes. 1. Unofficial theme song of “The Voice” The week kicked off with coach Blake Shelton's pairing of country balladeer Audra McLaughlin with rocker Megan Ruger. While Megan's more precise...

Monday's episode of The Voice was filled with smooth, soulful, rocking and soaring duets that made it harder than ever for the coaches to narrow down their teams.
Three-time winner and committed cocktail fan Blake Shelton said of the tightening competition: "My liver's not going to make it."
But each coach got a little help for this second battle round from a charming and buff Chris Martin of Coldplay, who stood in as thoughtful and Brit-tastic lone mentor for all four teams.
Cierra Mickens and T.J. Wilkins showed that they could make an amazing soul duo post-Voice with their...

"The Voice" has decided that for Season 6, the Battles will continue for a second round, which will be the last elimination via the coaches before the live shows where America starts voting.
The twist to this second round is that the song will be left up to the two singers to decide (from a list), which could provide some fireworks. Also, each coach has one steal to use in this round.
Battle 1: Audra McLaughlin vs. Megan Ruger (Team Blake)
Song: "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus
They both really blow it out, though Audra hits some stratosphere-level high notes. Good lord, that girl has some pipes. But then no sooner do I type that then Megan gets her big belting note too. It's a very strong battle, tough choice. Megan's stage presence is bothersome to me, does that bug anybody else? Don't act out the words, stop bopping side-to-side. We...

"The Voice" is doing its first-ever second round of Battles in Season 6, and to help the Top 32 contestants as they face off once again in the ring, the show is enlisting the help of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
In the first preview clip below from Monday's (March 31) show, Martin advises Team Shakira contestants Josh Murley and Patrick Thomson, who are battling it out on "Run to You" by Bryan Adams. Martin tells them it's not a natural duet, so they need a little something extra -- mic stands.
In the second preview, Audra McLaughlin and Megan Ruger from Team Blake are facing off on "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. Martin advises them to engage the audience more: "This is a song about trying to get somewhere together, so cover the area -- you need to bring out your Mick Jaggers a bit."
"The Voice" airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 Et/Pt on NBC.

Time to finish up the final battles of Round 1 on "The Voice" Season 6, with Usher as the only judge with a steal to use.
Battle 1: Cary Laine vs. Sam Behymer (Team Adam)
Song: "Give Me Love" by Ed Sheeran
Sam's voice better for this song, Cary would have been more suited to a country song, maybe, but they both have a couple pitch issues here and there. The part where they sing together in harmony is nice, but this was not the most outstanding battle. Neither biffed it, but neither really shined brightly either. We would pick Sam but that's only a matter of taste, this one really is a toss-up.
Winner: Adam chooses Sam and Usher does not steal Cary, which is not a huge surprise.
Battle 2: Noah Lis vs. Kaleigh Glanton (Team Blake)
Song: "Everything" by Michael Buble
This should be right in Noah's wheelhouse as a jazz singer,...
