Alan Ruck has been playing the role of Connor Roy in HBO’s “Succession” and getting his due credit. However, it all began for him with 1986’s all-time classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. He played the nervous, fast-talking Cameron Frye in John Hughes’ classic. He reluctantly got dragged along on Ferris’ epic adventure, stealing his dad’s Ferrari and causing delightful mayhem throughout Chicago.
A still from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Many years later, Alan Ruck might have a bone to pick with someone. Despite recently bringing the character back to life, it seems like Ruck does not recall doing any such incident. The reason why he has seemingly forgotten reprising his character is definitely worth knowing!

‘Breaking Bad’ Stars Playfully Bicker While Presenting SAG Drama Ensemble Award to ‘Succession’ Cast
The stars of Breaking Bad gathered Saturday for a profanity-laden reunion to present the trophy for best drama series ensemble to the cast of Succession at the 2024 SAG Awards.
Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Dean Norris and R.J. Mitte were among those gathered to represent Breaking Bad, celebrating the show’s win in the category 10 years ago. After Gunn began spelling out the word “ensemble” by explaining that the “E” stands for “excitement,” Odenkirk quipped, “And the letter N. N stands for ‘no’ — no fucking way I’m going to do this cheesy thing where you say each letter of the word. I’m not doing it.”
Alan Ruck, who played Connor Roy on Succession, accepted the award on behalf of his fellow castmembers. “One last hurrah, I think,” Ruck said. “Right now, you’re looking at some of the luckiest people on the planet...

Comedies have always been Richard Kind‘s bread and butter. With memorable roles in shows like Spin City, Mad About You, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Other Two, and now the Night Court reboot, the 67-year-old star has long been one of the industry’s best character actors. But he tells TV Insider that he craves his chance at a dramatic turn like his Spin City co-star/longtime friend Alan Ruck, who showed his dramatic chops in the incomparable HBO series Succession. After being “raised” on the original Night Court and long admiring John Larroquette‘s performance as Dan Fielding, Kind made his Night Court debut in Season 2 Episode 7 on Tuesday, February 13 on NBC. He plays Sy Feldman, a disgraced Broadway producer who’s in legal trouble over faulty investments in his failed shows. The character is a lot like Max Bialystok of The Producers, whom Kind played on Broadway in 2004 opposite Ruck as Leo Bloom.

On the morning of January 23, 2024, actor Gary Graham, star of the "Alien Nation" TV series, the cult classic "Robot Jox," and multiple-time "Star Trek" supporting player, passed away at the age of 74. Graham had a prolific acting career, appearing in single episodes of many of the hottest TV shows of his day, including "Starsky & Hutch," "The Incredible Hulk," Knots Landing," "CHiPs," "T.J. Hooker," "Hunter," "M.A.N.T.I.S.," "Diagnosis Murder," "Ally McBeal," "Jag," and "Nip/Tuck." He had an easy demeanor, allowing him to play comedic affable characters just as well as intense, serious ones.
Trekkies likely know Graham best for playing Soval on "Star Trek: Enterprise." Soval was the snippy Vulcan ambassador who oversaw Earth's very, very slow transition from post-war ruin to a thriving society ready for space exploration. In the timeline of "Star Trek," humanity discovers warp-speed flight while the world is recovering from nuclear devastation. On the very first Earth warp flight,...

Brian Cox and Kieran Culkin-starrer ‘Succession’ nabbed the Outstanding Drama Series honour at the 75th Emmy Award. Actor Peter Dinklage was presenting the honour, who before announcing the name said: “Nothing is better than a powerful story. Nothing can defeat it.”
‘Succession’ was nominated alongside shows such as ‘Andor, ‘Better Call Saul’, ‘The Crown’, ‘House of the Dragon’, ‘The Last of Us’, ‘The White Lotus’ and ‘Yellowjackets’.
The honour was collected by the show’s creator Jesse Armstrong.
The series centres on the Roy family, owners of global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo, and their fight for control of the company amidst uncertainty about the health of the family’s patriarch.

It’s four for four for Jesse Armstrong.
The “Succession” creator and showrunner took home the Emmy for Best Drama Writing on Monday for penning “Connor’s Wedding,” the third episode of the HBO series’ fourth and final season, which featured the shocking death of family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox). “Succession,” which was the odds-on favorite to win heading into the telecast, beat out episodes from fellow HBO dramas “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us,” as well as AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” Disney+’s “Andor” and Apple TV+’s “Bad Sisters.”
“Succession” executive producer Mark Mylod was also nominated for directing the episode, which, as the title implies, is set during the nuptials of eldest son Connor (Alan Ruck). When you’re hot, you’re hot, and Matthew Macfadyen — as himself and in character — is on fire.
The “Succession” star took home his second Emmy Award Monday night, winning the category for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama series. Macfadyen has been nominated for an Emmy three times for his portrayal of Tom Wambsgans on the HBO drama. He first won in 2022, and in the past eight days, he’s won a second Emmy, earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, and taken home the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.
As fans of “Succession” already know (and spoiler alert for those who don’t), his character also ended up as the CEO of Waystar Royco — out-maneuvering his wife, Shiv (Sarah Snook), her brothers Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong), as well as the many other aspiring kings new boss Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) was considering. Succession actor Alan Ruck was involved in a two-car accident that ended up leading his pickup truck to crash into a pizza place.
CCTV footage showed that Ruck’s Rivian truck rear-ended a car stopped at a traffic signal and hit another vehicle before driving into Raffallo’s Pizza shop in Hollywood. The incident occurred at around 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday.
Ruck remained at the scene following the accident.
Despite the significant damage, only one person was later hospitalized with injuries that weren’t considered serious.
While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, Los Angeles Police Department officials do not believe drugs or alcohol had any role in the crash.

End-of-the-year movie awards season is in full swing as we see the release of a film focused on a profession that has had a complex Hollywood history. Often these characters are heroes or villains, with minimal “grey area”. It’s not the police or politicians or even used car dealers. This weekend’s new release is set in the courts, and it’s not basketball, rather the lead is a lawyer. Many times they’re portrayed as sleazy, corrupt “ambulance-chasers”. Or they’re noble ” seekers of the truth” ala’ ninety-plus defender of the innocent Perry Mason, who made a huge impact on TV after becoming an icon in “dime novels”, early “talkies”, and radio. But this film isn’t from the pen of his creator Gardner or the current courtroom scribe,...

The Burial is a not-so-great title; it sounds like a horror film. I hope it doesn’t keep people away from this highly entertaining, crowd-pleasing movie that otherwise is an example of what good old fashioned Hollywood filmmaking can still be all about in the right hands. It feels bigger than life, but it is based on some pretty big lives indeed.
This lively courtroom true story has taken awhile to get to its closeup. Inspired by a November 1999 New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr, The Burial, which provides choice lead roles for Oscar winners Tommy Lee Jones and Jamie Foxx, has taken a long circuitous route to production. Directors like Jonathan Demme and Ron Howard were in and out along the way until it finally wound up in the hands of Maggie Betts, best known for 2017’s wildly different religious drama Novitiate.

“Succession” star Alan Ruck has no interest in working on an independent film during the SAG-AFTRA strike despite some projects being granted a waiver to continue production.
“I’d feel funny about that,” the actor told TheWrap. “I mean, I understand that they have a different agreement with the guild and I wouldn’t look down on anybody that did that, but I don’t think I would personally. It’s Day 5 of the SAG-AFTRA strike and Day 79 of the WGA strike.
Rachel McAdams, The Simpsons’ James L. Brooks, Succession duo Alan Ruck and Justine Lupe, Jaleel White, who played Steve Urkel, and spiritual advisor/Presidential candidate Marianne Williamson were some of the broad range of people out on the picket lines across LA.
This comes after the East Coast represented the striking actors and writers with the likes of Bette Midler and Kevin Bacon.
Mean Girls star Rachel McAdams, who recently starred in Fxx comedy Dave, was walking the picket line outside of Netflix. She told Deadline, “I’m out here to support the unions. I think what they’re asking for is totally within reason.”

Alan Ruck was ready to get in a workout when he found out he’d been nominated for an Emmy.
The actor tells Deadline that he answered a call from his manager, who himself was enjoying a vacation in Italy, as he drove to the gym. “So he started to tell me in an Italian accent,” Ruck joked.
This Emmy nomination is a career first for Ruck, who is being recognized for his role as Connor Roy in the final season of HBO’s Succession. His is one of 27 nominations that the show received on Wednesday morning — the highest of any show this year. That includes 14 acting nominations.
Ruck is joined in the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category by Succession cast members Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen and Alexander Skarsgård. Macfadyen, who took home the trophy last year, was among the first to reach out to Ruck and congratulate him.

Well, it won’t be long now before we’ll know the Primetime Emmy nominees. Wednesday morning is mere hours away. Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we wonder how many acting nominations “Succession” can score on a restricted ballot.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s the Friday before we make our final Emmy nominations predictions next week, so what better time than now to take one last look at the drama race before our actual last look? I’m not sure if people reading our weekly column realize this, but we both loved “Succession.” It’s true! I would say it’s not just my favorite show of the year but perhaps of forever. So I start here with that bit of throat-clearing to give some perspective on what I’m going to type here: I think people might be underestimating the total number of acting...

In 2022 “Succession” made history by earning 14 acting nominations at the Emmys. That’s the most any show has ever received in a single year. That number was especially remarkable as it came from 16 acting submissions on the Emmy ballot, meaning only two submitted performers failed to make the cut (supporting actor Alan Ruck and guest actor Justin Kirk). In 2023 the show has submitted more actors for consideration (19). So will the show break its own record by earning 15 or more acting noms?

It’s hard to say goodbye to an ensemble cast as talented as Succession’s. Even though we won’t get to see them perform together every week, at least we can find comfort in knowing that this isn’t the last time we’ll see these actors share their talents with the world. While many movie and TV productions are on hold right now due to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers’ (AMPTP) inability to meet the Writers Guild of America’s (WGA) reasonable terms, there are still several upcoming projects featuring the incredibly skilled members of Succession, both on the stage and the screen, that are worth keeping an eye on.

Succession star Alan Ruck reveals in an exclusive with uInterview his thoughts on the show’s finale.
While he did enjoy acting on the show he noted that, “[creator] Jesse [Armstrong]’s right to end it now. I think we’ll go out on a real high. I think it’s the best season we’ve done, really, and then we’ve done some pretty good stuff, you know. But I think it’s our best season. I think he’s smart to end it now, we’ll go out on a high note. I’ll miss everybody but that’s how it goes.”
Ruck has played Connor Roy since the show started in 2018. His character is the eldest son of Logan Roy and Logan’s first wife, whom he divorced. Throughout the show, he and his siblings, Roman, Kendall and Shiv, fight for control of their father’s company, Waystar Royco.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “With Open Eyes,” the series finale of HBO’s “Succession,” now streaming on Max.
Connor Roy was interested in politics at an early age — but Alan Ruck isn’t convinced. “He can say anything he wants to say, but just because he was interested doesn’t mean he’s knowledgeable.”
Still, in his mid-50s, Connor’s interest is finally becoming a reality — with a catch. In the finale of HBO’s acclaimed drama “Succession,” from creator Jesse Armstrong, Ruck’s character is poised to become the next ambassador to Slovenia, provided that Jeryd Mencken actually becomes president. But his new wife Willa (Justine Lupe) drops a bombshell: She will be staying in New York (in Logan’s old apartment) while Connor carries out his duties abroad.

Note: The following contains spoilers up through “Succession” Season 4 Episode 8.
“Alas Kentucky, alas vanity” is a line that sums up Connor Roy’s presidential ambitions in “Succession.”
In the HBO drama series’ eighth episode, titled “America Decides,” the eldest Roy child was forced to concede in his failed bid for the United States’ highest office that was doomed from the start. And in normal Roy family fashion – Connor did so with an inflammatory speech:
“My fellow Americans, it’s becoming clear tonight, that as far as we can tell, Mr. Jeryd Mencken will likely be the next president of the United States. And I, for one, wish him well. For although I set out a clear and compelling path, America, in her divine wisdom, has chosen to take another,” Connor said. “I’d like to say to my first running mate, who I will not dignify with a name-check, but...

After co-starring in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," one of the most memorable and beloved teen comedies of the 1980s, Alan Ruck carved out a terrific career as a character actor in projects like "Speed," "Twister," and "Spin City" before being cast in one of his most career-defining roles: Connor Roy on HBO's "Succession." Over the course of four seasons, Connor has evolved into a compelling combination of privilege and delusion, a man living in the shadow of a towering father figure who desperately wants to gain his own little foothold in the halls of the ultra-powerful.
But that wasn't always the case. Looking back at the pilot episode, Connor feels like the Roy child with the least amount of personality, and in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, co-star Kieran Culkin (who plays Roman) specifically praised Ruck for breathing life into that character in a significant way. Calling all Emmy voters: The men of “Better Call Saul” are staging a comeback.
Jonathan Banks earned his first Emmy nomination for portraying the dangerous and methodical fixer Mike Ehrmantraut on “Breaking Bad” in 2013. Since then, he’s earned four additional Best Drama Supporting Actor bids for his portrayal of the character on the AMC series’ acclaimed prequel “Better Call Saul.” In 2015, his first bid for the spin-off entered him in the history books: He became the first actor to be nominated in the category for three different shows (he received a nomination in 1989 for his performance as Frank McPike on the CBS drama “Wiseguy”). Six years later, in 2021, Giancarlo Esposito, Banks’ co-star on both “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” became the second actor to do it after earning bids for playing drug kingpin Gustavo Fring on both series before snagging a nom for his turn as the villainous...

Bueller…Bueller…oh, and Cameron, too! Ferris Bueller’s Day Off stars Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck recently sat down for a one-on-one conversation to discuss a variety of topics, most importantly John Hughes’ 1986 comedy. But its status as a teen movie classic may not have happened without the pair’s work in the theater.
After some banter about plague masks, Ruck told Broderick, “I’m not blowing smoke up your ass, but I owe you a lot,” causing confusion. Clarifying, Ruck said, “If there was no Matthew Broderick, there probably wouldn’t have been a Biloxi Blues, and that was a major springboard for me,” referring to the stage production of Neil Simon’s play, which Broderick would later star in the movie adaptation of. “If it wasn’t for Biloxi Blues, Ferris Bueller wouldn’t have happened for me. He is the eldest son but that status didn’t afford Connor Roy very much in terms of his father Logan’s love and affection. So when Connor was finally told during Sunday’s instant classic episode of “Succession” that Logan (Brian Cox) had died, the Roy family afterthought could only be honest. “He never even liked me,” Connor said before batting away that feeling of despair.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly this week about the episode and his performance, Connor actor Alan Ruck said he wasn’t initially sure how to play the scene.
“I thought, I don’t think I would have burst into tears immediately, and been inconsolable, and a big puddle on the ground. I just think it was a moment of shock,” Ruck said. “This is the thing that has been foremost in Connor’s mind, I’ve got to get the old man to be proud of me,...

[This story contains spoilers for Succession season four, episode three, “Connor’s Wedding.”]
In a show rife with incisive insults, so cutting that they hit beyond the bone, Connor Roy’s (Alan Ruck) reaction to news of his father’s passing stands out as one of the most pained pieces of dialogue in Succession history: “Oh, man. He never even liked me.”
You can forgive Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) eldest son for his wounded outburst, if not for his grandiose run at the highest elected office in all the land — though even then, Connor’s next words about his dad speak to his unlikely fixation on the presidency: “I never got the chance to make him proud of me.” It’s an emotionally exhausted scene in an emotionally exhausting episode, delivered by a gaunt Alan Ruck, embodying Connor on the other side of a life-draining event.
The day was already going to contain a life-defining event.

[The below contains spoilers for “Succession” Season 4, Episode 3.]
Not only does the death of Logan Roy whip the seven remaining episodes of “Succession” Season 4 into a frenzy, the shocking plot point also calls into question what the acclaimed HBO drama’s Emmys campaign plans are now that Brian Cox is presumably ineligible for a third Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nomination.
For however tragic it is to see the imposing patriarch fall so early into the show’s final season, it does burst open the door to even more interesting new awards prospects for “Succession.” For instance, there has already been plenty of conversation around Alan Ruck, who plays eldest son Connor Roy, finally making the cut for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, having never been nominated for his work on the past three seasons of the show.
Now, Cox too seems most likely to make a bid for that category.

Succession is one of HBO’s hottest shows. Since 2018, fans have tuned in to watch the exploits of the highly dysfunctional Roy family as they grapple with concerns over the health of the family patriarch as well as their media and entertainment company. Succession and its cast have received major critical acclaim. And now, with the recent debut of the fourth and final season, learn what’s next for the talented ensemble.

The final season of Succession premiered on March 26, and for the cast of the show as well as the fans, it is the end of an era. Kieran Culkin is one of the show’s fan favorites — and as Roman Roy, he has earned major critical acclaim. While Culkin might just be the most unexpected star to have emerged from Succession, show creator Jesse Armstrong was very confident about what the actor would bring to the table. In fact, in a recent Esquire profile, Armstrong revealed that it was Culkin who helped him realize that he was on the right path with the show.

Succession is gearing up for its latest wedding, an event that doesn’t usually yield great results for the Roy family. Whether it’s Kendall’s (Jeremy Strong) Season 1 accident or the sibling shut-out from Waystar at the end of Season 3, weddings are historically bad omens in this HBO series, so, should we anticipate something catastrophic in the upcoming third installment of the show’s final season? Considering Willa’s (Justine Lupe) cold feet for much of the previous episode, there’s always the off-chance she can’t go through with her marriage to eldest Roy sibling, Connor (Alan Ruck), but the actor’s words suggest otherwise. “Well, there are some bumps in the road,” Ruck admits, “some ups and downs with Willa and I, so it’s not a straight path, but we do wind up getting there.” One of those bumps has been Connor’s financial stability amid his run for President.

Justine Lupe was at an afterparty at a “famous musician’s house” when she realized “Succession” was a hit. It was after the second season, and there had been an HBO event. The actress, who portrays escort-turned-fiancée Willa Ferreyra, was there with a few other “Succession” cast members.
“We were sitting in this little room and Nicholas Britell came in and started playing the music for the theme song and everyone at this party just went crazy,” Lupe said. “And they’re [in] uproarious excitement about hearing the song. And I just remember [thinking], ‘Whoa, I did not know that this was in the zeitgeist.’”
By now, everyone knows the opening tinkle of that discordant piano. The fourth and final season of the hit series about a family of absolutely awful people doing absolutely awful things is absolutely the drama of the moment. Fans obsess over the music and every little detail of the show.

Succession‘s final season is here, and with it comes the impending conclusion we can only try to predict at this point. Luckily, TV Insider caught up with the illustrious cast of the HBO hit during their New York-based press junket where they offered some crumbs about the show’s ending. And by crumbs, we mean three words or less, and in some cases, a few more words. In the video above, Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun, and J. Smith-Cameron tried their best to approach the topic with a flurry of “um’s” before they finally were able to formulate some teasing answers. “Startling,” said Smith-Cameron, who plays Gerri, kicking off the responses. (Credit: HBO) Ruck followed up by saying what awaits is “surprising.” And Strong, who portrays fan-favorite Kendall, offered a few extra words than requested, simply stating that it’s “a...

It was announced last month that the soon-to-be-released fourth season of Succession would be the last for the HBO series, but the cast has known that for quite some time. Alan Ruck, who plays Connor Roy in the series, told Empire why he thinks it’s the right time to bring Succession to an end.
“The truth is, we’ve all known on the show since June,” Alan Ruck said. “And I think it’s the right time to end it in terms of the struggle to see who’s going to take command of this empire. A fifth season would have been drawn out, and if it just faded away, that would have been a disgrace.” Plenty of shows out there have more than outstayed their welcome, so fans should be pleased that Succession will be going out on its own terms. Prolific character actor Sean Whalen may be best known for playing Roach in Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs, but he has over 140 other screen acting credits to his name as of today, and now he’s set to make his feature directorial debut with a horror movie called Crust… a strange tale that involves a sock monster.
