Alex Heller wrote and directed “The Year Between,” and portrays Clemence, a college drop out who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Although such mental conditions are hard to capture in storytelling, Heller as Clemence takes us on the journey, coming home to torture her parents (Steve Buscemi and J Smith-Cameron) and siblings (Emily Robinson and Wyatt Oleff) as she works through the affliction.

They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.
King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.
The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.

Writer-director-star Alex Heller’s debut feature is a fictive spin on the very crisis she experienced at age 19, when she dropped out of college and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Not the weightiest screen treatment of a serious mental health issue, this drolly self-deprecating portrayal nonetheless achieves a degree of poignancy and depth within a distinctive sensibility you might call Midwestern Sardonic. After a fest run, it’s opening in limited theaters and on demand March 3.
Clemence Miller (Heller) screams “trainwreck” from the moment we first see her dragging a garbage bag across campus, haranguing everyone whose path she crosses. She then turns that alienating energy on her terrified dorm roommate (Taylor Marie Blim), who says, “You’re ruining my college experience!” The roomie has, it turns out, already informed Clem’s mother that she has spiraled into “hoarding, stealing, paranoia and shrieking.” Ergo Sherri (J. Over the last several years, mental illness has become less stigmatized than ever before. That said, there are still quite a few misconceptions about those who suffer from mental illness, and this fact is showcased in the new dramedy, “The Year Between.”
As seen in the trailer for “The Year Between,” the film follows the story of a young woman struggling with bipolar disorder. Not only is she struggling through the bouts of mania and depression that come with being mentally ill, but she also has a family filled with people who seem like they want to help but honestly have no idea how to do it.

Parents don't always expect their children to thrive, and it's normal and actually somewhat common for young adults to return to where they grew up to live for a short time before they find their footing. But some children may be predisposed to not living up to expectations, and that may be through no fault of their own. The Year Between humorously explores the misadventures of Clemence (Alex Heller) recently diagnosed as bipolar. Clemence is presented as a walking nightmare, wreaking havoc wherever she goes...

The movies have given us man-children for decades, dating back to Carl Reiner’s “The Jerk,” leading all the way to a bumper crop of “dudes stuck in arrested development” productions through the 2000s and 2010s: “Cyrus,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up,” “Adult Beginners,” “The Comedy,” “Step Brothers,” “Jeff Who Lives at Home.” Alex Heller’s feature debut, “The Year Between,” descends from this overdone tradition and leaves a new wrinkle on the formula: Bipolar disorder, a formidable condition characterized by extreme mood swings and thus a clear goldmine for slacker burnout comedy.

The remake of Dario Argento’s psychedelic 1977 horror film Suspiria seems to still be moving forward. This film has been in development for years. It started off with David Gordon Green at the helm, and then when he dropped out, a director by the name of Luca Guadagnino stepped in to take his place. He previously talked about the film:
"The film by Dario Argento was a very indicative moment of growing up for me because I saw it when I was 14. I think it changed me forever. I was obsessed [with Argento] through all my adolescence. [My version] is going to be set in Berlin in 1977. It’s going to be about the mother and the concept of motherhood and about the uncompromising force of motherhood. It’s going to be about finding your inner voice – the title is very evocative on these grounds."

The remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria has long been in limbo, but with the directing reigns on the film being passed from David Gordon Green to Luca Guadagnino last year, new progress on the project is now being made, as a recent Q&A with Guadagnino reveals key casting for the movie.
According to a recent tweet (via Bloody Disgusting) by film journalist Alex Heller-Nicholas, Guadagnino revealed in a Q&A that Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive, Snowpiercer) and Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, Black Mass) are lined up to star in the Suspiria remake that will be set in Berlin circa 1977.
Heller-Nicholas’ tweet about the Q&A also mentions that Guadagnino would like John Adams to compose the music for the remake, which he says will be “the most Fassbinderian of his films” (a reference to writer/director/actor Rainer Werner Fassbinder).
