Lenny Kravitz is scheduled to perform on Friday when President Joe Biden headlines his first reelection fundraiser in Los Angeles, according to the invite.
The event is hosted by designer Michael Smith and James Costos, the former U.S. ambassador to Spain, with a list of co-hosts that include Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, Martha Karsh and Wendy Schmidt. First Lady Jill Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also are scheduled to appear.
This will be the president’s first trek to Los Angeles for a fundraising swing since announcing reelection in April. He skipped Los Angeles during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, out of concern over raising money at the time of the work stoppage.
Others chairing or hosting the event include Ted Boutrous and Helen Boutrous, Rick Caruso and Tina Caruso, Peter Chernin and Megan Chernin, Morgan Cox and Derrall Hill Jr., John Emerson and Kimberly Marteau Emerson,...

Donald Trump’s election conspiracy case may be billed as the trial of the century, but as things stand, the public won’t have any way of seeing or hearing it — save for going to the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse in Washington, D.C., waiting in line and hoping for a seat.
Federal criminal courts long have prohibited cameras or recording devices of any kind, but the momentous nature of the Trump case already has seen Capitol Hill lawmakers argue for an exception, and a coalition of major news organizations is expected to make some sort of appeal to the judicial branch.
Yet as unlikely as Depp/Heard-like live coverage of Trump’s federal case seems, given futile efforts so far to secure camera or audio of the proceedings, legal experts say that there are other options that would at least expand what is available.
Other options include:
Audio coverage.

3rd Update, 8:39 Pm Pt: California Governor Gavin Newsom was projected to defeat an effort to recall him from office, beating back an effort by Republicans to score a victory in the deeply blue state. CNN and NBC News called the race about 40 minutes after polls closed, with indications of a lopsided and blowout victory for the “no on recall” side. The networks had held off on projecting the race until they could discern the trendlines of election day vote. Just a month ago, polls showed the race close among likely voters. But the race seemed to change as Newsom was able to sound the alarm that he could be ousted from office and replaced by Larry Elder, a supporter of Donald Trump. The latest results show the No on Recall garnering 2/3 of the vote. If the margin holds, that would be even larger than Newsom’s lead in the 2018 election.

Rachel Maddow is still talking with MSNBC about a new contract, but the primetime host and her current cable news home just scored what might be a bonding Tko against One America News Network.
Reaffirming the decision by a San Diego-based U.S. District Court last year to toss out the conservative outlet’s $10 million defamation lawsuit against Maddow and MSNBC, a trio of appeal court judges has advised the Robert Herring Sr.-founded Oan to chill the hell out.
“Turning to the merits, the panel held that Maddow’s statement was well within the bounds of what qualified as protected speech under the First Amendment,” said the summary of the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit’s opinion on Tuesday of Maddow’s July 2019 quip that Oan was “the most obsequiously pro-Trump right-wing news outlet in America really literally is paid Russian propaganda.”

Harvey Weinstein is still facing potential life behind bars in the rape case in New York City, but the disgraced producer succeeded today in having Ashley Judd’s sexual harassment claim against him tossed to the legal curb.
However, with a trial penciled in for 2020 before U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez, Judd’s allegations against the much accused Weinstein for defamation and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage are still standing – so don’t think this is over, at all.
What is truly over, after being dropped from the case once before and then added in amended paperwork, is the spotlight attracting the sexual harassment aspect of the matter. Like back in September, when the federal judge first declared that a 1990s hotel room encounter in which Weinstein allegedly attempted to physically assault Judd did not fit the legal definition of workplace sexual harassment.

CNN's Jim Acosta may or may not regain regular access to the White House as a result of the lawsuit filed Tuesday. But if President Donald Trump chooses to stand firm on the position that the White House has the right to deny Acosta a "hard pass" to regularly attend briefings, his administration better be prepared for a new ball game of transparency in its relationship with the press.

A representative for actress Ashley Judd, one of Harvey Weinstein’s first public accusers, has released a court filing in response to Weinstein’s recent attempt to dismiss her defamation lawsuit against him, calling the plea a “baseless and offensive study in misdirection.”
“Harvey Weinstein’s motion to dismiss is a baseless and offensive study in misdirection that demonstrates his malicious and reckless disregard for the law and for Ms. Judd’s rights to be free from sexual harassment and retaliation,” said Gibson Dunn litigator Ted Boutrous on Judd’s behalf. “It ignores and misstates key allegations in the complaint, impermissibly cites (contradictory) extrinsic evidence, and relies heavily on cases interpreting a statute that has nothing to do with this case. Weinstein also makes the bizarre argument that he purportedly sought to advance Ms. Judd’s career as part of a ‘deal’ for sex that Weinstein presents as real — rather...

If one were to rank Harvey Weinstein's greatest threats at the moment, New York prosecutors looking to send him to jail for the rest of his life probably are tops. Next might be the insurance companies who refuse to pay his mounting legal bills. Then, there's noted Gibson Dunn litigator Ted Boutrous, who represents actress Ashley Judd and clearly has a talent for the poison pen.
On Friday, Boutrous provided Judd's opposition to Weinstein's motion to dismiss her lawsuit. It starts off with a flourish.

Updated with statement from Ashley Judd’s attorney
Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers are urging a federal court judge to throw out Ashley Judd’s civil suit, arguing that too much time has passed for her to bring a legal claim seeking damages for allegedly ruining her career.
Judd sued Weinstein in April, arguing that the once-powerful Hollywood producer sabotaged her chances of landing a role in the blockbuster The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in 1998. The singer and actress claimed Weinstein retaliated against her after she rejected his sexual demands a year earlier, when he allegedly cornered her in a hotel room under the guise of discussing business.
“Weinstein torpedoed Ms. Judd’s incredible professional opportunity when he told (director Peter) Jackson and (production partner Fran) Walsh that the studio had had a ‘bad experience’ with Ms. Judd and that Ms. Judd was a ‘nightmare’ to work with and...
