Akshay Kumar & Ajay Devgn Started Their Careers In 1991 ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Ajay Devgn is celebrating his 55th birthday on April 2, and Maidaan makers have released the final trailer of the film to mark the occasion. As festivities have already begun after the trailer leaves a huge impact on the audiences, it brings the most important question to the table – Will Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff‘s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan survive this storm at the box office?
Interestingly, Ajay and Akshay have been connected together since their debut films. While we compare their opening films at the box office, we see that Ajay Devgn won the battle despite Akshay having the modeling advantage and arriving months earlier than Ajay.

Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan Needs To Earn 732 Crore To Match His First Superhit
It was 33 years ago that Ajay Devgn made his debut on the silver screen, standing on two bikes, and the actor has never looked back. He made a roaring debut with Phool Aur Kaante, a film that initially starred Akshay Kumar, but the Khiladi was replaced overnight. Devgn, on the other hand, tasted phenomenal success with the film that collected crores at the box office. His recent offering, Shaitaan, needs to earn at least 732 crore to match Ajay’s first box office success.
Phool Aur Kaante was an action film that put Ajay right there on the pedestal, along with other superstars. The film also starred Madhoo and was the first superhit of Ajay’s career. The box office statistics and figures of this film are surprising as well as impressive.

Kiran Rao‘s sophomore Laapataa Ladies is a socially relevant tale that navigates the delicate balance between hope and despair, crafting an engaging narrative of fate and empowerment. Dealt with a sharp eye for humor and poignancy, the narrative sheds light on the stifling conditions of patriarchal values. The pivotal events in the film unfold like a series of comically absurd occurrences. But these moments appear plausible because there is a refreshing simplicity, eschewing heavy-handed exposition in favor of subtle exploration. With blistering clarity, the film tackles the underlying practice of age-old traditions, wherein the message within the dramedy of two women in distress never overpowers the overall progression of the story. Rao endows the characters of the film with a sincerity that is resonant in its tone. As they navigate their despairing journey, it reaffirms the value of their existence and the possibility of a life lived with dignity...

New Delhi, March 1 (Ians) Women-centric movies often end up highlighting stereotypes and essentialising people who belong to different gender communities.
But if, as protagonists in a narrative, women get to focus on or are oriented towards issues that confine them to pigeonholes, and also underline their experiences, perspectives and needs, it can truly be called a gynocentric film.
After wowing cinephiles with her directorial debut in ‘Dhobi Ghaat’, Kiran Rao tells a story in ‘Laapata Ladies’ that does not necessarily define feminism, or deal with it, but it sure delights both men and women with nuggets that describe a variety of facets of our lives, including policies, media, art, and organisations that prioritise the voices and concerns of women.
Set in 2001, somewhere in rural India in a fictional place named Nirmal Pradesh (though shot in Madhya Pradesh), ‘Laapata Ladies’ (Lost Ladies) is about Phool (Nitanshi Goel) and Jaya (Pratibha Ranta...

Laapataa Ladies
Directed by Kiran Rao
It is all about how ‘veil’ you know your bride. The ghunghat is a separate character in Kiran Rao’s masterpiece, a sparkling gem of a film where the minor flaws – for instance, some initial gags on rusticity that seem too touristic—only enhance the feeling of a flawed gem , that rare kind of creation that shines with a genuine spark.
Nothing seems overdone or filmy in Laapataa Ladies, not even Ravi Kishan’s priceless paan-chewing police officer who talks through his stuffed mouth with just that bit of intelligibility that doesn’t make him annoying.
This is Kishan’s best in years. But then, let’s not forget: he is in an extraordinary film about very ordinary people placed in most extraordinary circumstances.
Just think: Phool (Nitanshi Goel) and Jaya (Pratibha Ranta) are two brides in identical wedding sarees and in identical ghunghats...

Editor’s note: This review was originally published at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, with the film’s English title “Lost Ladies.” Since then, the film was released wide in India and now streaming on Netflix as “Laapataa Ladies.”
It only takes a few minutes for Kiran Rao’s “Laapataa Ladies” (“Lost Ladies”) to reveal the true meaning of its title.
Jaya (Pratibha Ranta) and Phool (Nitanshi Goel) are two new brides who wind up in the same Indian cross-country rail car, faces hidden behind identical red marital veils on the night they become fatefully laapataa. Phool’s husband Deepak (Sparsh Shrivastava) accidentally wakes Jaya in the night and takes her home to his village, while Phool is ushered off the train by Jaya’s husband and abandoned at a railway station.
There are multiple Hindi words for “lost,” each with designated usage. There’s haarna, the infinitive for losing...

When Phool (Nitanshi Goel) almost trips while rushing to the train station to accompany husband Deepak (Sparsh Shrivastava) to her new home because of the veil covering her face, she’s told by her mother to pay attention to her feet. The woman tells her that’s the point of the veil––learning how to be a dutiful wife who stays quiet and always looks down. It’s about her modesty, his power. And it’s a tradition to which every newlywed on that train is beholden. So when a crowded compartment and Deepak’s need to use the restroom combine with the late hour and unavoidable fatigue, it shouldn’t be a surprise when he accidentally wakes the wrong woman in his hurry to catch the last bus.

In a new cover story for GQ’s February-March issue, writer Ankur Pathak meets with actor Ajay Devgn. During their conversations, Ajay Devgn talks about how he is constantly trying to improve in his next film, the judgements about his appearance, and his massive stardom despite the Khan era.
When asked about his assessment of his own successes Ajay Devgn says, “There’s no one line explanation to what works. Can you specifically point out what’s working with ‘Pathaan’?”
What others say doesn’t affect Ajay, he continuoius his ideology, “They said, oh, he’s the son of a fight master (Veeru Devgan), he won’t make it; oh, he is very average-looking, he won’t last. And yet, ‘Phool aur Kaante’ worked. What was it that did? The action, the music, the performances, or the storyline? One doesn’t know. But something clicked. Nothing works in isolation; it...
