The world was shocked when gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from numerous events during the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics — especially considering the fact that she was the clear front-runner for several gold medals. However, at the same time, Biles was struggling with her mental health. Rather than push herself to the brink, she decided to withdraw from the competition. Four years later, Biles has unfinished business, and upcoming doc series Simone Biles: Rising offers an intimate look at the story behind it all.
Directed by Katie Walsh with executive producers Gotham Chopra, Ameeth Sankaran, Giselle Parets, and Janey Miller with Religion of Sports (McGregor Forever) in association with the Olympics Channel, the four-episode series chronicles Biles’ preparations to resume her position at the top.

Simone Biles has shared the emotional toll that the Tokyo Olympics had on her.
While appearing on Wednesday’s episode of podcast Call Her Daddy, the athlete opened up about her mental state during her vault performance, where she got the twisties—a term for when gymnasts lose their perceptual awareness of their body’s position while spinning in the air.
“We already knew my gymnastics was janky, like, in training I was having twisties already,” recalled Biles. “But [at the moment], I’m trying to push past that and I would literally tell my teammates, ‘I’m fighting demons right now but I’m going to do it for you guys.'”
She explained that she felt like she was “fighting” her body and mind to perform the tricks and tried out some alternate maneuvers while practicing but was still not feeling certain about how her Olympics competition would go.

A tale of disability, abuse, expectations and family secrets, “She Looks Like Me” from director Torquil Jones has a headstart on most documentaries, given its subject matter’s winding twists and turns. Some key details end up obscured — there’s enough real-life material here to fill an entire miniseries — but the film has an alluring atmosphere, and is rife with enough intimate re-enactments, to be occasionally absorbing.

The Pivot podcast host Ryan Clark has heard the discourse about what Jonathan Owens said about wife Simone Biles on an episode of his show, and he is not here for it.
In a video posted on social media, Clark recounted the conversation he had with football safety, noting that he was telling the story of how he met Biles with so much love in his eyes, and now his joke about being the catch for the gymnast is being blown out of proportion.
“Every time they looked at one another, you can tell how beautiful [their meet] was to them,” he said. “But everyone has now twisted that and taken that and made it something negative. But what people haven’t done is watch the entire show.”
He explained that Owens talked about how Biles changed his life and how as soon as they met, it was history. They were immediately connected.

2011 BBC World Sport Star of the Year winner Novak Djokovic has missed out on the award this year, with the accolade going to a younger sports player.
Djokovic, who topped the year-end tennis prize money rankings, was included on the six-person shortlist after his incredible 2023 season. He won three Grand Slams and the Atp Finals and was just a set away from winning the Calendar Grand Slam at Wimbledon.
The Serbian legend achieving those incredible feats at the age of 36 is unprecedented in men's tennis. Such an extraordinary level of excellence meant many thought a second BBC World Sport Star of the Year award was a possibility.
However, Djokovic did not even make the top three for the accolade from the six-person shortlist. He joined Olympic Gymnastics gold medallist Simone Biles and Spain's World Cup winner Aitana Bonmati in missing out on the top three.
The award was given to footballer Erling Haaland.

Novak Djokovic had one hell of a year and was nominated for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year Award because of it.
2023 was a pretty decent year in sports, with many great things happening. Novak Djokovic was part of that 'Wrapped' with a few highlights, such as winning three Grand Slams, which put him at the top of most singles Grand Slam trophies ever.
That was not the only thing Djokovic did, as his list of achievements is far longer. He finished the year with a 57-7 record and seven trophies in his cabinet. That's the most trophies out of all players, which is fascinating, considering he doesn't play a full calendar.
He also finished the year as number one, which was an incredible achievement considering that, again, he doesn't play the full calendar. It just shows how efficient he is with the events he plays. If he plays it,...

Simone Biles just won herself a new national title and made history.
The athlete delivered a strong performance at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in San José, California and scored her eight-national title.
“I’ve been doing it for so long, I feel like I don’t think about numbers. I think about my performance,” Biles told NBC Sports. “I think overall, I hit 8 for 8 (clean events). So eight, I guess it’s a lucky number this year.”
Biles broke a tie with Alfred Jochim who held the record up since 1933 — 90 years ago. At 26 years old, the Olympic medalist also became the oldest woman to win the championships. Biles ended up with 3.9 points ahead of Shilese Jones.
On her goals, she said, “I like to keep them personal, just so that I know what I’m aiming for. I think it’s better that way. I’m trying to move...

Biles, 26, is now the oldest woman to win a national title in the 60 years since USA Gymnastics organized the event. With Sunday’s win, she surpassed Alfred Jochim, who won seven titles from 1925 to 1933.
“I don’t think about numbers,” Biles said, as quoted by the Associated Press. “I think about my performance. And I think overall, I hit 8 for 8. I guess it’s a lucky number this year.”

Simone Biles won the U.S. Classic on Saturday night, returning to action following a two-year layoff after the Tokyo Olympics.
Biles’s competition future was in doubt after she dropped out of the Tokyo Olympics after suffering a case of “the twisties,” a spatial disorientation neurological problem that forced her to take herself out of multiple events in Japan.
Wearing a black-and-white bedazzled leotard, the 26-year-old Biles saw signs being held in support by the sold-out crowd. Her all-around score of 59.100 was easily the best of the night.
Wearing No. 231 and sporting a necklace bearing “Owens” in tribute to her new husband, NFL cornerback Jonathan Owens, Biles began her night on the uneven bars. She wasn’t perfect, nearly stalling near the end of her routine, but hit her dismount.
Her score on the uneven bars of 14.000 was the third-best of the competition.
