Toby Keith, whose history with the CMT Music Awards goes back to having co-hosted the earliest incarnation of the show, will get his due in the wake of his recent death, as an all-star salute is planned for Keith on Sunday night’s three-hour CBS telecast.
The tribute will feature performances by one of the hottest figures in country music, Lainey Wilson, along with his fellow industry veterans Brooks & Dunn, whose Ronnie Dunn is a fellow Okie. Rocker Sammy Hagar, who featured Keith on an episode of his TV series “Rock & Roll Road Trip” in 2022, will join the lineup paying homage.
Set for what’s being billed as special appearances saluting the late singer are Lukas Nelson and Roger Clemens. Nelson’s father, Willie, had a smash duet with Keith, “Beer for My Horses.” Baseball legend Roger Clemens’ friendship with Keith included the singer inducting the ballplayer into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.

If you’ve attended a mainstream country concert in the past decade, you’re probably familiar with the part of the set where the headliner sprinkles in a non-obvious cover from an adjacent genre like pop, R&b, or classic rock. It’s a move with any number of purposes: to show an artist’s range of influences, to reel in a drifting crowd with a massive hit, to appeal to a wider audience, or to highlight how fluid and arbitrary genre borders really are when you strip a song back to its essentials.

Country music chart-topper and bona fide superstar Sam Hunt took time off from travelling North America on his Outskirts Tour to chat with Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante about his life as a new dad, touring with his family and what his daughter thinks of his country tunes.
“I think they’re enjoying it so far,” said Hunt, who welcomed his first-born daughter Lucy Louise last year with his wife, Hannah Lee Fowler. “I definitely threw them in the deep end with a two-week right off the bat.”
On the difficulties of long travels while touring, Hunt opened up about managing days with multiple flights, explaining that when he was in Calgary, his wife and daughter stayed in New York instead of joining him because he had to undergo two five-hour flights in 48 hours.

Sam Hunt‘s going to be a father of two. The “Make You Miss Me” singer on Friday night announced at his Las Vegas concert that he and his wife, Hannah Lee Fowler, are expecting baby No. 2.
An eyewitness at Resorts World Theatre tells Et the country music crooner told the crowd during his performance that he has baby No. 2 on the way. He also went on to say that Hannah and his 10-month-old daughter, Lucy Lu, were joining him in Vegas this weekend. Hunt is scheduled to perform another show Saturday night at the same venue.
Et has reached out to Hunt’s rep for comment.
The surprise announcement comes nearly a year after Hunt and Hannah welcomed their daughter. That announcement — made on stage while headlining a charity concert in Nashville, Tennessee — came just weeks after Hannah called off their divorce, which she filed for back in February 2022 citing “irreconcilable differences.

In case you haven’t heard, season 23 of “The Voice” will be Blake Shelton‘s last. Blake has been one of four coaches on the long-running singing competition series since it began in 2011. He is not only the longest-tenured coach at the full 23 seasons so far, but also boasts the most wins with nine, including in season 22 with Bryce Leatherwood. Needless to say, Blake’s red chair, cowboy boots, and alcohol-filled cup (allegedly) will be hard to fill by anyone else, but there must be a replacement. We think the void can only be filled by someone with enough country music cachet to match Blake’s and so we’ve compiled a list of 16 industry stars that would fit the bill. Scroll through our gallery of potential Blake replacements above (or click here for direct access).

Last year I wrote a piece dissecting the last few Best New Artist Grammy winners, and I classified Meghan Trainor as one of the artists “cursed” by the sometimes-infamous award. Since then it seems like the tide has somewhat turned, with Trainor notching another major hit in late 2022 with “Made You Look,” thanks to a perfectly-executed TikTok campaign that most artists should take notes from. “Made You Look” certainly didn’t change things completely, as its parent album hasn’t really make a splash outside of that song, but it does make me reconsider Trainor’s career. With all that in mind, let’s take a look at how Trainor won the Grammy, and perhaps why she hasn’t repeated that awards success despite a couple more hits.

Kane Brown is currently sitting comfortably at the top of the charts with his newest single, “Thank God”, featuring his wife, Katelyn, but the accomplishment is only motivating the 29-year-old country star to write another one with a darker tone.
