The January 6th Committee hearing on Wednesday might include clips of another documentary, this one on Roger Stone, the informal adviser to Donald Trump, in which he says before the 2020 election: “F*ck the voting. Let’s get right to the violence.”
CNN interviewed the Danish filmmakers behind the project and aired some of the clips on Monday.
The filmmakers had been subpoenaed by the committee earlier this year and came to an agreement to share some of the footage. They had been following Stone around for several years for the documentary project, which has yet to be released.
In one of the clips, from months before the election, Stone talks about rejecting the results, predicting that the election will “not be normal” and saying, “If the electors show up at the Electoral College, armed guards will throw them out.”

Normally, a subpoena from a committee investigating insurrection is the sort of thing that could really ruin your life, or at least mess with your afternoon plans.
In the case of Alex Holder’s documentary Unprecedented, however, having footage subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 committee was the best thing that could have possibly happened, at least in terms of visibility. So then maybe it’s the best possible thing to happen for Discovery+, which suddenly found itself with one of the summer’s buzziest offerings — a documentary with supposedly so much exclusive access to Donald Trump and his inner circle that the government demanded a sneak peek.
Yeah, Discovery+ now has a three-part series getting promotion from the halls of power, like if Aoc tweeted, “Enough about the Green New Deal, though. How about Green Eggs and Ham on Netflix?”

“Unprecedented” is a good title for a documentary series about the last six weeks of Donald J. Trump’s presidency, notably the events of January 6. You could say, and you’d be right, that nothing in the Trump presidency had much precedent, from his bombs-away talk-radio-host-in-chief habit of saying whatever the hell was on his mind to his penchant for achieving policy through chaos. But with the 2020 campaign and election, Trump topped even his own sociopathic shoot-from-the-lip self. His claim that the election had been stolen by Joe Biden effectively set the stage for the next level of alternate reality in American politics, one that we might call “Goodbye democracy, hello QAnon!”
I only wish I could say that the 149 minutes of “Unprecedented” (which dropped Sunday on Discovery+) were more unprecedented. It’s a show for anyone who feels like they haven’t spent enough time in their life watching...

“Unprecedented,” a new Discovery+ docuseries that pulls back the curtain on Trump world during the 2020 election, and in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riot, debuted Sunday with an unprecedented look at one of the most chaotic periods in American history.
Filmmaker Alex Holder was given such unfettered access to Donald Trump and his family that his footage was subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 committee, making “Unprecedented” appointment viewing for people hoping get a better sense of how the president’s inner circle responded to the attack on the U.S. Capitol. In that regard, they may be disappointed. The series shifts its focus to the Trump-fueled insurrection in Episode 3, but there’s no footage of Trump lunging at his security detail in the Beast, for instance. But there are many shocking, enraging and genuinely Wtf moments in the three-part series, which makes pretty clear that Trump doesn’t really think that...

When Donald Trump is asked about the January 6th attack on the Capitol in Alex Holder’s Discovery+ docuseries Unprecedented, he both downplays the insurrection and affirms the mob’s madness.
“Well, it was a sad day, but it was a day with great anger in our country,” Trump says, a couple months after the attack.
In their interviews, Trump’s children decline to comment on that day.
So too, does Vice President Mike Pence, albeit he has one of the most candid moments of the docuseries. About to sit for an interview six days after the siege, Pence is shown an email with the Democrats’ resolution that he invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. “Yeah, excellent,” Pence says to an aide. “Tell Zach to print me off a hard copy for the trip home.” But Pence doesn’t elaborate, and instead goes into robotic talking points.

Unprecedented, the hotly anticipated documentary about Trump’s failed 2020 reelection campaign that has drawn the interest of the Jan. 6 committee, premieres Sunday on Discovery Plus. The three-part series offers viewers a compelling, inside look at Trump’s rise in politics, the internal dynamics of a family determined to create a dynasty, their optimism leading into the 2020 election, and the disastrous aftermath of their loss.
The series doesn’t, however, offer any new revelations about or revelatory footage of Trump and his inner circle before, during, and after the events of Jan.

In Maya Duverdier and Amélie van Elmbt’s mesmerizing and immersive documentary about the Chelsea Hotel, “Dreaming Walls: Inside the Chelsea Hotel,” the filmmakers pay tribute to the last bastion of New York bohemianism and breathe memory into the walls of this iconic building; walls that would speak volumes if they could talk.
The Chelsea Hotel has long loomed large in our collective cultural consciousness, demonstrated in a snippet of archival footage, with which the film opens, of a young Patti Smith describing how the hotel was the first place she landed in New York, declaring “I always wanted to be where the big guys were.”
To underscore the point about the “big guys” that lived within those walls, Duverdier and van Elmbt utilize a hypnotic stylistic motif throughout the film, projecting images of the celebrities who spent time at the Chelsea onto the walls, almost anthropomorphizing the ghosts, or at least the spirits,...

“Unprecedented,” Alex Holder’s documentary centered around Donald Trump and his family during the final six weeks of his 2020 presidential campaign — and the ensuing Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol — comes out on Sunday, July 10. The film will be available to stream on Discovery+.
The three-part docuseries features around 11 hours of sit-down interviews with the Trump family and Mike Pence, some of which was subpoenaed as evidence in the House’s ongoing investigation of the attack on the Capitol. While it’s still unclear what exact footage is included in the documentary, Holder interviewed Trump once before the Jan. 6 riot and once after, potentially revealing Trump’s unfiltered beliefs about the 2020 election results.

The most impressive spectacle film of the summer hasn’t cost hundreds of millions of dollars nor has it employed state-of-the-art CGI to invent bizarre new worlds and fantastical creatures. It’s Sara Dosa’s documentary “Fire of Love,” an overwhelming visceral experience culled together from live and breathtaking footage filmed at active volcanos by daredevil volcanologists who tragically died decades ago.
“Fire of Love” tells the story of Katia and Maurice Krafft, who fell in love over their shared love of volcanoes and dedicated their entire lives to getting up close and personal with magma flows, acid lakes and other natural phenomena that boggle and terrify the mind — and the body doesn’t much care for them either; you can literally see the flesh peeling off of Maurice’s leg after he idly stands in boiling mud.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), one of two Republicans on the Jan. 6 committee, on Tuesday released a compilation of threatening voicemails received by his D.C. office.
The voicemails contain graphic descriptions threatening violence and death towards Kinzinger and his family. Voicemails left to lawmakers are traditionally reviewed by interns and younger staffers in Congress.
Threats of violence over politics has increased heavily in the last few years. But the darkness has reached new lows. My new interns made this compilation of recent calls they’ve received while serving in my DC office.

Reflecting on how his life has changed in the days since being subpoenaed by the committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection, “Unprecedented” documentarian Alex Holder told BBC World News that he now employs two armed guards for protection.
“My life changed about a week ago, and now I literally have two armed guards outside the studio right now that follow me around everywhere,” he said. “According to some, I’m an undercover FBI agent; some think I’m an MI6 spy; and there’s all sorts of conspiracies and threats that are coming through.”
There has been a growing concern for the safety of witnesses testifying during the Jan. 6 committee hearings – particularly those who provide evidence against former president Donald Trump. As recently as this week, the committee’s vice chairwoman Liz Cheney expressed worry for Cassidy Hutchinson following her explosive fly-on-the-wall testimony.

Alex Holder, the British documentary filmmaker who was deposed by the House committee investigating Jan. 6 regarding footage of Donald Trump he filmed for a docuseries, revealed some takeaways from the upcoming doc in an interview to air in full Thursday on “CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell.”
Holder was given exclusive and broad access to Trump in the months before and after the 2020 presidential election. He told CBS that it was an acceptable conclusion that the former president did not feel he was responsible for the violence that happened at the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 riots.
“I think what was staggering,” Holder said, when asked about what Trump said after Jan. 6, “was that he essentially gave the reason why they were there without fully understanding that he was responsible for that reason.”

“To the contrary, Alex Holder said at the outset that he would have full editorial control,” the statement reads. “The Trumps also did not request any contractual right of control, or even review, so there is none.”
The statement was released shortly after Holder completed a closed-door deposition in front of the Jan. 6 House committee, which subpoenaed footage from the documentary as part of the ongoing investigation into the events surrounding that day. In a social media post Wednesday, Holder said he “complied with a congressional subpoena to turn over footage captured during his work on a documentary series surrounding...

Updated with latest: Alex Holder, who gave a deposition to the January 6th Committee on Thursday over the Discovery+ documentary he made about Donald Trump, said that he interviewed the president twice after the attack on the Capitol.
“The first time, he did come across as quite irate and quite depressed and frustrated,” he told CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell. “The second time, which was in Bedminster, in New Jersey, he certainly came across as more jovial and content.”
In excerpts released today by CBS News, O’Donnell asked Holder whether Trump expressed any remorse after January 6.
He said that people would have to “wait and see” from the project, but “I just genuinely feel that people might have a different impression about his reaction than I might have.” When O’Donnell asked him what was “staggering” about what Trump said after the Capitol attack, Holder said that it...

In one of the first looks at footage from a documentary filmmaker embedded with the Trump family during the 2020 election cycle, the former president calls the rioters who stormed the Capitol last Jan. 6 “smart” people who were acting in justified anger over a stolen election.
“It was a sad day but it was a day where there was great anger in our country,” Trump said. “People went to Washington primarily because they were angry with an election they think was rigged. … They were angry from the standpoint of what happened in the election.

Stephen Colbert seemed confused over why some former Trump 2020 campaign staffers didn’t know there was a documentary crew filming them throughout the 2020 election, right through to Jan. 6. So, he made light of it during Wednesday’s “The Late Show” monologue, following the news that the documentary filmmaker, Alex Holder, whose team was there at the time, had been subpoenaed to testify by the Select Committee.
“There’s new information coming out every day from the panel. Yesterday, we learned that the Select Committee has subpoenaed documentary filmmaker Alex Holder, who started filming the former President in September of 2020 for a project on his re-election campaign, and filmed up to and including January 6. And he just turned over raw footage pertaining to discussions of election fraud in the 2020 election, including interviews with the former President, Mike Pence, Don Jr., Ivanka, Eric and Jared Kushner. So, the Jan. 6 committee could play...

Lawmakers on the Jan. 6 committee will likely be receiving a security detail following an increase in threats against lawmakers in the last 24 hours, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing three people involved with the investigation.
Committee member Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) warned over the weekend that the continued invocation of conspiracy theories and lies surrounding the 2020 election could lead to more attempted violence against lawmakers. “There is violence in the future, I’m going to tell you,” Kinzinger told ABC News, “Until we get a grip on telling people the truth,...

Alex Holder of Ajh Films took to Twitter to confirm the January 6th Committee had ordered he hand over content captured for the three-part series, Unprecedented. He says a “major streaming service” purchased rights to the doc last year and was due to release it this summer.
The footage was captured in the final six weeks of President Trump’s failed re-election campaign in 2021 and includes “never-seen-before” scenes from the U.S. Capitol building attack on January 6.
