Shawscope Volume One , a 10-Disc Mega-Box Set with Twelve Movies featuring Hong Kong’s biggest stars will be available December 28th from Arrow Video
After an undisputed reign at the peak of Hong Kong’s film industry in the 1960s, Shaw Brothers (the studio founded by real-life brothers Run Run and Runme Shaw) found their dominance challenged by up-and-coming rivals in the early 1970s. They swiftly responded by producing hundreds of the most iconic action films ever made, revolutionizing the genre through the hard work of top-shelf talent on both sides of the camera as well as unbeatable widescreen production value, much of it shot at ‘Movietown’, their huge, privately-owned studio on the outskirts of Hong Kong.
This inaugural collection by Arrow Video presents twelve jewels from the Shaw crown, all released within the 1970s,...

“I am going to commit murder. I am going to kill another human being. How easy it is to say, already I feel like a criminal. I’ve been thinking it over for weeks, but now that I’ve giving voice to my evil intention I feel comfortably relaxed. Perhaps the deed itself will be an anti-climax, but I think not.”
The box set Giallo Essentials featuring The Pyjama Girl Case (1978), The Fifth Cord (1971), and The Possessed (1965) set will be available November 30th from Arrow Video
Alongside the spaghetti western, the giallo is one of the most famous Italian export genres: films steeped in mystery and intrigue, delivered with stylised violence and unforgettable musical themes. The Possessed (1965) masterfully combines noir, mystery and giallo tropes in a proto-giallo based on one of Italy’s most notorious crimes. It tells the story of a depressed novelist (Peter Baldwin) in search of his...

Ryûhei Kitamura’s Versus (2000) is now available on Blu-ray from Arrow Video
A relentless one-of-a-kind sensory assault chock full of hyper-kinetic fight scenes, gangster shootouts, sword-slashing violence and gory zombie horror, Versus was a key title amongst the barrage of innovative horror and action movies that appeared as if from nowhere from Japan at the turn of the millennium, leading to a new wave of appreciation for Asian extreme cinema.
A mysterious face-off in a wooded clearing between two escaped convicts and a carload of sharply dressed yakuza holding a beautiful woman captive ends in hails of bullets and showers of blood. The location for this violent encounter is the mythic Forest of Resurrection, the site of the 444th portal of the 666 hidden gates that link this earthly domain to the netherworld and it didn t get this name for nothing. As one of the surviving prisoners escapes with the...

To celebrate the 4K Digital release of Dog Soldiers, we’re giving away an iTunes voucher.
Things are getting hairy as Vertigo Releasing re-release the classic British troops-versus-werewolves horror Dog Soldiers, with a superb 4K restoration, and stunning, newly-commissioned promotional artwork by legendary illustrator Chris Malbon, in UK cinemas and available on digital platforms this October. One of the great British horror films, and certainly one of the best werewolf films ever, Neil Marshall’s debut grossed £5 million at the box office when it was first released in 2002, and quickly became a bona fide fan favourite.
It’s The Howling meets Ultimate Force, with an irresistible mix of foul-mouthed squaddies taking on vicious werewolves, combined with plenty of blood and gore, and brilliantly effective action set pieces. With a cracking cast, including Sean Pertwee (Event Horizon) and Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting), special effects to make your hair stand on end, and endless quotable lines (“Sausages…...

The body of a young woman is found on the beach, shot in the head, burned to hide her identity and dressed in distinctive yellow pyjamas. With the Sydney police stumped, former Inspector Timpson comes out of retirement to crack the case. Treading where the real detectives can t, Timpson doggedly pieces together the sad story of Dutch immigrant Glenda Blythe and the unhappy chain of events which led to her grisly demise.

The game is afoot.
And we’re not talking about an edge-of-your-seat murder mystery typically associated with Sherlock Holmes, but the full-blown alien mayhem that’s coming our way thanks to The Predator.
Helmed by writer-director Shane Black, who knows a thing or two about the galaxy’s greatest hunter after his turn in John McTiernan’s cult classic (Black played Rick Hawkins opposite the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers), The Predator shifts the sci-fi action to suburbia where a posse of Predators begin scouring the streets in search of some ancient artifact.
What they find, however, is something entirely new, after last month’s gruesome trailer revealed the über-Predator, a being that’s clearly been stitched together in some government laboratory. So it seems the two races have a common enemy, and in honor of The Predator‘s September release, Empire Magazine has dropped a camouflage cover...

One of the major consequences of Western Europe s post-war Economic Miracle was the proliferation of international travel. Eager to tap into audiences desire to experience the glamor of the jet set lifestyle, the popular filmmakers of the day rushed to make the most of the exotic locales at their disposal.
Arguably no other giallo captured this trend as vividly as The Case of the Scorpion s Tail. The film begins in London, where Lisa Baumer learns that her husband has died in a freak plane accident. Summoned to Athens to collect his generous life insurance policy, she soon discovers that others besides herself are keen to get their hands on the money and are willing to kill for it. Meanwhile, private detective Peter Lynch arrives to investigate irregularities in the insurance claim. Teaming up with a beautiful reporter, Cléo Dupont, Lynch resolves to unearth the truth… before he too...
