Nestor Chylak was born on May 11, 1922 in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, USA. He was married to Sue Maria Shemet. He died on February 17, 1982 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, USA.

Served in the U.S. Army in WWII, and nearly lost his eyesight in the Battle of the Bulge after being struck by shrapnel.
Umpired three American League Championship Series (1969, 1972, 1973); five World Series (1957, 1960, 1966, 1971, 1977); and six All-Star Games (1957, 1960 (2), 1964, 1973, 1978).
Umpired first major league game 13 April 1954; umpired final major league game 22 July 1978.
Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999.
