It star Bill Skarsgard is out for revenge in the action thriller, Boy Kills World, which just reached theatres today (April 26th). JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray already had the chance to see the movie, giving it an 8/10 review that you can read Here – and we also had the opportunity to sit down for interviews with the film’s director Moritz Mohr, as well as cast members Famke Janssen (The Faculty), Brett Gelman (Stranger Things), Isaiah Mustafa (It: Chapter Two), and Andrew Koji (Warrior). To find out what they had to say about their experience of working on Boy Kills World, check out the video embedded above!

Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World is what happens when you toss The Hunger Games, Mortal Kombat, Happy!, and Crank into a blender. While that sounds rad, the slurry of upbeat action and nonsense plot tangles is much more baffling in execution. Mohr’s vision borrows heavily from button-mashy videogames and dystopian graphic novels, blending Cyberpunk futurism with real-world dictatorship commentaries. There’s a message about fascism and rebellion somewhere in Mohr’s madcap martial arts violence, but it’s lost under the piles of enemy corpses. Boy Kills World never knows the movie it wants to be past a killing spree, as the story makes one poor choice after the next, like a genre satire that becomes what it tries to parody.

You’ll almost immediately feel the vibes through the first two acts of Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World. Mohr’s film is a bloody, vicious kick to the solar plexus. The script drives its foot into the wound and then keeps applying pressure, almost as a way to test the audience’s resolve.
That’s where Boy Kills World may come to a crossroads for its viewership. Either you will embrace the sudden acute aggression, pressing the foot on the pedal, or you will border on torture porn violence. Or be so turned off by it to the point of completely giving up on Mohr’s film.
As for me, I’ll take Mohr’s blood-spattering dose of glorious, gory, comic carnage that would make Jackson Pollack jealous.

Since we’re now into the slow slide from Easter/Spring Break into the Summer cinema season, how about an Mma-style action thriller full of fights and daring escapes? Oh, you say we just had that in the remake of Road House just a couple of weeks ago. Well that flick, despite the director’s protests to the press, bypassed the multiplex and went right to a streaming service. And this new release almost went the same route until an Oscar-winning filmmaker saw it, bought it, and helped prep it for a wide theatrical debut. Oh, and speaking of debuts, this is the first feature directed by the star of a Best Picture Oscar winner over a dozen years ago. Yes, he was the lead in that, and he’s in the lead here as the mysterious avenger who is known as the Monkey Man. And no, he’s not another comics-based hero.

Every now and then an esteemed actor from the posh theater world decides to make the move over to movies and television to slum it with us nerds. When Carrie Coon did so in 2014 with dual TV/movie roles in Gone Girl and The Leftovers, the unwashed entertainment masses all had the same reaction: “Now where have you been all our lives?!?”
After a successful career treading the boards on Broadway, Coon is now a pop culture mainstay and we couldn’t be happier about it. The Copley, Ohio-native absolutely shines in any role she takes, no matter how prominent or minor. From Nora Durst on The Leftovers to Gloria Burgle on Fargo season 3 and beyond, Coon quite simply goes hard in the paint.
Next up, Coon will be introduced to an even wider audience than ever before with the announcement that she’ll be headlining season 3 of HBO’s The White Lotus.

Who’s the boss? That title goes to Tony Danza, of course. And even John Stamos gives him credit, despite Danza sleeping with his then-girlfriend Teri Copley…
In his upcoming memoir If You Would Have Told Me (out now – buy it here), John Stamos writes that he grew suspicious of Copley cheating on him, even visiting her house one night to check on it, spotting an unfamiliar 1957 Porsche in the driveway. “The blinds are closed, but the door is slightly open…I take a peek inside and see four feet protruding from the shabby-chic, floral-print duvet that once kept me warm. My Tiny Dancer is in bed with Mr. Porsche Speedster. They are sleeping. I can’t tell who he is, but I recognize Teri’s ass barely covered by the sheets…Do I pull him out of the bed by his hair, kick him in the nuts, and beat his ass?...

In John Stamos’ upcoming memoir, If You Could Have Told Me, he claims that back in the 1980s, he walked in on his then-girlfriend Teri Copley in bed with Tony Danza.
“I can’t explain it, but I would’ve rather been punched in the nose again or something because the pain is so overwhelming,” he told People. “Looking back, it’s like, probably, she wasn’t the right girl for me. So seeing him, realizing it was him and stuff, it was hard. I mean, it was awful.”
Stamos, 60, described when he found Copley asleep next to Danza, whom he didn’t immediately recognize.
At the sight of her in bed with another man, Stamos said he stumbled backward out of the room.
He recalled, “At first I was like, ‘I’m going to kick his…’ I didn’t know it was [Danza] yet. I see his abs. I’m like,...

The 2023 Toronto International Film Festival is underway. While this is one of the festivals where a lot of awards season contenders start getting buzz as we head into the fall and winter months, it's also a place where hidden horror gems can sneak up on you as we head into Halloween. Like many film festivals, TIFF has its own genre programming block called Midnight Madness where horror, thrillers, and the wilder side of filmmaking can be experienced. This year, a handful of titles have been getting some decent buzz, ranging from "Stranger Things" star Finn Wolfhard making his directorial debut with the slasher comedy "Hell of a Summer" to "Dream Scenario" putting Nicolas Cage into everyone's dreams and plenty in between.
Let's take a closer look at some of the horror titles drumming up noise at TIFF 2023.

In a cinematic landscape built on tried-and-true formulas, Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World dares to be different, blurring the boundaries between absurdity and adrenaline-pumping action. Written by Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers, this audacious venture is steeped in a dystopian backdrop plays by its own rules. Dive into a world where chaos meets comedy, and gory kills are an everyday thing. The film stars Bill Skarsgard, Famke Janssen, Yayan Ruhian, Sharlto Copley, Andrew Koji, Brett Gelman, Jessica Rothe, and Isaiah Mustafa.

Director Neill Blomkamp has been doing the press rounds recently to promote his new film Gran Turismo (read our review Here), and he doesn’t seem particularly enthusiastic when interviewers mention his first movie District 9 – which was up for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture. An interview with Uproxx got a lot of attention when it sputtered out after the interviewer tried to talk about District 9 and Blomkamp’s scrapped Aliens sequel, with Blomkamp saying along the way “I guess I am tired of talking about (District 9)”. Two and a half years ago, Blomkamp announced that he was working on a script for the sequel District 10 with Sharlto Copley and Terri Tatchell… but in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he doesn’t sound very interested in pursuing it, even if he admits that it will probably get made at some point.

Neill Blomkamp's "District 9" put the fledgling South African director on the mainstream map in 2009. With a $30 million budget and "The Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson in his corner as a producer, Blomkamp expanded his fascinating social sci-fi short film "Alive in Joburg" into a feature-length discussion about racial divisions and the violence inherent in anti-immigration sentiments.
Wikus van de Merwe (Sharlto Copley) learns in the hardest way possible what South Africa's alien newcomers, derisively called "prawns," have been going through at the hands of men like him. With stunning effects and CGI characters, the film ends on a tailor-made hook for a follow-up. His ally, the alien Christopher Johnson (Jason Cope), promises to return with a cure for Wikus in three years, although it's unclear if he'll also return with an angry force at his back. We’re waiting to hear news of a release date for director Moritz Mohr’s dystopian action thriller Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgard (It) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day)… and it looks like that news might not be too far off at this point. If one extracted a considerable amount of melancholia from “Donnie Darko” and supplemented “Safety Not Guaranteed” with it, chances are the outcome will be something like Colin West’s soul-stirring sci-fi drama “Linoleum.” For a narrative this non-linear, Jim Gaffigan starrer “Linoleum” is remarkably reticent with its labyrinthine storytelling. The film’s faithfulness in staying insistently true to life is at its most appreciable glory when our lead’s self-love and self-loathing juxtapose organically. And that is a treat you’re only to relish by the time the communicative climax is knocking on the door. Not very much unlike 2022’s “Aftersun,” where you are hit with a crushing wave of emotions by the time the film ends, “Linoleum” strings you along to the quasi-spiritual culmination of memories and experiences and leaves you with as much hope as it does gloom. But it’s a journey worth taking, so let’s get on with it.

In 2009, Neill Blomkamp crafted a one-of-a-kind directorial debut with his brilliant "District 9," a film that plays out like a routine action flick but also functions as a layered socio-political allegory about xenophobia. With no shortage of dystopian sci-fi dramas that focus on alien invasions, "District 9" could have easily been lost in the shuffle due to its similar premise. However, what elevates Blomkamp's debut above standard genre fare is the gritty specificity of the film's world, which consistently manages to feel evocative of our own despite teeming with CG aliens and VFX-amped environmental elements. Instead of posing the extraterrestrials as an overt threat, the film presents them as a dwindling, malnourished race, trapped on Earth, forced to be treated as an underclass, and forever at the mercy of Multi-National United (Mnu). Here, the local enforcers exploit the alien settlement, mock their appearance and modes of communication, and instigate violent retaliation time and again.

A new image from first-time feature director Moritz Mohr’s dystopian action thriller Boy Kills World has started making the social media rounds. It’s not clear where the image originated from, but it’s cool to look at nonetheless, featuring characters who are played by Bill Skarsgard (It) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) and are covered in blood. You can check it out in the Twitter embed at the bottom of this article.
Produced by the legendary Sam Raimi, Boy Kills World was scripted by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie). The story takes place in a bizarre, dark dystopian universe and centers on a deaf and mute character, Boy (Skarsgård), who navigates this depressing world with his otherworldly imagination. Tragedy strikes when Boy’s family is brutally murdered. When his fight or flight instincts kick in, Boy finds himself on a life-threatening...

Idris Elba fights a lion. This is what Beast promises, and this is what Beast delivers. No more. No less. The purity of it — the bald-faced simplicity! — is sort of beautiful.
This is where we are in the cursed summer of 2022. We quaver with existential ennui as the planet tries to throw us off with pandemics, heatwaves, wildfires, landslides, dust storms, droughts and floods. But we can cheer in a whistling-past-the-graveyard way as Idris Elba punches a prodigious pissed-off pussycat in the, well, puss, as if to say, “Not today, Mother Nature! Not today!”
To be fair to the lion, he is absolutely correct to be pissed off: poachers killed his whole family, and tried to kill him too, so he is out for revenge. All homo sapiens are in his sights. You may want to root for the lion instead. We humans are only getting what we deserve.

Stunt coordinators and performers are an essential part of the film industry. Someone has to block, stage, and perform the larger-than-life stunts that make the "movie magic" happen! Computer-generated imagery can't match the authenticity of the real thing. Even if special effects augment a sequence, it helps a scene's believability if it's (at least) partially shot with real stunts.
Lately, there has been an ongoing movement to show appreciation for stunt artists -- like when Helen Mirren told Indiewire that the Academy Awards should honor the craft. Currently, the Oscars don't have a category for best stunts, best stunt coordination, best stunt directing, or best stunt ensemble. Although the Screen Actors Guild Awards have awards in these categories, other televised award shows like the BAFTAs still don't recognize these talented professionals.
Recently, we've seen stunt artists rise within the ranks to become filmmakers for blockbuster-action films. Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves' stunt double on "The Matrix,...

Don't hold your breath for "District 10," the sequel to Neill Blomkamp's Oscar-nominated directorial debut, "District 9," unless you're prepared to go without air for another two years or more. "District 9" first hit theaters in mid-August 2009, so it's been over 13 years now since the movie introduced Blomkamp and star Sharlto Copley to the world. Talk of a potential prequel or sequel has been bandied about ever since then, but early last year, things seemingly took a more official turn when news broke that Blomkamp and his writing partner and wife Terri Tatchell were penning the script for "District 10" with Copley.
While promoting his horror film "Demonic" last summer, Blomkamp discussed working with budget in mind while scripting "District 10" and said it would be "as stripped-down and bare bones as we could make it." In a new interview with Radio Times, however, Copley seems to indicate that...

Have you ever wanted to see Idris Elba straight up punch a lion?
Well, now all your wishes have come true as Elba is about to unleash hell(-ba) on the eponymous animal in Baltasar Kormakur’s Beast.
Set in the heart of South Africa, recently widowed Doctor Nate takes his two daughters, Mer and Norah, to the country where their late mother was raised. There they meet old family friend and wildlife biologist Martin who takes them on a tour of the reservation he manages. However, due to a recent spate of poaching, a bloodthirsty lion is out for revenge, and is headed straight for the family. Can they survive this frenzied attack?
For those who wish to compare this film to films such as The Meg, where Jason Statham punches a prehistoric shark in the nose then be rest assured Beast offers the same high-octane tomfoolery. There’s a predator,...

Major spoilers for "Beast" follow.
Director Baltasar Kormákur's "Beast" is Hollywood's latest attempt to make audiences afraid of the sheer power and ferocity of nature. The film draws influences from classic creature features like "The Ghost in the Darkness," "Jaws," and even "Jurassic Park." Its 90-minute runtime and straight-to-the-point narrative give viewers a lean, action-packed b-movie featuring A-list talent both in front of and behind the camera.
In "Beast," Idris Elba plays Nate, a father who must protect his family from a vengeful lion on a safari gone awry. Sharlto Copley joins him as Martin, Nate's best friend and resident lion expert. As usual, both actors are great. However, the film's real Mvp is the camera work. Entire sequences play out in single takes, with the camera moving in and around the action, not allowing either the characters or the audience to escape.

In an age where most movies without franchise potential are relegated to streaming, it’s refreshing to see Beast receive a theatrical release. Director Baltasar Kormȧkur delivers a lean adventure that plays well on a big screen with an engaged audience. It’s not quite Jaws with claws, but it’s a fun creature feature nonetheless.
Idris Elba stars as Nate Samuels, a widowed doctor who takes his daughters Norah and Mer on vacation to Africa to catch up with old friend Martin (Sharlto Copley). But a tour into the wild puts them at the mercy of a rogue lion that’s been spooked by poachers and is eager to defend its turf against human threats.
At just over 90 minutes, Beast is admirably focused without feeling rushed. Ryan Engle’s screenplay hints at the threat in its opening sequence, sets up the requisite family tensions, and peppers the story liberally...

Hard to believe but Summer will soon be a distant memory, so if you can’t get outta’ town before packing the kids off to school, there’s still time for a virtual “vacay” at the ole’ multiplex. Oops, maybe the tots should skip this excursion. So, is this flick set in romantic Paris, or perhaps on an exotic island? This tale has no ocean or beach, though it has a lot in common with a couple of movie islands (namely Amity and Skull). Still, there are lots of vast open areas to explore and observe the local wildlife (er…see the aforementioned isles). Yes, the wildlife couldn’t be much wilder when a getaway turns deadly when a dad out of his element must protect his daughters from a truly savage ferocious Beast.
