Clifton Stommel is an American cinematographer and illustrator best known commercially for his work for Variety, People, and Entertainment Weekly.
Clifton is the owner-operator of StommelHaus, LLC as well as co-creator of the studio StarSieve with his partner, Brigitte Roka.
He is a member of International Cinematography Guild, IATSE Local 600.
Clifton has filmed internationally for narrative and commercial directors; he was the Director of Photography for the short film Uncario in 2018, which went on to win Best Short Film at the Munich Film Awards in 2021 along with others including Best Sci-Fi and Best Cinematography at several other festivals.
As an illustrator, Clifton is best known for his collaborative work with Roka for Wizards of the Coast's Magic: The Gathering card game, as well as the expanded world building of StarSieve's original series, The Lofty Coastline.
As a self taught engineer, Clifton has developed several camera modifications and filming techniques which are a part of his unique approach to filmmaking. In 2015, Clifton independently developed and launched the first ever CFast to SSD memory interface bridge, known as the Atoch C2S, which has been sold and distributed to over one thousand Blackmagic camera users in over 40 countries worldwide.
