- Ed Silverberg passed away in his home town of Sag Harbor in the USA shortly after his 89th birthday. We know him as Hello Silberberg, the friend of Anne Frank who met with her on the last morning before she went into hiding. When Otto Frank sent him a first edition of the diary in 1947, he wrote that Hello "was the last person to see Anne in freedom".
- There was always friendly contact between Ed and the Anne Frank House over the years. Ed felt a strong connection with the Anne Frank House's mission. He found it vitally important to pass on the message of Anne Frank's life story, and the history of which it formed a part, to new generations: ultimately, it was his own story too.

- Anne was unusually articulate, compared to other girls her age. She made an impression. I became fascinated with her.
- I wasn't terribly surprised. It wasn't unusual at that time for Jewish families to disappear. I thought, 'Maybe they got away,'
- We couldn't go to the movies, we couldn't go to the parks. The only place we were allowed to go to was the Oasis, which was an ice cream parlor.
- It was a Sunday afternoon -- a very sunny day in summer. The weather was beautiful. I knocked on Anne's door, but no one was there.
