Who said the heroes’ journey can’t take a little detour? In the trailer for “We Are Lady Parts” Season 2, the eponymous female punk band decides to dabble in villainy — to endlessly entertaining results.
Created by “Polite Society” writer and director Nida Manzoor, “We Are Lady Parts” premiered in the U.K. in 2018 and in the U.S. via Peacock in 2021. IndieWire’s Steve Greene wrote at the time that “Each member of the greater Lady Parts quintet could easily handle an episode on their own,” praising a show which is “at its best when it’s breaking free from restraints, too, tossing in a bunch of playful asides and visual diversions.”
“I wanted to go bolder, sillier, darker and deeper and that is exactly what we strived to do,” Manzoor said in a press release accompanying the Season 2 trailer.

Described as a psychological thriller, Summer in the Shade tells the tale of a young girl at the time she is transitioning from child to woman and the difficulties she has with this.
Summer in the Shade’s main issue for me is what kind of film it is. As I said above, the director describes it as a psychological thriller but that suggests something at least a bit more fast-paced than this is. The pace is slower and more heavily focused on the coming of age story of Grace. This is no bad thing though, although the film then does seem unsure whether it wants to go down the horror path or not. It shows lots of hints at this but never seems to want to pull the trigger.

Cornish holiday of two 13-year-old friends is shadowed by ominous premonitions of what will become of them
It’s a sultry summer in the late 1990s and 13-year-old Grace (Niamh Walter) leaves her parents and their troubled marriage behind in London to visit Cornwall with her best friend Asta (Nyobi Hendry) and Asta’s boho-cool mum Kate (Rebecca Palmer). There are woods to mess around in, plenty of time to wonder what kissing boys will be like, and long-leash supervision from Kate who lets the girls run free. Nevertheless, the every-night’s-a-sleepover atmosphere is darkened by Grace’s menace-suffused dreams, rabbit corpses that keep popping up out of nowhere, and a handsome but intrusive male presence in the shape of Sid (Zaqi Ismail), who comes to visit. A shy, watchful only child who is having one of those adolescent religious phases, Grace is troubled by her knowledge of dad Rupert Shelbourne...

If you were busy watching England's rugby defeat last Saturday night, you missed a thrilling episode of Doctor Who, packed with moments every bit as blood-curdling as the sporting horror show. 'Under the Lake' might've suffered from a sketchily written supporting cast, but it scored with an abundance of atmosphere, great twists and some nifty sci-fi concepts.
This week, writer Toby Whithouse makes shrewd use of the two-parter format, positioning this follow-up episode as a prequel-of-sorts. But while the setting is (mostly) different, 'Before the Flood' is much of a muchness with its predecessor. It replicates many of its strengths, but also a few of its flaws.
Roughly half of the episode is set in the 1980s - a few hundred years before 'Under the Lake'. It's here that the Doctor rediscovers the spaceship left lurking in The Drum last week, and meets its oddball occupant, Prentis (Paul Kaye).

A base under siege, a Peter Andre reference, and a cracking slice of old-style Doctor Who. It's our spoiler-filled review of Under The Lake.
This review contains spoilers. Our spoiler-free review is here.
9.3 Under The Lake
"This safety message was brought to you by Vector Petroleum"
Right then. There’s an isolated base, with a diverse crew on board. There’s a threat, from which there’s no obvious sign of escape. There are corridors, which are set to be run down with as much determination as you would expect. And there’s the arrival of the Doctor and his companion, just as the fit is hitting the shan.
What do you mean you’ve seen it all before?
"You actually poo-pooed the ghost theory?"
For his first Doctor Who episode following series 7’s middling A Town Called Mercy, Being Human creator Toby Whithouse has dug deep into the stylings of classic Doctor Who.
