After Murder Party (2007), the Cannes Film Festival selected Blue Ruin (2013) and Green Room (2015) and TIFF selected Hold the Dark (2018), Jeremy Saulnier‘s fifth feature film faced the eye of multiple storms dead on. With the pandemic, casting change, this new film has been in post for just over one year now. Saulnier enlisted Aaron Pierre, Don Johnson, James Badge Dale, James Cromwell, AnnaSophia Robb, Emory Cohen, Zsane Jhe and David Denman for the Netflix backed Rebel Ridge – and while the hefty price-tag is north of many Sundance budgets we feel this make actually stick a landing here.…...

Exclusive: Netflix finally is due to get back up and running on action-thriller Rebel Ridge after an 11-month hiatus.
Filming is set to restart on April 25 in the U.S. after production came to a halt in June with the abrupt departure of star John Boyega.
The Star Wars actor left the movie mid-shoot citing “family reasons.” Speculation swirled online about Boyega’s dissatisfaction with the production, but that was denied by his reps and the streamer.
This isn’t a low-budget movie, so the lead actor exiting mid-shoot posed a significant creative, financial and practical hurdle. That’s part of the reason it has taken so long to get back underway.
Since then, Brit Aaron Pierre was cast in the Boyega role. He is known for his turns in The Underground Railroad and Krypton, and the rising actor also has Amazon’s Foe and Disney’s The Lion King...

John Boyega has dropped out of the upcoming Netflix film “Rebel Ridge” midshoot citing “family reasons,” according to a Netflix spokesperson.
“’Rebel Ridge’ is pausing temporarily as we look to recast John Boyega, who needed to leave the project for family reasons,” a Netflix Spokesperson said in a statement to TheWrap. “We remain committed to Jeremy Saulnier’s extraordinary film and look forward to resuming production. We look forward to continuing our partnership with John Boyega’s UpperRoom Productions, in addition to our upcoming film ‘They Cloned Tyrone,’ in which he also stars.”
The film commenced production in Louisiana on May 3. A replacement for the “Star Wars” headliner is underway. Production was initially supposed to begin in April of last year but was postponed due to the pandemic.
Plot details have been kept under wraps on the project that is directed by “Blue Ruin” and “Green Room” director Jeremy Saulnier.

Exclusive: John Boyega has exited Netflix movie Rebel Ridge mid-shoot with “family reasons” cited by the streamer as cause for the abrupt departure.
The production is currently paused but we understand Netflix is working hard to find a replacement for the Star Wars actor and someone is likely to be drafted in in the next few days. Filming began on May 3rd in Louisiana.

This is an unusual turn. Lead actors seldom exit projects mid-shoot. We wish Boyega well with whatever he is dealing with.

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Watchmen” Episode 1, “It’s Summer and We’re Running Out of Ice.”]
For everyone who’s known about Don Johnson’s remarkable charisma since the ’80s, let me apologize. I missed the boat with “Miami Vice” and never sunk my teeth into “Nash Bridges.”
But his fairly limited time on screen in the “Watchmen” premiere is a masterclass in charm, magnetism, or whatever mystical onscreen attribute boils down to instant likability. Much of it is Johnson’s prudent performance as Tulsa Police Chief Judd Crawford. Some of it is savvy writing, all the way up through the captain’s last-minute death. But the combination of both equate to one fact and another more troubling — and more important — afterthought: Judd was a beloved man, and it’s easy to see why. But should he be?
There are many reasons the audience is meant to like Judd — his friendship with Angela Abar (Regina King) chief among them.
