So far, over 450 international delegates have signed up for the major Nordic film confab. Only 250 will be able to attend in-person, due to Covid restrictions in Sweden.
“We’ve received a huge interest from professionals to attend in-person, following the decision of Sundance, Rotterdam and Berlin’s European Film Market to go online. It’s been very difficult to say ‘no’ to people, but our priority is to guarantee a safe event,” said Göteborg head of industry Cia Edström who underlines the various safety measures to be implemented at the Nfm, from vaccination checks,...

The third and final season of Netflix’s The Rain is almost here and if you haven’t already checked out the Danish sci-fi series then now is the perfect opportunity. So why should you make the time? Besides the fact that you’ve probably already finished fellow twisty Netflix series Dark and are looking for your next binge, this less recognised drama has a lot to recommend it. And with new episodes landing soon, there’s still time to catch up.
Without wading too far into spoiler territory, the show follows a small group of survivors living in Denmark several years after a virus has wiped out the majority of their friends and family (how far the virus has spread outside of the country or even the immediate area is unclear). In TV, it’s called a “bottle episode”: a half-hour or hour of an ongoing series that corrals a cast into a single, usually closed-off location and forces the show’s creatives/creators to work within those parameters. The Guilty, Swedish filmmaker Gustav Möller’s feature debut, sticks to a somewhat similar limited set-up. A man (Jakob Cedergren) sits in a room, behind a desk, answering a phone. His name is Asger. He didn’t always do this; once upon a time, he was a cop who worked a beat,...

Netflix has renewed its Danish sci-fi thriller “The Rain” for a second season, the streaming giant announced Wednesday. The news comes less than a month after the eight-episode first season debuted on Netflix on May 4. The second season will shoot later this year for a 2019 launch.
The first Danish original series commissioned by Netflix, “The Rain” follows two young siblings who embark on a perilous search for safety after a brutal virus wipes out most of the population.
“’The Rain’ has a relatable and human story at its core and touches on universal themes everyone can identify with,” said Kelly Luegenbiehl, vice president of international original at Netflix. “The fact that Season 1 reached audiences all over the world proves once again that strong stories can transcend borders.”

Realizing that the one thing you need to survive is also the one thing that can kill you is a daunting prospect. It’s the basic foundation of many a sci-fi dystopia, whether they take place in space, on earth, or in some other mystical realm. “The Rain,” the latest Netflix original from Denmark, tweaks that question: What if some light precipitation could be the thing that wipes out all of humanity?
For Simone (Alba August) and Rasmus (Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen), two teens who escaped a cataclysmic, Scandinavia-wide downpour, the answer means spending the better part of a half-decade inside a secure bunker, away from that unfiltered rain. Like most other elements of “The Rain,” their method of survival seems more complicated than it actually is. The last thing piece of advice their father gives them before heading above to an uncertain world is to…survive. After a safe time...

The end of the world is pretty terrifying, no matter how it happens. In the upcoming Netflix series “The Rain,” the main culprit is a deadly downpour that wipes out most of Scandinavia’s population.
People outrunning killer weather isn’t entirely new in apocalypse stories (just ask Jake Gyllenhaal), but it looks like this show is more concerned with what happens years later, after two children who survived the initial attack venture back out into the world to find companions. Emerging from a bunker they’ve been locked in for half a decade, they eventually found people who had their own way of lasting through the killer precipitation.
After finding a small pack of other survivors, it’s clear that even though the streets and schools and supermarkets are deserted, the danger didn’t end when the deadly virus got swept away. There are guns and gangs and killer...

Netflix has released a trailer for a new film called The Rain, which is a post-apocalyptic thriller about a group of young survivors who band together to try and continue to survive a virus that is carried by the rain. Basically, they have to do everything they can to stay dry. I know the premise sounds kind of silly with a tagline like, "Stay dry, stay alive", but it actually looks really good! It looks like the story will go into some very dark territory. The trailer has definitely sparked my interest. Watch the trailer for yourself and let us know if it sparks yours!

The Guilty is an exhilarating, minimalist thriller that effectively sinks its hooks in, despite its bland, melodramatic title. In the vein of Locke and My Dinner with Andre, it isn’t exactly a one-man show fronted by Jakob Cedergren, but works as well as it does thanks to director Gustav Möller’s taunt editing, voice cast, and sound effects that create a haunting scene halfway through the film without a drop of onscreen blood.
Cedergren plays Asger, a cop placed on administrative duty for reasons that become clear when his supervisor tells him to go home. He of course refuses, continuing to follow a horrific kidnapping in progress, spanning several precincts and districts. Geography, like character, is created out of thin air relying only on a minimal cellphone tower map to orient us–not that it really matters.
